Gotta get Dan Farmer from Sandy Dragons, 189 cm, quick, versatile and is a great contested mark. Could be the perfect foil for Jack Riewoldt and is a Richmond supporter to make it even more appropriate! Make it happen Tiges!
Can someone enlighten me as to what picks we officially have?

Went and watch the TAC cup semi final between the Dandynog Stingrays and Calder Cannons and saw Hardwick, Francis Jackson and Blair Hartley.

Good to see the coach getting involved.

So any observations about the players? Who looks good and why? Who do you think Hardwick and FJ have their eyes on?

Which top end talent plays for those 2 teams or is there a possible late round smokey they could have their eyes.

Dandynong Stingrays

Parker was very good in the first half setting up the stingrays lead. Was great getting the handball out in the clearances and was very good in the air taking a few good grabs. At one point he applied plenty of pressue and forced the turnover and then run it in the forward 50 a kick a nice goal.

I still think he lacks pace and seems to run around in 3rd gear and not really take it up to the next level espcially when the game was on the line in the 2nd half and just about went missing.

Hallahan played most of the game in the forward line and fail to have an impact really. He ran hard on the lead for little reward but applied plenty of pressure once the ball was in the forward 50 but most of the Stingray side played below thier usual standard today.

Treloar is a strange one... When he's on he is so enjoyable to watch but today he was terrible. He kept running into trouble, putting others in to tight spots with bad hand balls and at one point he tried to kick into the forward 50 and failed to make contact with the ball! His body language was terrible and looked like he just didn't want to be there. He is rumored to have signed with GWS earlier this month.

Lynch had an ok game but was starved of oppertunity really because the Rays just seemed to break down one the got it to the half forward line. Just the one goal to him for the day but he created oppertunities for others in the first half with good hand balls in traffic and bringing the ball to ground.

Batchelor was one of the better players for the Rays and provided plenty of run from the back line and pushed up to the forward line in the 2nd half. He's got dash and a good kick but more importantly he makes good decisions and is sound defensivly both at gound level and in the air. Wouldn't mind looking at him for a 3rd round pick onwards.

I'll do a write up on the Cannons players soon.

So frustrated I had to leave at half time of the Oakleigh Chargers Gippsland Power game to go to effing work.

Apparently the power really turned it on in the second half and Dyson Heppell was BOG for the 2nd week in a row after moving to the midfield and dragging the power over the line.

Heppell is shooting up the order with his ability to really step up and take control of the game and have a huge impact in the midfield. He's such a great decision maker, he has got a lovely kick on both sides can work inside and out.

It's good to now Dimma, FJ and Blair were there to see it all though. Heppell looks like he must come in to consideration for pick 6 that is if GC don't snap him up before we even get a chance to make a decision.

Heppell shaping as high draft pick

GIPPSLAND Power midfielder Dyson Heppell is likely to be one of the hottest properties come draft day and will be showcased in next Sunday's TAC Cup grand final after another best-on-ground performance in the Power's 11-point win over the Oakleigh Chargers in a preliminary final at Visy Park yesterday.

Heppell has certainly come into contention for pick 6, if not earlier. Definitely prefer him to Gaff. GC could conceivably take him before that and risk us taking Gorringe. That's why we should be doing whatever we can to trade for Toy while hanging onto pick 6. That way we could have a crack at Gorringe or Lynch at 6.

On that article, it's the second one recently describing David Swallow as a "defensive midfielder" (both probably from The Age - bit of cut and paste going on?). I would have thought the word "defensive" would be better replaced by "complete".

Excellent (and only right) that Dimma and the blokes were there. No assumptions, received wisdom or unsubstantiated man-crushes in our recruiting anymore.:thumbsu:

The comparison between Gaff and Heppell was described really well by someone (can't quite remember who) posting on the TAC board, in that opposition fans will be infuriated with Gaff because he keeps getting the ball, but they will fear Heppell because he can tear a game to pieces.

Gaff is a player where you will notice him getting the ball a bit, knew he was one of the better players but then when you look at the stat sheet he's had 35 touches at a high efficiency, 3 goals and then you realise he's torn you apart.

If Heppell's tearing you apart you'll know about it all day.

The TAC Cup show on channel 9 just did their phantom draft. They have us taking Lynch at 6, with WCE taking Heppel at 4. They didn't go through the GC picks. TBH I'm not sure we should be drafting a big at 6 unless he's the best available.

