List Mgmt. Draft Watch 2015

This is my guess for the top 13 picks:

1. Carlton: Weitering
2. Brisbane: Schache
3. Melbourne: Weideman - Drafted good midfielders last year, I think they'll grab a genuine tall with pick 3
4. Essendon: Parish - Best midfielder
5. Essendon: Curnow - A forward option, which is what they need. Don't think they'll take McKay, but Curnow will go high
6. Gold Coast: Milera - They have a fair few quality mids already, but no good small forward, especially with Bennell having departed
7. Melbourne: Oliver - Ball winner, predicting him to bolt up to first round
8. Carlton: McKay - Best remaining tall forward
9. Adelaide: Francis - Best available
11. Carlton: Mathieson - Contested winner
12. Richmond: Ah Chee - Small forward
13. Adelaide: Not sure, best available midfielder, maybe Tucker

This is another take:

1. Carlton: Weitering
2. Brisbane: Schache
3. Melbourne: Parish - Best midfielder
4. Essendon: Weideman - Need a forward
5. Essendon: Francis - Best available
6. Gold Coast: Milera - They have a fair few quality mids already, but no good small forward, especially with Bennell having departed
7. Melbourne: Curnow - A forward option, which is what they need.
8. Carlton: McKay - Best remaining tall forward
9. Adelaide: Oliver - Ball winner, predicting him to bolt up to first round
11. Carlton: Mathieson - Contested winner
12. Richmond: Ah Chee - Small forward
13. Adelaide: Not sure, best available, maybe Burton/Bonner/Tucker/Hibberd

Note: I'm not even close to being a draft expert so these top 13s probably won't happen
First one looks very plausible , weideman to melb at 3 is a good one , looks like they have seen enough of dawes and want someone to partner Hogan

I say petrie because of how their both lumbering, marking targets who don't bully their opponents just run them into the ground
McKay isn't lumbering , v agile and turns his player inside out whereas I agree that Petrie leads up better

Mckays style suits modern game where forwards push up ground following the press then run back to goal

Few predictions

McKay to Carlton at 8

Burton to slide to late teens , twenties

Partington to slide to 30s

O' Kearney to slide to 40s

Jordan Dawson from sturt to get drafted in main draft

Lovell to go late if at all

Gach nguyen first ruckman drafted

Great effort on both options :thumbsu:

IMO this will be the closest of your two options

Harry McKay is a guy who might take 5 years or more to really come on.

Do our core have 5 years left in their prime?

You might be right but some teams are heading back towards those big forwards.
The core changes every year anyway as different players are drafted and traded.
The trick is to get the balance right in one particular year when it all comes together.
McKay would be helped out with a fairly experienced and potent forward line.

I read somewhere he supports the Tigers?
I don't know who he supports but his grandfather Murray still lives in Adelaide I'm pretty sure and spent a fair amount of time working in SA post football. His grandmother is a Pt. Augusta "girl" too and he likely has plenty of rellies over there. Murray Captain coached the Blood 'n' Tars and his father Mark started his footy career there too.

Anyway, this is my take on the first round.

1: Jacob Weitering (Carlton) - obvious
2: Josh Schache (Brisbane) - obvious
3: Callum Mills (Sydney)
4: Charlie Curnow (Melbourne) - reckon Brett Anderson is on the money here. Curnow could very well be the forward/midfield X-factor that IMO the Dees need
5: Jacob Hopper (GWS)
6: Sam Weideman (Essendon) - need a KPF, been linked to them
7: Darcy Parish (Essendon) - best available mid
8: Wayne Milera (Gold Coast) - Bennell replacement, although I'm not sure about this pick
9: Matthew Kennedy (GWS)
10: Clayton Oliver (Melbourne) - contested beast to go with Brayshaw
11: Eric Hipwood (Brisbane)
12: Harry McKay (Carlton) - KPF that they can develop
13: Aaron Francis (Adelaide) - Surely we go with Francis here
14: Kieran Collins (Carlton) - KPD to pair with Weitering for the next 10+ years - will be unstoppable
15: Ben Keays (Brisbane)
16: Jade Gresham (Richmond) - reckon the Tiges will go safe with this pick and go with Gresham, seems like their type
17: Darcy Tucker/Callum Ah Chee (Adelaide) - could go either way IMO. Reckon Tucker is more likely though
18: Darcy Tucker/Callum Ah Chee (St Kilda) - the Saints will pick the last man standing
19: Rhys Mathieson (Hawthorn) - Mitchell replacement
20: Mitch Hibberd (Gold Coast) - been linked to them, KK and Hibberd could do a lot of damage off half-back
21: Harley Balic (North Melbourne) - gives North a bit of outside class
22: Riley Bonner (Hawthorn) - Birchall replacement
23: Ryan Burton (Carlton) - reckon Carlton can take a risk here

My friends really close to him and has said that he supports adelaide
Weren't we trying to manoeuvre ourselves up the draft order this year? Would that have been who we were keen on?

I reckon that "supporting" a team changes for kids who are actually in the system and a chance to be drafted.

From 14/15yo onwards they'd view clubs as possible destinations and judge them that way rather than feel the tribal us vs them emotions us fans do.

You mean at the point where it takes over their life? When it becomes more than just a hobby to them? When it could dictate where they live and how they live their life? :p:cool:

I think their reasoning might be that they can get midfielders with their other picks (10 and 19), but there aren't any good tall forwards outside of potential top 10 picks

I hope they think like that. Guarantees us one of Francis, Milera or Oliver. Francis and Oliver in particular are that angry ginger type that will be frighteningly built by the time they're 21. I love an angry ginge.
