Draft whispers, rumours & scuttlebut

I reckon players coming off injuries slide for example Lever/Shcarenberg/Stringer (to a lesser extent) etc... They had the talent/attitude to be picked higher but clubs didnt want to take the risk. I would say they slid to their picks. In the case of Stringer, WB having 2 picks back to back reduced the risk. If they had only had 1 pick, would they have risked it?

I'm being to severe when I say "sliders" don't exist, they probably do but are rare. It's where a player rated in phantom draft predictions is passed over by multiple pro recruiters in succession, is picked later in the draft and then lives up to the original prediction. A couple of possible examples are Rockliff and Sloane. When the player picked later lives up to his selected position then it's just a bad prediction, not a "slide" - this is far more common.

"Bolters" definitely do exist though. It only takes one recruiter with a rogue idea - sometimes good e.g. Easton Wood, sometimes less good e.g. Gysberts or Boekhorst.

Yep, some work and unfortunately some don't. Lucas Cook was a fairly poor one too. Every club has a few though.

Anyone else get the feeling Mathieson is a massive weird unit and a shit bloke from watching his draft trumps video? Like I sense he'd be the type of bloke to ditch mates for the girl?

I'm reading into this too much lol.
He just seems a very rough bogan kid. They often slide as clubs aren't convinced how they'll go in the full time professional world of AFL. But at the same time they often thrive in the AFL.

Of course sliders exist, for various reasons. Jack Darling is the prime example.
Ah yes Jack Darling - the key position forward, home grown WA product that Conservative-mantle were too afraid to take a punt on despite being touted as a potential top 3 prospect...

The Carlton recruiting team were in Adelaide today to visit the Burton household.

We're very keen on him at #11 (and have been for a while.)

... but because of Adelaide's Pick #9 we'll probably look to take him at #8.

Damn I was hoping he would be there at 12.

Any whispers who the tigers are looking at?

Thanks for that. Sounds like there could be a bit of rearranging of the likely draft order as we get close.
He's an interesting one. Loads of talent, but who knows how he'll come up.

Burton makes a fair bit of sense for Carlton, as he fills a definite need and with so many top 20 picks they can afford to take that sort of gamble. They are also playing the long game, so can afford to give him all the time he needs to get his leg right. They also seem to like recruiting from SA traditionally.
Trust me recruiting from South Australia isn't a good idea we did it a lot and hopeful that has stopped.

We love WA and specifically Swan Districts in recent history.

Why? That would make no sense.

Because it would force GWS to give up 10 & 34 to match it. The flow on of this would be that the glut of picks the Lions have in the 30s would all come forward two picks and be a lot more valuable (points wise) to them when they need to use them on their own academy kids.

1 pick.

Essentially pick 10 and 34 becomes pick 2 (bumping all picks down 1), then every pick after 34 (as it is removed) will move up 1.

Okay I guess that makes sense it would allow us to match both bids and not have to sacrifice our first round pick next year
