Wont get tagged straight up in the AFL, will get time to fill out so he can handle a touch up. His kick, to me, suits our long kicking style to a tee.

He dominated that first half so much they actually tagged him in the 2nd half. Plus Polec will not get the tag in AFL. With Deledio, Cotchin, Martin, Foley and even Morton running around the kid won't cop the attention.

Polec played in the SANFL finals in a very competative side. It would have been hard work to keep his spot and he played on after the tragic loss of his best mate in a car accident. He shows great character, kicks goals from 60 on the run, and has x factor!!

Ok I am obviously in the minority here but Heppell is the only one I want @ Pick #6. Yes I am biased as I have seen Heppell play whilst I have only seen videos of Polec. I also seem to be the only one that is not impressed by the videos, particularly his kicking. Posters are claiming he can kick goals from 60m on the run but the videos I have seen show he barely makes the distance from 50m. I also didn't see him use his right foot once. Can the Pro-Polecs (trying saying that 5 times quickly) point me to the videos they are watching to calm my fears?

If Heppell is gone then I would like Gaff or Gorringe but not Lynch.

PS - As for his X-factor, I am not sure that any singing or dancing talent he has means that we should draft him........although if he can arrange an introduction with Danni....;)

There are two videos on youtube under his name which go for roughly 10 mins each. Both feature footage of both he and Brodie Smith and in one of them, I think it's this one he absolutely dominates the first half

I have it on good authority that Luke Mitchell was in at Tigerland today and interviewed for 2 hours by Damien Hardwick and the Richmond recruiting team. Bit early for him at pick 6 but you can lock it in at pick 30.

I'm with ya Googsta - like you I've only watched Polec in highlights clips and...well the clip (SANFL v Glenelg) is damning - Polec has a penchant for bombing it and often not hitting a target. He also seems to be easily bumped off the ball. I know he's a kid playing against men...but....

Smith actually looks the goods in the same clip - poised, uses both feet, can kick it long and to position. Good all round footballer who plays smart.:thumbsu:

Dunno...seems as though I am definitely missing what lots of other posters are seeing in Polec. Happy to be proved wrong.

I have a feeling that West Coast will take Polec, Bris Vegas will go Gaff and we will select either Heppell or Lynch (I also like the look of Smith, Atley & Seb Tape).

Must say, I can't wait for next Thurs so we can all move on...

Hardwick was in adelaide today !

Pretty sure I watched Dimma at the Tigers membership launch. Spose he could have been in Adelaide earlier in the day but they trained so prob not. Who's your source the_gun

Thanks for the links bigstyletiger :thumbsu:

Watched them but I am still not convinced (Smith looked alright though). I see some good signs but would love to hear from those that have watched him play live a few times.

No recruiter in his right mind would take Gaff before Heppell.

This doesn't appear to be what the media think and I'm really not sure why you would say that. Heppell might have more hurt factor, more impressive stature, marking etc but Gaff will murder the opposition through work rate and endurance. Not putting him in the same ball park as Cousins but he will play a similar style I think.

I saw all of Polec's championship games in Vic and while he did strongly prefer his left he used his right on a few occasions. He kicked a goal on his right in the final game at Skilled, But most of the time he used his right when he was under extreme pressure to do so and he would chip it to a team mates advantage.

I have no doubt he'll develop it further in a full time AFL environment.

I don't think it matters to much though as I think he'll be picked up before 6 and we end up with one of Heppell or another shock candidate.

Shite...you are correct Swifty - that's who Polec in that clip (v Glenelg) reminds me of too...Azzza Fiora...nnnnoooooooooooooooooooo!

As I said, the draft is full of dumb decisions by stupid recruiters!

The HUN today had Polec at 6 and "Late mail" Viv Michie at pick 30

Michie - “A match winner. Plays either end of the ground and hurts opposition with precise foot skills”

And from - http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/102243/default.aspx
Kevin Sheehan says: Well rounded player who is dangerous as a forward and can play midfield or back. Excellent kick and reads the game extremely well. Vic Metro rep in the under-18 championships for 2010, averaging 16 disposal and two goals.

In Vin`s words

What type of player are you?

I am a medium-sized player who plays in the midfield but can also push to a half-forward flank or half-back flank. I have pretty good skills and can mark overhead, and can kick goals.

Which AFL player do you feel you resemble, and why?

Nick Dal Santo. He is a good decision-maker who is able to find space for himself and has very good skills.

What are your strengths as a footballer?

My kicking is probably my main strength along with being able to mark overhead. I also think I am reasonably versatile, being able to play inside and outside in the midfield as well as pushing forward or back.

What parts of your game would you like to improve?

My main focus is to improve the defensive side of my game, chasing and tackling as a forward and mid. Also my endurance, so I can spend longer periods in the midfield and run more effectively both ways.

Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them?

St Kilda. My dad is a hardcore fan and grew up in the St Kilda area. My whole family are huge Saints supporters.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far, and why?

My family, in particular my dad who has always been extremely encouraging and supportive of me, driving me to training, games and functions.

Viv Michie (23 February 1992, 185cm, 77kg, Vic Metro): Half-forward and half-back who drifts across the front of a pack in the manner of Royce Hart. Classy, clever, and able to keep his nerve, he strikes as a good man to have in a crisis.

With less than a week until the draft my current wishlist stands as:

6. Jared Polec
30. Luke Mitchell / Seb Tape
47. Daniel Farmer / Viv Michie
51. Sam Crocker / Myles Sewell / Michael Hibberd
63. Andrew Phillips
79. Pass (Houli)

i would love this kid with pick 30!:thumbsu:
Not sure he'll get there tugs.

Gaff won't murder anyone. Of the 24 possessions he averaged in the TAC Cup this year, 20 were uncontested, and I bet at least two of his four 'contested' possessions were loose ball gets. Receives a lot of handballs around the back on the half-back-flank. 95% of his kicks travel less than 40 metres. Don't rate him in the top 10 in this draft. Not only would I rather have Heppell, I'd rather Harper, Horlin-Smith, Polec, Tape, Lamb, Isaac Smith, Lynch, Caddy, Smedts or Pitt.

i cant believe just about everyone is going with the notion that the top 6 is set in stone.

surely atleast one maybe even two of those picks will be different to what everyone expects?

as for polec being compared to fiora, i disagree, polec is alot more competitive, better contested ball winner, better mark over head and most importantly looked good against grown men

6 Polec
30 Mitchell
The rest I don't care about.
Vickers said at the social club that he would be playing forward so that leaves Browne and Gus to ruck. With Houli and Griggs replacing Tambling and Collins we still need a mid to replace the Cuz. I know that Hicks, Contin and O'Reilly will get more game time even though they are Rookies. We do however need a big mongrel in our backline. As for the forward line look.
