Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft

Just heard a whisper that Sharp has told the WCE if they draft him he will go home after 3 years.
This comes from an opposition club, so maybe trying to throw a rock in the pond.
Just seems against everything we have heard from Sharp and those in SA who now him better than us!!
Not sure I would place much credit in the rumour, but has anyone got any better intel on if this is remotely true??
Also thinks we are taking CDT with pick 2!!
Not posted for melts but just interested in any intel??
pantskyle is this true?

Did we also nominate Jack Caton & Darcy Montgomery as NGA's?

If we didn't and all of the other guys get picked up in the main draft could we still grab one of them as we would have a spot open with Livingston gone?

No.

If Melbourne do not take a KPF with one of their top 2 picks, they are as bad as us and drafting HBFs.
Its why I dont subscribe to the "draft best available instead of for needs" argument. Its all well and good drafting the best HBF in the game, but when you've done the same thing for the last 5+ years you just end up with a list of HBFs.

We should be drafting for best available in the positions we need.

Never understood the threat TBH.

Play badly until your contract is up = either no other club will want you and you'll have to risk the draft again, or you handicap your earning potential by being picked up for peanuts by another club.

Play well until your contract is up = your initial club gets to trade you for a player or equal or greater value.

By all means, if you wanna go home after 3 years then go. Your attitude is either going to only hurt yourself, or you act as a springboard for the club you're leaving.

There's a reason they went that low.

Sometimes it comes off, but most of the players drafted in that range prove to not be cut out for AFL level. There's a huge amount of luck involved once you get into the latter stages of a draft.

Of course, I could also be missing a joke here.

Hamish Brayshaw isn't cut out for AFL either - as slow as a stunned mule! Terrible choice back then.

We must be pretty confident one (or both) will not attract bids.

And TBF not too many of the expert rankings have them in the top 50 - and most expect 45-55 picks this year (obviously a very

Everyone keeps ignoring Duursma as help for Harley.

We aren’t taking him at #1 due to hopes he only reaches his floor (tall winger), we are absolutely expecting him to be a balanced or inside leaning mid in time (dream is Bont style).

I’m not saying Sharp shouldn’t also be very high on our list, but Duursma does address both the ability deficiency and midfield deficiency we have on our list
sorry i was looking at it as our second pick where ever that’s comes . most have already booked in duursma at pick 1

Twomey doesn't venture beyond pick 30 for a reason, and his top 30 is drafted by intel from clubs. Beyond him there nobody i would consider an expert. Not SEN, ESPN or anyone else.

People were also melting over Denver Grainger-Barras...

The reality is that drafting is still (and always will be) an inexact science as your form at 17 doesn't always translate to being an AFL level player a few years later. It's getting better, and you of course prefer having the first pick than the tenth or the sixtieth, but you can never be sure.

Post on the tigers board, no idea if legitimate but other posters seem to think his mail is ok.

We are very interested in a crop of Indigenous boys. We sent the KGI team to WA a couple of months ago to meet and spend time with them and we love a kid called Pickett. I expect he will be taken with whatever pick 38 ends up being. We are certain to use that pick on an Indigenous kid and will probably bid on some of the west coast academy players here if they haven’t been selected yet but Pickett is the kid we want.

The club loved what we did bringing players that had played together in last year and particularly the bond it has created amongst the kids at the club.

The plan is replicate that again this year but this time it will be with a batch of boys from SA.

Our hope is that WC take Dursma and CDT or Robey because we will be taking Sharp and Cumming at 3 & 4. We will take Sharp of the board with pick 3 immediately and then try to turn pick 4 into pick 5 with a trade with Essendon for them to take either CDT or Robey whoever the eagles don’t take. Our aim is to get a future 2nd and Essendons pick to help with our academy stuff next year.

To be honest if I were Richmond this is exactly what I would hope for and do.
Someone in their team would be VERY annoyed if they read their leaked grand plan on BF

I would be surprised if Banfield gets a bid being a father son and a late pick.
Robey plays a few finals and is a bolter even tho not the medallist . Banfield plays a blinder finals series in WA . Nothing, crickets .

Agreed. Duursma will come good after a couple of years in the system, but will likely struggle on the gimp wing and be rotated in and out of the side in his early career. Expecting him to become the new whipping boy as people gnash their teeth for the next 2-3 years over taking him at 1.

Would be devo if we took CDT at 2 then Tigers took both Sharp and Cumming at 3 and 4. I would consider that an absolute kick in the nuts on draft night when we've been crying out for exactly those types of players for literal years.
Its not a gimp wing anymore. Maric and Dewar in particular both had some very good games on a wing. Duursma should be better than those guys

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Latrelle Pickett, who I assume they are talking about, is from SA. He might have been here to see family if they are connecting KGI coming to WA and wanting Pickett. If they want him I don't think they will piss fart around by bidding on one of our NGA players when we have a pick 3 spots later. There is always the chance we choose not to match and then Pickett goes before their next pick at 81 or they have to use draft assets to trade back in to get him.
If I was Essendon I would just take whoever is left out of Robey/CDT/Cumming at 5 and not trade a future 2nd.

Good, draft him anyway! See if he goes home after 3 years, if he does, worth a good pick or trade.
If true, since when does a young draftee start threatening an interested club, or show disinterest in going there? Has that happened before? Most players are happy to be selected into the AFL full stop. Would set a new precedent shirley?

Sheezel, Bailey Smith, Perkins off the top of my head in recent years.
