It is a huge risk taking a player whose had such a massive injury and has yet to play a game in over 18 months. Burton has had a large number of pins inserted into his leg (think it's ten). Apparently the injury was very substantial.
Does he even have any spring in his legs or how does it affect his kicking. No one knows because no ones seen him since the injury.
Sure high risk for high reward but a first round pick should not be that high risk a pick.
This is not like Lever,a knee reco is quite standard these days and players come back from them all the time.
Having said that if the Crows are considering taking him then I'm sure they'll do their due diligence.
A medical examination and a try out must be the minimal assessment you would subject him too.

Why take the risk when there are good picks on the board with no question marks by their name.
If we manage to snare 2 first round picks ( Dangerfield) then perhaps I would be more agreeable with the choice.

I'm guessing he'll be a slider unless clubs know more about how well he has recovered and are comfortable with that..

Technical point, it's 10 screws not pins.

Anyway, Tibial Plateau fractures are pretty horrible and I suspect he'll have some pretty average arthritis down the line as they involve the joint surface. He's got a long road back and given the injury, I'd be really worries spending a 1st on him.

Technical point, it's 10 screws not pins. Pins run down the shaft of the broken bone, generally used for Femur/Tibial shaft fractures, only really use 1 of them. Screws hold plates or bone fragments in place, Ryan would likely have 2 plates with 10 screws.

If he's still there at 28 or 32 (whichever one we keep) I'd pick him.

He's a Gold coast academy kid from Southport.
Interesting that ended up there. In Year 8 he was on a scholarship at Scotch College in Melbourne.

I watched him play and absolutely dominate a game, all their coaches telling me he would be drafted.

I wasn't convinced. He was basically a man in terms of physical development. He was bigger, stronger, faster and more athletic. It allowed him to dominate. I didn't think he was actually that good though.

I wonder why he ended up in QLD?

You're thinking of hibberd ....reckon he's more in mix for pick 13 or even if we can trade up our 28 and Kerridge for pick 20 . His testing was phenomenal . 15.7 beep , won kicking test etc he's 19 and injury prone , I wouldn't take him until pick 20ish if we can get another pick there. Good player

Bicks boy Darcy tucker tested well 2.98 20m , 15.3 beep and 10.19 in 3km which makes him one of best runners in draft , strangely his agility didn't test that well
At the risk of another Bicks Tucker rant; his poor agility testing seems about right seeing his struggles when moved from half back to the midfield this year. May be more a straight ahead running half back. Hope we don't go there.

Doubt Hibberd would be in the mix as early as 13.

Great piece of work. 2013 was a good year considering Tippetgate. Same with 2010. Promotions off rookie list have worked well.

I like McKay with one of the first rounders. Need to bank a quality long term key forward to develop and groom to take over from Tex and Jenkins. These guys take a while to develop so start planning and recruiting now!
Yep and his twin brother at 28 or 32. Book ends. #twintowers

I reckon we are a better than good chance to take Milera with pick 9. I also hope we pick up Weideman with a later pick so we can bring back the "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED" chant.
Haha weed chant would be awesome !!!

But I reckon
Pick 9 harry McKay
Pick 13 Wayne milera

Or reverse that depending on who they think is more at risk of being taken first

Interesting that ended up there. In Year 8 he was on a scholarship at Scotch College in Melbourne.

The most interesting thing about this is apparently he hasn't been spotted at any level of significance since he left Melbourne

Have GC been hiding him or has he been playing other sports

Didn't play for GC academy or Qld U18 this year

I think we will draft Harry McKay and then approach Tucker or Milera

I love the look of Milera in the combine footage on Fox. I understand his heart will be a lifetime issue but will it severely impact his football and will it be a risk we are willing to take though it is no fault of Wayne's at all ?

If we can package pick 32 and kerridge for carltons pick 20 then hibberd would be a great get among others ....he could play wing and half back and rotate with smith between those spots

At the risk of another Bicks Tucker rant; his poor agility testing seems about right seeing his struggles when moved from half back to the midfield this year. May be more a straight ahead running half back. Hope we don't go there.

Doubt Hibberd would be in the mix as early as 13.
Agree re hibbeed , pick 20ish sounds right for him

There's just something that feels right about a whole stadium full of South Australian's shouting "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED".

Sando said last night he thinks we're every chance to take Hibberd at 9, seems a bit high given he's an over ager, surely that puts him at a bit of an advantage??

They were also pumping Rioli's tyres up big time on the back of his combine results suggesting he might even go 1st round, he's a small forward FFS that in his games for the Rebels shows flashes of brilliance, in his nine games in the TAC he made the bests on one occasion only, outstanding with his forward pressure and tackling, but first round surely not?? Maybe it's the romance of the Rioli name??

I really want hibberd with pick in 20s and think we should upgrade our 28

It's a bit like when we were into Maynard and d McKenzie , everyone presumed it was for our 1st round but it really doing due diligence for our 2nd round pick

Overagers always go a bit later in the draft than they're expected, as do Tasmanians. I'm guessing he'll be there at 13 but will he be there at 28?
