Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft

We've signed a former AFL listed player to our historically bad WAFL team.
Even if he wasn't very good at AFL level how on Earth can that be anything but good news?
Again, even if he only kicks a goal a game at worst, I imagine that would make him 1st or 2nd in our WAFL goal kicking based on this year (without checking the stats).
A goal a game would have won our goalkicking award last year, yes.

Our top three goal kickers last year were Coen Livingstone (17), Petch (15) and then top up player Josh Burke tied with Loch Rawlinson for third with 11 goals.

It’s a ridiculous argument to be having, and this is from someone who thinks Ash Johnson is one of the all time dud AFL forwards who only got the rope he did because of the Pies media.

At a state league level it’s a ****ing coup that he’ll play for us next year.

No one has ever had to slide back a top pick as far as I know where a points deficit is not enough to fall under the points of the next pick in line.
At the 2019 draft, Carlton bid on Fremantles NGA prospect, Liam Henry at pick 9. Freo matched.
IIRC, this meant their 2020 pick was deficit affected, pick 11 out to pick 14.

Carlton launched a shock play at pick No.9 for the mercurial Henry, who was tipped to attract a bid about No.18, according to AFL.com.au draft guru Callum Twomey.

Fremantle are carrying over a 264.9 point deficit from 2019 (Liam Henry, Next Generation Academy selection #9), moving their default first round pick.

Greater Western Sydney are carrying over a 254.2 point deficit from 2019 (Tom Green, Academy selection #10), moving their default second round pick.

Don't know if the above clarifies or complicates the questions posted of what round the deficit goes to (round player taken was the answer) but this quote shows Freo copped a 1st round deficit for a 1st round match, yet GWS matching pick 10 for Green get movement in the second round.

Where/how reliable?
There was a report maybe a month ago that WC had put a fair bit of work into Pickett, not sure of the source and dont quote me but I think it was Cavanagh from Code sports.
Then again recently SMH Mark McGowan suggested WC are very keen on Pickett, don't know the intel but someone put up the SMH article a few days ago that did a phantom draft and if I rememeber correctly and WC were agian linked to WC with 1 of their picks.
There was also a SA article I read recently that mentioned the Pickett WC link.
I would say there is smoke but not sure if it's fire??

Dropped top 2/3 a couple of times to skipped over Vic talent (Sheezel/Warsaw or Jagga/Smillie/Langford) for later WA talent (Ginbey or Allen). Definitely WA centric there.
I would call unusual circumstances in both of those cases. And as of this moment I still think that I'd take Ginbey and Hewett over Sheezel.

And turning pick three into a B&F winner plus Bo Allan will look a genius or dunce move depending on what Bo becomes.

Consider me triggered Paran!

WC could never have drafted Sheezel.
We could have.

We didn't for very good reasons, but we could have.

Try this one. Includes trades, has West Coast splitting 2, also trading for Carltons 9 and taking:
1. Duursma
5. Cumming (Sharp goes next pick)
9. Dovaston
15. Shubert (Gained as part of Pick 2 split)

Can't see us drafting more than 3 along with matching bids.

North had 1, were taking Sheezel.

Eagles almost certainly would have taken Cadman at 2.

Big part of the reason we split was that Nth were quite committed to moving 1 to GWS as they knew GWS would take Cadman instead of the massive flight risk in Sheezel. And Eagles would steer clear also.

Could Nth and GWS traded without us and then theoretically we take Sheezel - maybe, but we were clearly keen to get involved (taking somewhat unders) so we were never taking Sheezel.

Anyone else a little bamboozled by the talk of tylah williams as late first round - second round prospect .

In 8 colt games he kicked 4 goals (as a 17 year old he average a goal a game)
1 in 2 league appearances
And 3 at u18 champs

To me he screams rookie prospect.

I wouldn’t match a ND bid with the prospect of missing out on Evans or Banfield. They are better prospects imo.

I think his stocks raised significantly after his impressive combine.

I’d like him on our list, but wouldn’t match personally if he was bid on in the first round.

Pre any pick swaps a lot of mock drafts had North taking Cadman at 1 and us taking Wardlaw over Sheezel at 2.
Even more had North taking Wardlaw at 1 and us taking Cadman at 2. Everyone knew that even if Sheezel was there and we could have had him we weren't going to take him.
He'd played every card short of refusing to play for us and had made it quite clear that he would be a malcontent and disruptive influence who would bail at opportunity #1.
So everyone knew we'd pass which weakened our hand.

North actually took Sheezel first which suggests far more strongly than any mock that they rated Sheezel higher than Wardlaw

They wouldn't have traded 1 if they wanted Cadman
