There has been so much talk and emotion about our draft pick situation. This morning I woke up and realised why I am so frustrated with the priority picks etc.

If Carlton were having a fair crack every week and playing with passion then I would be happy. If we finsihed on the bottom with less than 5 wins then I would welcome the picks. I would in a strange way see that we had earned the picks and would have no angst with getting them.

However the Carlton side has not played with consistent passion and is only getting the picks because they haven't played to their ability. Should a side or a person in any walk of life be rewarded for not giving their best.

To me I don't feel comfortable with us getting these picks. I think it is a cop out and it is part of the victim mentality culture of the club. Both club and supporters love playing the victim. Be it the Hamill thing or Elliot or the AFL crucifying us or Lawrie and Karl being idiots. We seem to love to look for excuses for our poor form.

Why don't we encourage the club to look deeper into the culture that has caused our problems. We are IMO a club very low on integrity and as such have very little mental strength. It looks like we are going to get the picks. Lets at least try and give these kids a healthier environment to come into.

You've every reason to be upset. Pagan is being paid an absolute fortune and the best strategy he can devise to get your club out of this predictament is to tank.

I mean why pay over the top for a media acclaimed super coach when literally anyone could guide a club from one thrashing to another.

Carlton performance over the course of this year has been disgraceful and your effort last week is indicative of how bankrupt the culture is at your club.

Given what you've given up in terms of respect in the football community I hope the player you obtain as a result of a priority pick makes it worthwhile. I doubt it will.

You seem to have no idea what you are talking about. Pagan clearly has a 'media repuatation' and has done absolutely nothing in football. Right?

Unfortunately, it is widely said that this years draft is very shallow, the worst in a few years...just our luck !!

As for D.Pagan...

Well, he was praised for getting the most out of the problem kids, especially Fev.
Since then however, he failed to turn Norman around and he seems ready to be cut from the team.
And Fev has gone from having been around, and very much a Pagan man, to be back to his bad old ways (injuries aside) and D.Pagan is hinting he would not say no to trading him.....is all of that a good sign for a "super coach" ?
Also, to be thrashed so many times this season, when we should have built a bit more from last seasons 10 wins is bad, how has this all happened ?
Sure, we are undermanned, but why not bring in more of the kids ? Change the game plan (which was done too late in taking Fev away as the main go to target, I understand Fishers return has allowed this to happen, but still...)
Anyway, people must wonder what a young coach like a Harvey may have done.
Lets hope it all comes right in 2006, sadly though that was said in 2004 seasons end, coming off 10 wins...sigh.
:o

Yes why doesn't he come out and say we'll win the flag, take us to second last and then give him the sack.Couldn't the Hawks have kept Schwab on another year? Since you're a crap bottom 4 side again and copped another pasting today from a quality side.At least you've got more PPs to overlook Griffen and Judd with after your capitulation to the Tigers last week ;) .

Even Carlton managed to beat Richmond in the last month.

Hi Guys,

Would love to hear some more opinions about where we are at rather than worrying about any comparison to Hawthorn. Whether they are in trouble or not doesn't worry me but Carlton does.

I really believe we have big issues and that it goes way deeper than just our list.

Being up by 20 points with ten minutes to go doesn't sound like the most foolproof way of tanking. However, allowing yourself to be beaten by 99 points by the side that is positioned 13th is an indication of a side that is not to concerned by the result ie. tanking.

Here is the difference between the two clubs Hawthorn has not won a wooden spoon for over 40 years, and that was despite having clearly the worst team last season. Richmond like Carlton believe tanking is a legitimate tactic and that is a sad indictment of your club.

I hope you enjoy your wooden spoon. At the rate your accumulating spoons you might need to start renovating your trophy cabinet.

Our trophy cabinet will always be bigger than your's and if you think having a list of inexperienced kids is going to keep you out of spoon calculation you're deluded. You were thrashed by 117 points by the Power at home with Mitchell, Bateman, etc in the team when we drew there and aren't a team that's had injuries all year. What a difference 2 points make from being bottom and a talented side on the up! The Hawks broke the record for possessions per goal yesterday. :) :p !

NO team tanks, but Carlton could just as easily say that we were tanking.
Neither team is good enough at this stage, but both teams play to their capacity.
Carlton, like Hawthorn, will be back. Both clubs are too proud to just accept and embrace their current situations.

you all teasing each others fans ur like a bunch of little kids. every team has ******** years and whats teasing the fans gonna do? freo were ********** useless only 4 years ago winning 2 games for the year, and after there young kpp's matured like mcpharlin and pav are now one of the best key forward lines in the afl. so y dont both teams get over this season look towards the draft and hope for better luck next season.. i cant wait to see ellis or murphy or whichever little ********s join the team.. and i hope hawks get better aswell.. but not collingwood they smell

nobody really cares how many spoons a club has won, its all about premierships

finishing 16th, 15th or 9th is all the same= not good enough to play finals and can't win a premiership from there

if carlton and richmond are 'tanking' as you believe then that is a sad situation hawthorn are in. a team playing to the best of their ability and only being 1/2 a game better than a team 'tanking'

BTW (i will stoop to your level and pretend I am a 8 yo again) Carlton won a premiership in 95, hawtorns last won a premiership in 1991..... so there!!!!! :D
