Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft

Because people have convinced themselves this draft's shit as well as too many people being obsessed with Sharp and think Duursma's Cale Moreton 2.0, even though he's absolutely nothing like him.
Duursma will likely be a good player at AFL level but he's got a way to go to be an elite inside mid, which is why he's being rated so highly.

Maybe. I'd still take Jagga Smith and Sam Draper ahead of Duursma, though I would have taken Duursma ahead of O'Sullivan. Lalor has looked pretty good so far so I'd be happy with him ahead of Duursma as well though I didn't rate him that high at the time.

A month ago Dylan, one of the hosts on True Footy who is a massive nerd when it comes to the draft said Duursma would've been drafted somewhere after Harvey Langford if he was in last years draft, as how 'weak' this years draft is.

This thing isn't an exact science, and neither of these opinions are right or wrong, but when I watched that ESPN draft thing yesterday and Jasper said Duursma would've gone number 1 last year I was like huh? 🤨

Just needs to put on size. He also doesn't need to be an inside mid, he'll be a balanced mid.

He won't be in the side to do the grunt work.

And a number of people on this board would take Sharp at 1/2, despite next to nobody rating him that highly.

Grlj was also a certainty to go to Richmond just a week ago, now looks like he'll miss the top 10 entirely.

People value what they value and will put a player that matches those values on a pedestal and be mostly blind to their faults.

Duursma and Sharp appear to have the highest floors of the top 10. Grlj is an interesting one. As much as people question Sharp's ceiling, I don't know that Grlj's ceiling will be any or much better than Sharp's and likely won't be better than Cumming, Taylor, Farrow, etc.

Yeah but he runs fast.

Yeah thought Lalor was great this year. Hopefully he gets a better run with his hammies in 26.

Cal saying Duursma and CDT now hot favourites to head to West Coast.

Talks with Carlton for pick 9 are on going but he’s not sure it gets done…..

Essendon, Crows and Pies all have interest in pick 9.
Also said he can't see Farrow making it to our pick 13. Should make a few here happy...

Crows are chasing 9 in the hope to get sharp too. Edit, they have another target if sharps gone, dovaston.

Both make sense. Their midfield needs more substance and Dovaston would add another string across the forward half.

Listened to the ESPN draft show throughout yesterday. I think its Japser Chellapah who really talks up Duursma. Says he reckons he'd go pick 1 including last years crop

Not sure we're excited enough about Duursma on here tbh

This is the year more than most, you want to hold pick 1.

Happy days.

If we can get pick 9 off Carlton I can see a scenario where we get Sharp there. If Essendon don't pick him I think he should get to 9 as I don't think the Dees will draft him. The below would be my best case scenario - but I still think Essendon draft Sharp.

1 - Willem Duursma - WCE
2 - Zeke Uwland - GC (bid matched)
3 - Dylan Patterson - GC (bid matched)
4 - Cooper Duff-Tytler - WCE
5 - Daniel Annable - BRIS (bid matched)
6 - Sullivan Robey - RICH
7 - Xavier Taylor - RICH
8 - Harry Dean - CARL (bid matched)
9 - Sam Cumming - ESS
10 - Jacob Farrow - ESS
11 - Sam Grlj - MELB
12 - Aidan Schubert - MELB
13 - Dyson Sharp - WCE

Cal said both WA have shown interest in Sweid.

Bombers haven’t made an offer for our picks 1 or 2 and thinks the ability to trade for them is all but gone

Sounds like Dees are looking at mids but don’t think they go another slower mid like Sharp.

Interesting that we we're only linked to Addinsall after picks 1 & 2. If the bids went as expected, would GCS match a bid for him at 13?

So it seems to be a choice between a slider like Sharp or Grlj, Farrow, Dovaston or Addinsall.

In Cal Novemeber form guide he has FOS and Harvey Langford effectively 2 and 3. Lalor at 6. Then a week later 3 days before draft Lalor was shifted to 1

Everybody needs to calm down about his upcomong November form guide. Especially happy clappers that are clapping at whatever the club picks.

It's rather dissapointing that it might be unknown who we are picking.

**** you wce I won't he tuning in to draft day. I dont like the tide of where this is all going. The club is in continual shambles. You ruined a transformative moment for the club.

4 clubs hold the top 8 picks. Pretty easy for him to have a very good idea of who's going where.

Hate to break it to you but unless Sharp gets past Essendon, he's very unlikely to be an Eagle.

I don't get the Jagga Smith hype. Bloke is built like a twig and his body failed in his first pre-season. He's up against it to have a successful career.

What does he project to at best? A heavily outside high accumulator? Is that worth pick 3 in a strong draft? Duursma should at least be able to win his own ball.
