what AFL player does Hibberd resemble?
West AdelaideMaybe because Hibberd and Francis have the potential to turn into two absolute quality talents? Besides, you obviously don't know a heap about what they are capable of. Francis is not a flanker, he is a 3rd tall/intercept marking-type backman with the ability to go forward and kick goals, and possibly play in the guts. He is NOT a Seedsman/Hampton/Smith type. Hibberd is definitely a balanced HBF, but he has the potential to turn into a gun inside/outside, tall, contested marking mid (THIS is what we are lacking - balanced mids, not inside mids). Hibberd and Francis are two players that are definitely needs, but are also TALENTED footballers. Is there any harm in drafting talented players? I don't think so.
We are not wasting our picks drafting these two players. You seem to want inside mids... we have our inside covered for the time being. We have guys called Rory Sloane, Brad Crouch, Matt Crouch and even Rory Laird if needed. We have already drafted the bones of our team. We need to find players who can potentially fill holes in our side, and perform these roles more than well. Hibberd and Francis are perfect examples of these types of players.
.....you say we need to get players that fill holes in our side ....inside mids are not a need, but HBF 's are ?
West AdelaideTwo completely different style of playerModels his game on The Bont and Fyfe.
Ah chee one of the more genuine A grade talents in this draftLooking around on the various phantom drafts, there's a lot of wide variations for players like Tucker, Ah Chee and others
Ah Chee goes from 45th by Knightmare to 11 by Skippos, 15th by Paige Cardona, 14th on the AFL site and 20th on Fox
Tucker is 50th with Knightmare, 15th with Skippos, 13th with Paige, 11;th on AFL and 21st with Fox.

West AdelaideThe argument at present is whether clubs in fact take best available .....or best available in a position they need to fillI don't think Essendon will take Francis
IMO they will select a genuine KPP and a genuine Mid with their two selections
Francis is neither
I don't think Francis will ever be a forward , kicked a few against WA when SA were rampant just because he's talented and draws the footyMaybe because Hibberd and Francis have the potential to turn into two absolute quality talents? West Adelaidewould LOL if clubs fall for the Milera & Francis flight risk talk and overlook them and crows pick them up.
where some think he'll fall down the order, we'll pick Milera and Carlton will pick Francis ......Huh?
West AdelaideMcKay (H) is going to be a ripper ......one of the youngest in this draftHarry MCKay was talked up as a selection by a few on the first page of this thread before a national champs game had even been played
West AdelaideBalic =ConcaIf Francis goes before our first pick I'm keen on Harry McKay and Balic.
McKay looks bloody amazing to me.
If Francis is still there we have to take him; a mid and tall forward are ideal though.

West AdelaideYou don't think Francis could play Lynch's role?I don't think Francis will ever be a forward , kicked a few against WA when SA were rampant just because he's talented and draws the footy
Can play midfield after 3 pre seasons minimum
He bursts from packs against kids half his size. Uses it ok. We have this sort of player. We don't need more.
Thanks for all the players by the way. Hope Trigg isn't doing too much damage. He's bad like that.
See replies.Huh?
In order of Bolding:
1. IF Francis is not a flanker ....but a 3rd tall ...that must make him a Back Pocket, correct? - No, he plays on the flank, but he is not a traditional flanker - he is an intercept marking third tall, and could play as a 2nd tall if one our KPF's/KPD's get injured during the game.
2. What the hell is this new term "balanced" .....and what is a balanced Half Back Flanker
Does that mean if you're not balanced you don't go near the ball unless it's given to you?
So what's the difference between a balanced HBF and an inside/out midfielder ......do the terms change depending on which zone you play in?
Balanced means that they have a good balance between winning the inside and outside ball. Hibberd certainly has the outside game, and seems to have the scope to develop a very good inside game (it is just decent at the moment, IMO). Balanced HBF means that he can win a decent amount of contested ball from stoppages within the defensive 50, whilst also being able to win outside ball in the style of Seedsman. Tell me one player on our list who has a good balance of that in any part of the ground at the moment?
3. Prey tell how when we lose Dangerfield and about to lose Thompson that we have have inside mids covered .....you serious?
That so .....why the hell did everyone "cream" themselves with the thought of getting Parker ......apparently surplus to requirements
Let me say this - if the player was Isaac Smith (the best outside mid in the comp) instead of Parker, would you still be creaming yourself? Yes you would. An elite mid is an elite mid - you can never have enough of them. This is the only exception to the 'trade for needs' rule - would you turn down Parker if we had Sloane and BCrouch, and still had Danger? No you wouldn't. The thing is, our PROVEN depth in this area of the ground is better than other areas.
4. Now you're getting me mad again.....you say we need to get players that fill holes in our side ....inside mids are not a need, but HBF 's are ?
Apparently no need for any talls at all ......might again get an argument on that one as well - Like I said, where is our depth for balanced mids and intercept marking, versatile 3rd/2nd talls? We have NONE. Hibberd and Francis can fill these holes. I don't argue that we don't need tall forward depth - in fact, I'd be happy if we got McKay or Burton - however, I just feel that we have a greater need for these positions. If Francis/Hibberd grown into their potential, we will have a perfectly balanced side. No joke. It's the balanced sides that rely on the team, not necessarily the individual players, to perform that get places. See Hawthorn.
I am not denigrating Francis or Hibberd ....just your flawed logic behind rationalising picking them
Don't be fooled by clubs saying they choose best available ......so Essendon will choose a tall and mid simply because they're best available ......nothing to do with an aging midfield and loss of 3 talls at all - why did GWS choose Boyd AND McCarthy when the still had Patton and Cameron, then?
Yeah, Ah Chee is another one I'd be happy with. Smart footballer, although we might have his position covered.Ah chee one of the more genuine A grade talents in this draft
Sorry but getting angry here.......how can you simply throw the term "no harm to add them "into any draft conversation?
Questions:
1. how many top 10 picks has the Crows had?
2. We've just loss the AFL's top 5 player .....an inside beast, and about to lose Thompson ....plus losing Wright ...that's a fair bit on inside class players being lost
And you see no harm in adding a couple of flankers to replace Henderson .......SERIOUSLY are you thinking about what your posting ?
Not just you but general thinking has no thought to team / list structures
Just added 2 half back flankers in the trade .....have Shaw and Otten fit again .....but hey lets recruit flankers with two VERY IMPORTANT draft picks ......what's the harm hey![]()
Haha, maybe the worst ever attempt at a burn. Keep trying.Oh no. I feel sorry for your parents. They would have had such high hopes for you when you were born.
And now you're....this?
Such a shame.
No way, would take him 5 pre seasonsYou don't think Francis could play Lynch's role?
Two completely different style of player![]()
I definitely thought Lever would be gone by our pick. I always thought Laverde or Weller.
Balic =Conca
If that's to your liking .....but for me if you didn't think Kerridge had any weapons, then you'll love Balic![]()
And Carlton won't be perfect for him , playing for them will ruin himyoud think mcKay is perfect for Carlton before our pick.
got no choice they obviously want a kpf and he would be best avail at 8 you would thinkAnd Carlton won't be perfect for him , playing for them will ruin him
West AdelaideWright was the Steak KnivesYou had me until you threw Wright in as "inside class".

West AdelaideYou sure 5 ? ......that's half his career in footy .....not exaggerating a bit?No way, would take him 5 pre seasons