TAC Future Stars discussing draft order now. They are doing a mock draft.
Couple of interesting points:
Seems the Top 5 is almost certain.
"Shifter" Sheehan believes Swallow, Bennell, Day & GORRINGE are all GC certainties.
Also, they believe WC will now certainly jump on Heppell.
Therefore, available at our pick 6 will be Atley, Gaff, Lynch etc..
Wallet had us taking Lynch to finish off our KPF stocks... Looks very good, but going on what Hardwick has said I think Atley/Gaff will end up at Tigers.
Interested to hear TFLUA and TVs thoughts on the above.. Personally, I would love to see us give up a player for a pick between 10-15 (Rance/Moore/McGuane etc.), as we could potentially get Lynch and a Caddy/Gaff/Harper type. Thus, an insurance policy on the 'Sex Monster', which would give us JR8, Griffiths, Lynch as potential KPF (I see Astbury as our CHB). Then with the pick between 10-15, we could add to our midfield with a Caddy/Parker/Harper/Gaff(if he slides)..

Cannot agree with them suggesting we will take Lynch at 6. Purely for the following 2 reasons:

1. We already have Riewoldt and Griffiths. Riewoldt is a Coleman medalist and Hardwick has a huge man crush for Griffiths. Not to mention Post is also down at Tiger land.

2. Hardwick already said he wanted an outside mid earlier in the year.

just watching tac show on win tv

they did a phanton draft and they thought we should pick up tom lynch from dandenong stingrays a chf just wandering every ones thoughts i wuold really like caddy as our 1st pick

Fair points Amcre but if your building for a shot at the premiership in 4/5 years time you would have to consider a key forward if there's one available to warrant the pick. Mids can come in and have an impact relatively quickly whereas our key position players are going to take time to develop. What happens if Riewoldt gets injured? What happens if Griffiths doesn't make it due to his shoulders or he just doesn't make the grade? Jack kicked a big total this year but our forward line was so one dimensional and predictable. Wouldn't hurt having a real CHF and we can target mids later on and in the next 2/3 drafts.

Having said all that obviously this is going to leave us a choice of Gaff and Atley and it would be hard to overlook them and if Heppell is still there he also would be hard to look over. Is starting to look a lot like a Brendon Goddard type with his size, versatility, overhead strenght and great kicking.

I'd say we need a key forward and a ruckman, but we need another class midfielder or two as well.

I'd have a whole list of players to look at at six depending on who is there:

Atley, Gorringe, Polec, Gaff, Heppell, Lynch, maybe even Jayden Pitt.

There's no clear cut choices after the first 3 or 4, you could really throw a blanket over, and each player has different strengths and attributes.

My favourites: Atley, Polec & Heppell. If Gorringe was at 6 i'd jump all over him. Don't know about Lynch so early.

Re: just watching tac show on win tv

I'd imagine this will be moved to the draft watch thread.

There's a few knowledgable posters (Toadvine, DT and RATD are the best) who will be more than happy to answer any queries you have.

Got any guys you have a vested interest in amcre?

I'm a big wrap of Josh Green, Patrick Karnezis, and I just adore the creativity and flair of Jed Lamb.

i really think we need caddy so we can leave deledio on the hbf he has very good disposal and tough as nails a must have

with certain rumours that we are looking at players from other clubs such as houli & vespremi etc.

hardwick & co could be thinking we might go either lynch or gorringe with pick 6 & get our outside runners with our later picks from other clubs with either trades or later picks.

i can see the logic of selecting gorringe , would allow vickery to become a foward where he is more suited rather than ruckman

i believe both vickery & gorringe will be very good together as both can play foward/ruck & with browne we could have our giant full time ruck.

graham would be excess to our needs & i personally would trade if a reasonable offer was to be offered.

with hardwick i have the feeling that he's the type of coach that values the big kpp alot & will attempt to build around them rather than the midfield option.

I get sucked in by mids every year but I think this is probably our last year and at best second last year to take talls and hope that they will be ready to stand up in finals in 2014/15 so although my heart says one of Heppell, Atley, Gaff or Polec my head is saying one of Gorringe or Lynch.

Caddy is a tough, in and under player who's as tough as nails, but isn't overly quick, nor does his disposal have the hurt factor of guys like Polec and Pitt. I have him placed in the late teens - due to his lack of an outstanding feature, and I have a handful of guys in front of him as far as pick 6 goes.

But it's very hard to seperate 4-20 this year, and the combine results will very likely shake the order up again.

That's why we desperately need to manufacture a trade to get a pick between 10-15. Maybe a Rance/Moore plus our 2nd pick. This would let us pick up Lynch/Gorringe and then get one og Polec, Gaff, Atley...
Would leave our list much more balanced and less KPD heavy...

my man Heppell is certainly doing his bit to push himself up the pecking order.

hopefully he has a shocker next week so we can grab him at 6.

being able to alternate him and deledio between midfield and half back would give us alot of flexibility, really hoping he lasts till 6.
