It's apparent we have a slow undersized forwardline.... we need John Butcher and a couple speedy indigenous forwards. To do this we tank and trade Tuck as his old. Then in the 2010 draft get a few elite young mids to finish off the list deficiencies.

This will create a forward line of say
FF: Morton, Butcher, Indigenous/Nahas
HF: Graham/Vickery, Riewoldt, Indigenous

Graham and Vickery rotate for rests up forward, and we have a 3-way multipronged tall order with the indigenous crumbers at their feet. Morton will provide the medium tall option.... you know it's the best option.

Next in the 2010 draft we should get an elite mid and trade Foley and Moore for more picks as they are overrated skilless hacks (Rance to Replace Moore. This will round off the list problems and give us a tilt for finals.

Gee you make it all sound so simple! maybe u should take Terrys job..
Firstly im not a fan of tanking and not going to support it, to suppposebly rebuild a list that everyone thought would make finals

Your forward line looks good but if you exclude morton and riewoldt, they barely have 10 games between them , so i dont think we can really judge them yet, also i think Hughes is a bit stiff and if he gets his act together can be crucial to our future

Trading Foley and Moore is ridicioulous , they are in the leadership group and critical to the success of the side

Hindsight is a beatiful thing and maybe we can look back on this in a few years and say you were correct, but for now i dont like your chances

The club isn't going to recruit based on race. You see that would be racist....

With our top pick we go for best available, be that Butcher, Scully, whoever.

Not as ridiculous as it seems. I'd be up for it, if it means getting early picks in the last true draft. We need to draft our way out of this mess.

Do they serve decent meals at the asylum???????????????

I don't think Foley and Moore would be trade options, we need them too much, but I think some players with currency include Thursfield, Edwards and Tambling. I'd still try and trade Tuck, McMahon, Pattison, Hughes for whatever we can get I don't care if they are 5th rounders.

Just read the article on the Hun site saying this years draft is the weakest in a decade. Only 2 standouts in Scully and Butcher. Am I right in saying that if Melbourne win less than 4 they get the first 2 picks anyway. Bad year for any team to finish down low.

Not quite. If they win less than 4 they get the number 1 pick. The rest is determined on ladder position. So if we win 2 games and they win 3 it would go:

#1 Melbourne
#2 Richmond
#3 Melbourne

So either we cop a wooden spoon or miss out on out on both.

If West Coast only managed 4 again as well as Melbourne we are shagged in that regards.

* Just for the record I don't want to go down the tanking route.

The worst part of this is in a typicla Richmond manner we will win another 6-10 games this year which we sit us about 9th-12th on the ladder by years end, just low enough not to be able to pick up a superstar

should have drafted ziebell over vickery last year.

Here we go, i was waiting for some idiot to post something like this ...

Just like west coast should of drafted 7-8 players before they drafted Natanui

There is so many examples of this like Palmer last year, in 3 years time Palmer wont even be in the top 10 of that draft.

When we drafted Vickery we didn't expect him to walk straight into our team and make a massive impact, we drafted him as a ruckman and people at Richmond said he will take a couple of years to develop properly... nearly everyone had him as a top 5 pick, we got very lucky that he fell to us. Judge the kid in three years time because atm your just making yourself look like a moron.

Yup bravo kano wins flawless victory.
I dont care what happens as long as we win a flag and I CANT SEE it happening without the addition of a monster elite KP player in the likes of Butcher to accompany Reiwoldt and one more elite midfielder in the likes of lids and cotch.

Bit harsh kaino. Some people, myself included, thought we should have drafted Ziebell ahead of Vickery, even at the time. We could have drafted a ruckman later on and rookied two or something, but to have a go at someone without knowing their motifs is harsh. I do admit however, he probably was basing that opinion on Ziebell's first year form.

i actually laughed at this

yeah we dont need a potentially elite ruckman...

Vickery hasnt played a game yet and u want him gone hahaha

no actaually i had the same opinion before we drafted vickery and had the opinion that we should always get a midfielder unless you finish with pick 1 or 2 and there is a watts/kreuzer. im not writing vickery off at all, i have seen him play all of about 5 times in the nab game, vfl, and in his younger days once, just dont like taking risks with these type of blokes when its not as if we have a surplus of quality midfielders.

id be looking to trade one of moore/thursfield/rance/post in the future to a team desperate for backmen for a good pick.

all 4 of these guys will be/are quality players and with mcguane aswell we will have a surplus of backmen.

yep, lets trade players that have proven they can play good footy for late first round draft picks at best, which could turn out to be duds.

did not like the idea at all of drafting vickery with our 1st round pick, was wanting ziebel, rich, hurley,or harteltt and im liking the look of all thoes eplayers so far.
vickey has done well get into coburg seniors from the resies tho:thumbsu:
but i didnt like last weeks game.

Given the perilous state of our talls Vickery was the right choice. Not much if anything at all separated Vickery and Ziebell quality wise. Sheesh we should be looking at what went wrong with the 2004 and 2005 drafts not the 2008 one. The greatest mistake we have made draft wise is not taking enough picks, not what players we picked.

Mate you're on another planet. Butcher will go pick 1/2. Melbourne will win under 4 games and pick Scully (best mid) and Butcher (best kp forward).

We will try and eek out as many wins as possible. Finish between 13th and 9th and therefore will not be able to draft Butcher.

As for tradiing Tuck for something of value - this will not happen in the current climate. He is a third rounder at best. Not because he can't play but because with the GC and West Sydney coming in clubs will see it as negligent to not get there hands on as much youth as possible going into years of lean drafts.

That's what makes our drafting of late even more astounding. 3 18 year olds, two 20yo's, a 22yo and a 30yo. How we traded a third rounder for a guy who is not best 22 in this climate is beyond me.

On to the topic of draft targets. I hope we take a key forward with our first rounder. If we can get a pick in the top 6 there should be a decent one.
