Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft

Getting NicNat in as the ruck coach with CDT being drafted makes a load of sense.

A coach who had very low endurance but a massive leap coaching CDT with elite speed and endurance but poor ruck craft.

I am believing we are taking CDT and only hope we go for a mid at 13
I think you are making out that Nic was a one trick pony which was simply not true. Apart from his centre circle work where he was just about the best I've seen, he was also effective at boundary throw ins where his leap wasn't really a factor. He was also a contested ball beast, and very quick with a 20m sprint time of 2.85 seconds. Yes, he did lack some endurance but he was an impact player and was never gonna be a Dean Cox type

Mate if you’re 35+ that’s considered a decent return
Nah i'm 27

So it looks like Schubert is the slider according to Cal and will be available at our open draft pick 13. I'd prefer him and Robey (or Cumming) as opposed to CDT and someone else from that tier (don't see Sharp sliding that far, possibly if trade into Carlton's pick).

Says here that Beau is dual footed, but needs to be coached to use his opposite foot and just slow down and take a kick every now and then rather than dish off a handball.

If he can be coached to do that, we'll have a bloody decent midfield prospect on our hands (should we take him).

Dare I say it, reading his profile he sounds like he could be a Priddis who is better on the spread. I really like this kid.

Reads like Priddium.

Is there a world where we pick Dovaston at 13 and then let Williams go through to the keeper?

Pick up Rodriguez or just Banfield and Evans later

I'm not convinced we take Williams at all yet. Lock in Koby & Charlie though
Yeah, I'd be incredibly surprised if we don't pick up the latter 2.

We have a bunch of small forwards coming in via NGA over the next 2 years, so can afford to let one go by.

Not so much midfielders and Evans would probably be the best of our NGA kids, if not for injury this year.

I see Evans as more of a fwd/mid (like a Humphries) to Harley's mid/fwd. If Evans hits his ceiling, those two will be a headache for the oppo in years to come.

We're not going to be short on midfield options this year. Plenty to trial through there

I still take duursma and robey, especially with archer reid bulking up for ruck now. our interest in adinsall is interesting at 13.

I don't get the Jagga Smith hype. Bloke is built like a twig and his body failed in his first pre-season. He's up against it to have a successful career.

What does he project to at best? A heavily outside high accumulator? Is that worth pick 3 in a strong draft? Duursma should at least be able to win his own ball.
Jagga was one of the best extractors of the footy you’ll ever see in juniors, he’s not an outside accumulator. He’s built like a starved praying mantis but still reads the taps, reads the ball, makes good decisions, gets the ball to the outside and then provides a second option.

Would have taken Ashcroft, FOS, Jagga, Draper, Lalor then Langford in that order and all of them apart from Langford ahead of Duursma.

Jagga’s ceiling is going to be limited by his body transformation. If it’s Fyfe or O’Meara he is easily AA quality.

NHH strikes me as a bit of a temu Sheezel - that isn’t meant to be an insult and is probably inaccurate anyway but just see some similarities

Think he’s in the next group just behind where our third pick lands along with the likes of Phillipou, Barker, O Taylor and Marsh

Ideally, we don’t have to choose from that group
I see a bit a LeCras in him - class medium forqard that can be a mid. Not super athletic but has that poise and arrogance.

Finn O’Sullivan and Sid Draper over Willem Duursma 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Our draft position and best players available has a bit of an Adelaide about it through its rebuild. Never in a spot where a midfielder is obvious choice and would have to be a stretch. They had to trade top liners in.

But at least we start with Harley. So bodes well.

Sharp wont last till 9 imo.

Essendon or Melbourne will jump at him.
Who do we need most in our team. CDT or Sharp ? We need to pick up Sharp and 2 more hard at it contested midfielders.
We've got enough tall forwards at the moment and a couple of those can be part time ruck men.
We also have enough small forwards as well.
