List Mgmt. Draft Watch 2015

Would the club go for the two Mackey brothers given their size, thoughts?

I suggested this in the Draft Watch thread ages ago. IMO it makes sense if we wanted Harry that bad with Ben improving every game. However, if a couple of others drop as expected that is the route we will go rather than the twin towers.:)

I'm extremely hopeful Carlton are looking to build a spine this year and take McKay at 8.

It will take him 5 years to show anything and I don't want us wasting pick 9 on a 5 year prospect to replace Jenkins.

We should be concentrating all our efforts on peaking in 2-3 years when Walker, Sloane, Talia etc are in their prime. We need to be focusing our resources on that reality so we have the best chance at premiership success in that window. Draft this year for guys with class who can play next year or 2017 at the latest. Next year move heaven and earth to trade in a ready made gun mid.

Put our eggs in the premiership basket with this group. Fukk looking 5 years out with our first pick. We're not in rebuild mode we should be looking to challenge

A perusal of the 2015 U18's Championships Stats which pits all the best young players from each state against each other bar a couple that were unable to strut their stuff through injury may surprise some with the players "popularly" being touted and also some others the other way that don't seem for whatever reason to be so "popular". Guarantee some will be surprised.

Clearly shows Partington, Snelling and Bonner in that order where our standouts

Reckon this is pretty spot on.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Essendon take Francis (leaving Melbourne to pick up Curnow), St Kilda take Balic and Hawthorn get Collins.
Dont be surprised if 1 and 2 change around agree with 3, think Carlton need a gun forward more than a defender.

Lots and lots of speculation on who we'll get at 9, seems a pretty clear choice between H Mckay / Francis / Milera / Oliver.

How about some 13 banter? I think that'll be a much wider range of potential players. Obviously if any of the four above drop (e.g. Milera due to potential flight risk) we'll pick them up, but if not, I think it will be between:

Burton: Injury very worrisome; have faith in the medico's to give us the clearest idea of how it should go though.
Tucker: I like his fire, had a poor season compared to expectations but could be due limited preseason with ankle injury.
Mathieson: Accumulator but don't rate his athleticism / ability to get away a clean possession.
Hibberd: Sounds like he has a lot of ability but again strong injury history worries me.
Bonner: Fills a spot I don't think we need.
Balic: Doesn't sound terrible, classy player but perhaps question marks about his contested ball ability.
Collins: Man who is supposedly 17, would help out the defence but his lack of athleticism / ground ball ability could hurt.
Ah Chee: Just not a type of player we need with cameron/betts running around.
Ben Mckay: Definitely not sold on him here, 13 is paying overs. I think we'd be better off grabbing a developing tall in next year's draft and going best available in this one.

Of these, I'm personally not sold on any. I also don't claim to have seen any of these kids with my own eyes, just going from what I can remember reading in different places! Personally leaning towards Balic/Tucker at the moment.

Thoughts? Could someone like Partington bolt up to our pick?

LOL. You're seriously getting angry over a random poster's thoughts about who 'a sports club you follow' should select in the draft?

People just aren't using their eyes...

Gee, if Melbourne DO take Curnow - which is getting a bit of buzz - that throws the whole draft around.

Surely it's then Parish and Weidemann?

I like tucker at 13 if he is available. I like that he's lived out of home for a year, I like that he studied opposition tapes as a part of work. He strikes me as a really solid down to earth kid.

For me, If we walked away with Francis and Tucker I would be a happy boy.

If that happens, and it won't happen, there would be a very much deserved meltdown.

I don't mind McKay but he's no lock to be a star. Disposal's still messy and doesn't look to be ultra competitive. Has good traits but how many times have we seen the quick agile big guy fail in the past 10 years. Francis will dominate. Is top 3 talent and leadership material. It's a no brainer.
Your argument sounds exactly like the argument used in Ebert vs Dangerfield debate back in the day. Overlooking a consensus top 10 pick predicted to go 7th who was All-Australian 2 years in a row, captain (or was it vice captain) of the SA U18 team, inside midfield gun who drew comparisons to Scott Thompson for a vic country kid from Moggs Creek who was used as a tagger in the U18s championships did not average double figure possesions and was not even going to come over straight away. On top of that he was predicted to go in the 20s leading into the draft.

Bottom line, if AFC pick anyone over Francis at 9, then I back them in as they would know a lot more than average Big Footy poster. Their track record with 1st round picks in recent years has been outstanding. They know what they are doing. No doubt about it!

You're probably right, but this is the same club that gave DMac a 4 year deal. Different department I know but can't seem to get that out of my head when needing to trust them to make the right calls.

Gives us a much better chance of getting Francis if melbourne take Curnow instead of Parish.

Fantastic reasoning to draft a player ......BTW can he play football at all ?

If Tucker, Mathieson, Balic (gee talking mediocrity here) .......I'd take Bonner or Burton

Haven't seen enough of Ben Mackay to know whether he's too much of a stretch at 13 ......so no idea on him

Not keen on McKay if it'll take him years to make the grade. Not playing regular senior footy these days is a free ticket for "I want to go home for better opportunities".
Really though most talls are 3 years ......look how many years Hawkins, who was a superstar in U18, took to make it ....well into his 4th year

Not sure why this is a surprise to anyone ......that said if you're going to get a good one you have to take the cream of the crop, which Harry is, ......there's no shortcuts

Lever's year was amazing .....highly unusual ....and says everything about the type of star player we got

He'll let's now get the CHF
