If Francis slides to 9 and we get him, is he a chance of playing a few games next season?
I think he would definitely be able to slot in across half back as that intercept marking, elite kicking, attacking (quarter back style) play maker.

FB Brown Talia Lever
HB Smith Hartigan Francis
(Laird)

That would be such a well rounded back 7. Smith, Laird, Francis, Lever would all be capable of playing as a loose man depending on match ups.

Francis alongside Hartigan is a great support in the air. He'd provide intercept marks and 3rd man up spoils. Lever would do the same thing but playing deeper.

Smith is AA running half back. Smith (already is) and Francis could be 2 elite ball users out of defense.

Francis would also be able to swing forward as a leading/marking forward if one of Tex/Jenkins/Lynch got injured during a game and we'd still have Talia/Hartigan/Lever left untouched in defense.

If we got an injury to Talia/Hartigan/Lever during a game, Francis steps up to fill one of those positions.

Eventually he could also have short bursts into the midfield as a big body to give one of the primary mids a rest or to just try something different mid-game.

Francis provides so much flexibility without making us too top heavy imo because he is also good at ground level and has elite skills & decision making.

Plus, critically, Francis could also play on those medium sized resting mids/forwards who mark well overhead and are good one on one who we have always had trouble with (ie D.Menzel, Ziebell, D.Martin, Fyfe). Now Francis might be able to play on all those types or at least not immediately, but we always struggle with these types. Unfortunately, Hendo should be able to but he's weak as p*ss and Smith is too attacking to shut them down. He would be the perfect match up for Stringer (& Burton if he doesn't come to us) eventually.

Adelaide ...

I think we may be disappointed.
Oliver as a contested beast to hopefully replace Danger, and then maybe a Hibberd as a balanced mid/HBFer. Take a tall in 2016.

The rankings aren't done by the recruiters though, players shooting up the rankings is more due to journalists finding out who recruiters are keen on. They find out recruiter from 'team with a top 10 pick' is keen on Pdub so suddenly Pdub is shooting into the top 10, when recruiters have considered Pdub a top 10 pick for 18months.

Do you think Pdub will be there at our first pick though? I think the bombers or blues will pounce. Kid looks a jet.

Wayne's-World I would be interested to see some power rankings from you re: how you would draft our players based on needs and talent. Our opinions seem to differ, I just want to see how much :p
Sth Australian Players or total draft players ......by talent or talent/needs?

Alright folks we need to start getting creative here in order to make sure our SA boys stay in Adelaide. We require a well orchestrated campaign to pull it off. I suggest we start with the following:

1. Photoshop Francis' face over Mitch Robinson's in that infamous big day out pic.
2. Leak some info onto 4chan about Milera's troublesome meth addiction.
3. Get Matthew Liptak to announce that after further examination, Ryan Burton's leg will require amputation just below the knee.

Are you trying to say if we had the option to draft a young Goddard we'd have to think about it v other options? Or even picks a few before ours? I think everyone would be happy to give up a top 10 pick to get a career like Goddard's out of their player.
Think Goddard cheats on the field and is often unaccountable picking up cheap kicks ......i've given my comparisons as to how it could turn our with the right coach

it's close ......can't see Weideman being a great #4 pick ??

Josh Battle, Jarrod Korewha and Luke Strnadica are the best KPF next year. The rest are Northern Academy aligned. The best KPD is that is Northern Academy aligned is Sam McLarty from oakleigh.

Draft 'gurus' who write mock drafts a month or more out from the draft never even come close to getting the order right. There are always bolters and sliders. I'm no mathematician but I'd say there's less than a 1% chance that all 8 guys you've listed will be taken before our first pick.

Any idea of which pick those guys are rated at? And what style of KPF's are they?

As much as I'd like Francis and Milera to slide it'd be a nightmare for our recruiting team if they're both available at our first pick. There's a chance they could both still be there at #9 but hard to see them still there at #12.

Total draft, by both talent and needs.
Ok ....but these are just opinions like everyone elses .....selections by where i think clubs will take players .....but our picks based on who's left and talent (with an eye on needs)

Carlton .... Weitering....(no brainer)
Brisbane - Schache ......(no brainer)
Melbourne - Parish .......(Essendon desperately want Parish who = Shane Crawford)
Essendon - Francis .......(best available & suits Essendon's rebuild)
Essendon - Milera .........(if Essendon were desperate for midfield run, think they'll take Milera/Balic)
Gold Coast - Curnow ......(GC showed last year that they always take best available)
Melbourne - Collins ........(take one midfielder & one KPD)
Carlton - Weideman........ (KPP Bookends)
Adelaide ...Oliver .............(Midfield Contested Beast - run risk of losing Mackay though)
GWS - Hopper ...............(obvious Academy Player)
Carlton - Rhys Mathieson ...(or Hibberd, two talls and a midfielder)
Richmond - Hibberd ..........(whoever Carlton doesn't take - doubt they'd take Mackay)
Adelaide - Mackay ..............(great talent)

Ranking Of Adelaide Players Missed
Burton
Bonner
Partington
Redman

Pity we didn't have a pick for Callum Moore:(

Josh Battle is you real competitor. Crashes packs, sets up teammates and is probably the best marking forward. 10-30 range due to the fact that hes a smaller KPF but has great competitiveness about him.

Luke Strnadica is your combo Ruck/KPF type. Is second on the goal kicking in the WAFL colts and has great mobility for size. Makes matchup problems and can have stints in the Ruck which he does very effectively. 5-30 range because of his athletic traits and clear dominace in the u18 champs and WAFL colts.

Jarrod Korewha is your classic mobile swingman. Plays back very well but i like him as a forward more. Runs extremely well and could probably play on a wing as a tall wingman. Doesn't take contested marks but moves like a midfielder. 15-45 range because of his unexposed form and that unclear marking dominance.

Ill have a full top 30 best players for 2016 a week after the draft in the Phantom Draft forum if interested.

Thanks for the detailed response. I had a look at him on the afl site, he looks very good. I liked that he compares himself to Hodge and Goddard, makes him a pretty handy swingman, especially if he can rotate through the midfield too.

They're calling next year a midfielders draft so it would be important to grab at least one tall, if available.

Francis is a gun, he's not v accountable though and needs to work on his defensive skills

At this stage his best football would be played in a loose hendo type role across half back or on the least dangerous forward

He would definitely play 12+ games next year if fully fit

extract from Callum Twomey artice on AFL website, he is normally around the mark

The top-end of this year's draft remains unclear just over three weeks before names are called at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

Carlton is expected to take key defender Jacob Weitering with the first pick and the Brisbane Lions are tipped to draft goalkicking forward Josh Schache with the No.2 choice.

But after that a number of names continue to be linked with the next group of picks, including key forwards Charlie Curnow and Sam Weideman, midfielder Darcy Parish and half-forward Wayne Milera.

Oliver has also come into considerations, with South Australian defender Aaron Francis a chance to be available at the Crows' first pick at No.9.
