If our biggest requirement to play the modern game is speedy midfielders then surely Banfield should be picked before Williams. Is Williams capable of filling that requirement. Which of the two would be ready to play in 2026 ?
It's not about who we pick first lmao. It's about matching a bid on them, and currently Williams is more likely to attract a bid and earlier than Banfield. Ideally neither are bid on and we can add both as rookies.

According to the people who do this for a living, th clear view is yes he is worth a top two pick (in the open pool).
The ones doing it for a living are the club recruiters, I'm not sure some journo puts in the hours going to games, watching tape and interviewing players and coaches to the extent of the recruiters. There would be BF posters that put more hours into the players.

Seems to be a bit of: Eagles have the first two picks + we (the Vic media) see Duursma and CDT as the best two prospects = Eagles love Duursma and CDT and will draft them. Just lazy analysis.

I hope there is more to it from our recruiter POV but just would be interesting to see it discussed on one of of the 73 weekly panel shows that the AFL do.

Yeah but what about Jezza Cameron All Australian captain mind you FWOOOF!

Listening to Clarke's interview on SEN with Gossage he did say they had hoped to bring another mature age midfielder (beyond Dev), but it did not happen. Clearly, they recognise midfield as a focus area for improvement. Mini throughout the past year mentioned getting better at the contest etc.

Whilst Twomey after the trade period finished in one of his interviews was fairly confident in Duursma being in pick 1 consideration though he was not so certain to lock in CDT as a guaranteed number 2 saying there is a group of players still to be consider. Mentioned a few academy players and that Sharp had a outstanding last 3 years.

Clarke has been saying consistently the club has to finalise its board and with Twomey said Duursma and CDT are amongst a group of 6.

If that gives a little insight that WCE view the top band of 6 players, and it seems like most we have Duursma at the top of that 6. I speculate Uwland, Patterson, Annable, CDT and Sharp are the other players in consideration with pick 2 and the order currently being settled.

I think we take Duursma at 1
Put a bid on at least one of the acadmey prospects with 2 - I hope we bid on all 3
Then take Sharp.

Sharp has been successful at all levels he has faced and is a leader. I think that is a big factor that the media miss and something with our young list we need more of.

What's the timeline with signing Dev and some of the other state-level players (Blamries, Berry, Schoenberg) who we were considering dumpster diving for?

You all need to go back and watch Benji Van Rooyen ruck in the last three weeks of the Colts Finals to see what an actual good junior ruck can do at stoppages.
You love those Claremont Colts players ;)

Benji looked great throughout that whole finals series, how tall is he? If he hits the magical 203+ mark combined with his agility, WC need to get him.

Charlie grew throughout that series and I think he'll be a great get for WC as a late pick/rookie selection - still a litlle worried about his ball use/decision making.

I'll double down on Harper, think he will be a seriously good AFL player and comfortably better than his brother. In that first final loss, Claremont looked better when he was in the midfield.

Then they'll have to throw in some more assets, you don't get pick 1 in a "fair deal"
Yes...if teams are in a position to pick players over quantity of talent... I see Essendon and the Eagles in a similar position where they need as much top level talent over any particular player.

if roles were reversed i can guarantee that pick 2 would not generate that type of interest from the Eagles.. it's not realistic

I am on board for a JTS campaign.

We need a top flight meat & potatoes guy and he looks to have that in spades.

CDT a real risk to get caught in no-mans land in a rebuilding side and struggle to find a niche.

Bid Gold Coast NGA 1
Bid Gold Coast NGA 2
Either bid Brisbane NGA here or draft Duursma
Either bid Brisbane NGA here or draft CDT/Sharp (my preference is Sharp or whoever is rated the best mid in the open draft)

Best available at 13 (or whatever it ends up as)

Use rest of draft picks to match bids on Banfield and the NGA boys

Rookie Cripps, Barnett and Dev

Win draft week

If we stuff up a draft where we hold picks 1 and 2 plus a third pick in the first round, the club should fold.

I know direct comparisons can never be drawn but is Sharp the Daniel Rich of this draft class? An underage dominator due to being a manchild and being able to bully opponents in close?

Could do worse than plucking Rich earlier in his draft and I remember there was some rating him much higher in the weeks leading up to it before he went at 7.

Side note: the streets will never forget Tom Swift

Hopefully Duursma is not the Jack Watts of this draft class 😬

Great draft for the Eagles apart from pick 20. Rich was a fantastic kick.

Agreed - if you look at who we DIDN’T take in this one it was great selection by us with the picks we had. This was the year I first took real interest in the draft as was obsessed with us picking up Naitanui and was hoping Melbourne weren’t going to spoil the party

Samesies.

Although remember hoping that there was some way we were able to get Rich as well somehow. He was hyped up that year as well.

Very hyped - and like Sharp had the underage runs on the board. Was viewed as the best mid coming in. Easily surpassing the more recent Curtin vibes by a long way. Was genuinely seen as a 2-4 pick in the lead up

There was a huge thread basically dedicated to NN v Rich

There were alot of arguments thar NN isn't a footballer and that we need to take the mid as we desperately need mids

From memory

Interesting how most of that top 20 finished up playing several years ago, some over a decade, yet Sidebottom keeps on going! Rich probably top 5 in that list!
