FWIW, you may also find that we are hoping to play Menzel of the HBF.

What an absolute ****ing waste of pure talent that would be. One of the most natural forwards...

Not saying your info is wrong btw, just no part of my body wants to believe it

I'm fairly open to another inside mid being taken.

The main reason, and I don't advertise it for obvious reasons (it's not that important to me) is that I don't think Matt crouch's ceiling is higher than B grade.

Yes he does a lot well now, but I agree with those that think he is closer to his ceiling that you might expect. He finds it, and moves it on ok in close. His disposal is bad, but his decision making isn't so he can usually do something ok with it. But finding it is instinctive, he won't necessarily get better at it. He doesn't have his brothers 360 view of the field, but he is tough.

The problem is that he provides no spread, none. yes his endurance is poor, and than can improve but he doesn't seem to me to be someone who has that sense. Dangerfield never worked hard enough to make space or provide spread either but he was explosive enough he could kick start things from inside. Matt crouch isn't fast or athletic enough to do that.

I still see Matt Crouch as a Sam Mitchell lite, with less vision, spread or disposal. That's still useful but it's not nearly an A grade player.

So if we decide we want a matheson I can support that

OMG you are Vader, I bloody knew it

It's often not his skill level that hurts him, I've found his biggest weakness to be more so composure and decision making.

Often rushed kicks this year and handballed out of packs blindly when he could have worked his way through the congestion.

This will all improve over time and experience, which is why for now, I'm confident he has what it takes to become a very good inside midfielder.

I agree with this. That WCE game at AO aside - when he had 4-5 absolute stinkers by foot - I have always thought he had sneakily underrated footskills/decision making by foot. When he lifts his eyes and tries to hit a short target, he usually does, and it's often creative. I reckon he would have impressive "hockey assist" numbers this year because he is one guy who will often look to hit a target in the centre square when we are attacking down the wing/half forward flank.

What hurts his reputation is the frequency with which he just gets the ball and kicks it as far as he can to nobody. Similarly by hand in close he often goes for an unrealistic target and misses it.

Tend to agree he will improve substantially with experience and learning how to work through game situations.

CAN Burton replicate this bloke .....who also drifted due to long term impact of a Broken Leg .......still the romantic thoughts still coming out of me :)

The scary thing about him is that he's predominately a midfielder, played most of his junior footy as one. He's only been playing as a forward due to his leg break and they're sort of easing him back into it by playing him in the forward line.

He's the best clearance player at the dogs behind closed doors training, not sure if Libba counts due to ACL injury.

Stringer as a mid will be very similar to Dangsrfield, possibly better.

I see him as another priddis, and probably about the same ceiling, which I consider to be B+/A- level but not elite. If we go for an inside mid, I would prefer Oliver, as Mathieson seems very similar to Matt as well.

You will get no argument from me if the club does for Oliver, it's just if they go down that path I can understand why.

Priddis has great vision and spreads from the contact like a pro. His movement is on a whole different level so I don't see that comparison myself

Crouch kick starts things from inside with clever hands. Different methods get similar results. Hopefully he works on the spread and defensive action.

Could it be Menzel has to learn some defensive aspects of his game at 21 yo ....whilst using his creativity off HB ....just a thought?

Agree ....can see M.Crouch in Priddis and S.Thompson .....both slowish but pretty handy players, as long as you have only one of that type in your midfield

His hands aren't as clever as you think they are.

Priddis and Thompson are/were far more than "pretty handy". Crouch will never be anywhere near either.

Is that why he didn't make the TAC team of the year?

Fair call. He was actually better as an underager - he was AA the year before being draft age, but was injured a lot his draft year.

Can't believe all the Crouch hate, is this from sitting up close at the game and watching how he works during stoppages ? Or just from watching him move around on TV.

If he ends up being B grade then that's fine with me because he is a serious gun in the midst of traffic & very very good at finding a player with a handball, we need outside players to compliment this.

So just chuck all the South Aussies in a hat and draft whoever comes out?

Danny Meyer, come on down!!!
Well if Francis doesnt make it to pick 9, then for sure we go for best talent from where-ever.

But if he makes it to us, we surely take the best talent who is also from SA?

Same goes for Milera and Partington. They are rated in the top 15 talent wise, so if we take the same approach of best talent - they will be in the mix.

Yeh but if all draftees were rated exactly the same by each group, we wouldn't even bother having recruiters. Who's to say Francis is rated high by the club? Not saying he isn't, but we shall see!
