Jesus if the order went this way we'd miss out on Francis, Milera and Oliver. Balic being the first non-academy player being available at ~9.

Never said they do. If you read the earlier posts, you'll know I said we have Talia, Hartigan and Lever at a pinch, who I'm sure we'd rather play as a third tall at this early stage. Also said we'll almost certainly pick one up in the rookie draft.195cm doesn't indicate a player is a KPD. We have three true KPDs: Lever, Talia and Hartigan.
We can pick up a decent KPD backup in the rookie draft, we don't need to use a round 1 pick on a KPD that will be behind Talia and Lever for the next 7 years.
In contrast we desperately need more midfield talent, and that's where our focus at the draft should be.
Melbourne more than likely to take Parish as they know they'll get the one of Francis and Curnow that Essendon don't take and are happy with either but don't want to take both. Carlton's 8 still unknown. Could all change again though but things starting to settle now.How are Essendon firming on Francis? I think they're firming on Parish and Weidemann.

We would end up withh McKay ....but this is just a form guide and not a mock draft , as twomey says mckay will go top 10 ...Carlton the fav at 8Jesus if the order went this way we'd miss out on Francis, Milera and Oliver. Balic being the first non-academy player being available at ~9.
The one thing I don't agree with is that we desperately need more midfield talent. Kind of weird that our own supporters are so down on a talented bunch of guys. B Crouch, Sloane and Thompson are top line, Smith and Douglas not far off. And the young kids M Crouch, CEY, Grigg, Knight and Atkins are at just the right age and level of experience where they can start making a serious impact. I think we've got a stronger midfield than most clubs.

At least one of those emerging guys, if not 2 or 3, will have a great year a la Laird. We draft well and develop well. If we could just stop our best players from leaving, that flag's ours.I'm not down on our midfielders, I just realistically don't think we have the midfield talent that we used to have (thanks Dangerfield you campaigner).
We have Brad Crouch, Smith and Sloane as elite talents, Thompson is about to retire. Douglas is a decent player, and I expect that Matt Crouch will be as well. Beyond that we have emerging players and unknowns, with Knight and CEY in my opinion at the top of that list.
I think we need one more elite midfield talent, and two definitely wouldn't go astray.
On top of that I think we need a rookie/backup key position defender and a development key forward

This is not his mock, though - just a ranking of players. He's never been big on Harry McKay, despite a lot of conjecture that he will go in the first ten live picks.
No one is firming on anyone. They all pretty much know what they want to do

I'm with you, not sure what Vader is on.Lol your the one stating Otten is a Key position defender!
It's like saying (our) Tom Lynch is a Key position forward
He is a third tall/rebounding defender fyi - do you get foxtel in Canberra? He did fill in as a part time second ruck/forward for half a season but you probably only know that because I told you last week!
Fair enough.
I guess conjecture is putting Parish as an almost certain 3, as Melbourne should still be able to get a forward at their next pick, unless they think Essendon will take Curnow instead of Francis with Weidemann. Which they may.
I can't get that out of my mind whenever I think of Otten. That was embarrassing. Gunston should be the very type (and only type) that Otten can match up on. Gunston isn't overly tall or big and strong. He also isn't quick just agile.Remember him on Gunston at AO 2 years ago?
I think Gunston kicked hawthorns first 3 and ended up with 5

We're getting Andy Otten?And 13 +9 = 22 a complete squad
In 3 consecutive posts you've demonstrated a startling lack of knowledge of the game.
I'm glad you brought up West Coast (McGovern and Schofield will be very surprised to hear that neither of them played in the Grand Final) because they're an excellent case in point. When Brown, McKenzie and McGovern all went down during the season, they still had Schofield and Barrass to play. They have 5 defenders at 195cm or over. We have one.
The third tall is a resting ruckman? Ok. You might want to look that up or maybe watch some games. The third tall is not called third because they're not as good (that's kind of funny). They're generally shorter and more suited to rebounding, coming off their man, being third guy up etc. Josh Gibson is an excellent example of a third tall.
And Andy Otten has never played as a KPD. He's always been a rebounding defender and finished 2nd in the Rising Star in that role.

Yet he got destroyed. Otten is cooked. Sorry but true. For those that are holding out hope, give up now.
I can't believe Vader stands by guys like Otten and VB, yet writes off Grigg & M.Crouch. The latter have been in the system 8 yrs & 11yrs respectively and still embarrass themselves and the club on game day.

So thanks for reiterating everything I said, appreciate it.

Francis would be perfect, not so much for type (we have a million non key defenders) but just great talent, footy smarts, leadership and competitiveness. Doubt he'll get to us though. So what type of player would you draft with our two first round picks?
Go and check how many games Thompson has missed in 11 seasons. Durable is not the word. Averaged 23 possessions and was one of our best last year. Why so harsh on your own club legends?Well, Thompson has maybe eight good games left in him.
Crouch hopefully plays for us again. Sloane is A-list. Douglas is solid B+ and Smith hasn't proven he can be a fulltime member of the midfield rotations going forward. I think Matt Crouch and Knight have the talent to be part of the rotations and I hope one of our offease trades can step up too.
I think we're still a way off with out mids. Maybe two quality pieces short of where we'd want to be - while I think the rest of our team structurally wouldn't look out of place in a grand final squad.
