I realise that we've taken some quality talls in recent years which is why I only want to really target the one tall this year.We have actually taken a fair few talls with quality picks in the last 4 drafts.
2009: 2nd Griffiths 3rd Atbury 4th Taylor
2008: 1st round Vickery 2ndost
2007: 2nd Rance
2006: 1st Riewoldt
With less than a week until the draft my current wishlist stands as:
6. Jared Polec
30. Luke Mitchell / Seb Tape
47. Daniel Farmer / Viv Michie
51. Sam Crocker / Myles Sewell / Michael Hibberd
63. Andrew Phillips
79. Pass (Houli)
i cant believe just about everyone is going with the notion that the top 6 is set in stone.
surely atleast one maybe even two of those picks will be different to what everyone expects?
as for polec being compared to fiora, i disagree, polec is alot more competitive, better contested ball winner, better mark over head and most importantly looked good against grown men
good point about polec. liking him alot.
also i dont' see it as all that surprising that top 6 is 'set in stone'. if i remember correctly, last year's top 6 was pretty much predicted by most of the mocks as well a few days out from the draft and it didnt' have the 3 guarantee picks from GC.
Just looking at the vids...not sure Smith is the way to go...seems to bomb long with alot of the footage I saw. Was impressed with Caddy though...could he be chance at 6?
I'll be at the draft at Broadbeach on Thu....will be interesting seeing it live and up close.
i went last year, you kind of feel like your sitting at a dinner table while an interesting conversation is going on but no one can hear or see you so you just have to sit there and watch.
i enjoyed it, many otherr didnt, but i guess you need to have knowledge of the players and understand where they were expected to go.
Emma Quayle has her top 25 in order of talent out

A few interesting placings and Harper isn't in the 25. She's generally a really good judge as well.
11. JOSH CADDY
(Northern Knights, 18, 186cm, 82kg)
A madman midfielder who fights like crazy for the ball inside packs. Tackles and harasses, yet if he does get a few moments in the clear, plays with enough poise. Uses his height as an onballer well, makes people get out of his way and has the pace, endurance and strength to do it all at AFL level.
Which AFL player do you feel you resemble and why?
Although he’s only new to the system, I believe I resemble Dustin Martin as he is a strong clearance player with the ability to go forward and kick goals.
In the words of Josh Caddy -
I love it. Already a kid wants to be just like Dusty

http://www.sportsnewsfirst.com.au/articles/2010/11/12/mckenna-confirms-wa-draft-interest/Brisbane is believed to have wavered on taking gritty Victorian country midfielder Dyson Heppell.
The Lions now appear more likely to pick classy Woodville-West Torrens on-baller Jared Polec with their first choice and number five overall.
Agreed. IMO talent wise I have Harper top 10 this year.Interesting no Harper in Emma Quayles top 25.
Lets hope he can last to pick #30.Agreed. IMO talent wise I have Harper top 10 this year.
if we leave them as they are and they dont come good we are just further and further away.
mcguane doesnt have the skills or decision making in my opinion.
thursfield just doesnt do enough, i think he is a natural defender and good spoiler but just doesnt have enough of an impact.
moore is the one capable of making it as a third defender if surrounded by good key defenders, but by the time we make the 8 we may have a better option.
as i said astbury is the one capable of making it as he has the foot skills, decision making and will eventually have the size.
rance will never be a key defender.
gourdis im not a fan of, for me he is an athlete not a footballer, and those types dont usually make good fullbacks.
grimes is one i rate, he has the football brain, skills are decent and to me looks like a composed player down back. of course he has a long long way to go, and im far from saying he will make it, but he is the type id prefer in defence to gourdis, mcguane or thursfield.
i doubt we will draft a key defender this year because we have so many, but next year im sure we will, with atleat 1 and maybe 2 of those mentioned above.
when we do draft a key defender he needs to be a footballer, someone who can read the play, make good decisions and has handy footskills. of course they need athleticism to go with modern day fowards, but a footballer first, then athlete.
