Draft whispers, rumours & scuttlebut

Rumours:
Bulldogs are considering two absolute bolters at picks 30 & 51 - a ruckman at 30 and a small at 51, both have barely been mentioned on the D&T boards

Dal isn't averse to picking bolters e.g. Webb at 27 last year
Have these names been mentioned on our board? I think I know the ruckman you're referring to but can't recall anything about 51.

What about size and quality Gibson is one of the worst defenders in the AFL he's seriously overrated always gets beaten by the taller forwards I bet he's glad Brown retired being that he was Brown's little bitch.
This is the same Gibson that just won the best and fairest award for the premiership team we're talking about, right? Terrible player...:drunk:

About what that he was Brown's bitch or that he's overrated? He struggles against the tall forwards it's the reason they got Harris and Frawley and were chasing Carlisle this year
Pretty sure he did well on Jono Brown while he was at Hawthorn. If you go back to the games he played well.

I am guessing that you don't watch much of Gibson. He is our most consistent defender in the last 4-5 years. Undersized and does get beaten occasionally but has performed very well against them at times too. Considering the Hawks were the best defensive team in the league at seasons end... says a lot about him and the rest of the defense.

Clearly you haven't been watching footy since the Brisbane Lions were dominate, because there is no "Harris" in our premiership teams.

Gibson is a star - Deserved B&F champion in premiership years. The rock in the hawks defense.

Gibson does fine against the tall forwards - Hawks would rather release him so he can attack, rebound and do all the other things that make him a premiership winning, AA, best and fairest player.

I think Twomey has been hinting for a week or 2 that Parish could slip past Essendon. Think he is preparing to have Essendon taking Francis and Oliver in his final Phantom on Sunday.

Think he will go:

Carl: Weitering
Bris: Schache
Melb: Curnow
Ess: Francis
Ess: Oliver
GC: Parish
Melb: Weideman

How accurate he is, we'll have to wait and see.

I don't mind that.
Good for Melbourne to have 3 tall forwards in Hogan, Weideman and Curnow coming through.
Good for essendon to land Francis and Oliver
Parish v Milera would give GCS something to ponder.
Milera & GCS are so hard to place in this draft. Which is why i think so many have them linked.

If I am Essendon, I bid for Mills, Hopper, Kennedy, Keays and Hipwood,. Get them all off the board.. All clubs will match bids either way..

Heard today that a club with no picks in the top 10 is astonished at hearing how far Aaron Francis is set to fall. They've had him #1 or #2 all year and are now regretting not trading into the latter half of the top 10. Thought he was unattainable.

This is one of the reasons draft day trading can't come soon enough. Mate how exciting would this stuff be to watch happening live.

Sick of hearing one eyed fans with unrealistic draft predictions.... Be more realistic.

Crows have picks 9 + 13 (which will most likely turn into 13 + 16) ... Which I think should be good enough to Land Schache and Weitering..
Isn't it amazing how the 'rumour' or 'inside goss' they get invariably always seems to favour the football club they support. Astonishing :drunk:

Francis will go top 5.

Has been a consensus top 3 pick all year.

There is alot of smoke by clubs at the moment as always at this time of year and the draft guru's are all clamoring to pic the bolters so they can look good and Francis is the easiest to make fall in their mocks.

I still think he goes 3rd to Melbourne.

Has so much Daniel Rich about him (Aaron Francis). A top 3 player all year but come draft day/night will slide a handful of places he was expected to go. Will have a very good start to his AFL career (win the rising star award like Rich? perhaps!) but stagnate in year 2 with others taken before him progressing into better AFL players.

I look forward to playing the team with the 188cm defender or forward with Lions having Freeman, Schache Andrews, and Hipwood all 200cm or just under
Think it'll be the land of Giants at Brisbane in the next few years - whether the balance is right will be the question. Certainly have the mosquito fleet to even it out, but will it be too tall?

Also - the talk of Parish not being selected by Dees or Dons is crazy. Think the Curnow talk is smokescreen and the non-Academy order will be:

Weitering, Schache, Parish, Weideman, Francis/Milera, Milera/Francis, Curnow, McKay, Burton, Oliver as the top 10.

dammit!! I heard the eagles were keen on schache as a sumich replacement

I've heard a rumour that Weitering is likely to make it all the way through to Hawthorn.

Here's how it will happen

MY PHANTOM DRAFT 2015
1. Josh Schache (Carlton) -
After meeting with new coach Brendon Bolton, Weitering revealed he has a pathological fear of short people, causing Carlton to select Schache instead.
2. Johnny Gastev (Brisbane) - Fearing another draftee wanting to return home after 2 years, Brisbane decides to talk Gastev out of retirement, as he is a player who proved to enjoy playing in Brisbane.
3. Callum Mills (Sydney) - Melbourne bids, Sydney matches just to stick it up Eddie McGuire.
4. Darcy Parish (Melbourne) - Melbourne's proven history as recruiting geniuses have them selecting Parish, as they firmly believed that he was 'undoubtably the very best player in the draft'
5. Jacob Hopper (GWS) - Essendon bids, GWS matches due to their overwhelming sense of pride at having done something right on a football field, by developing Hopper.
6. Aaron Francis (Essendon)
7. Sam Weideman (Essendon) -
Essendon selects Francis and Weideman as best available talents, bypassing Weitering as they believed 'his high character and integrity weren't congruent with the current value system of EFC's administration'. They went on, 'We weren't comfortable with his behaviour when we met with him prior to the draft. He was trying to hold us accountable for our actions. We tried explaining to him that wasn't how we did things at EFC, but he wouldn't listen.'
8. Rhys Mathieson (Gold Coast) - fearing their midfield again being decimated by injury, GC target the best mid available
9. Charlie Curnow (Melbourne) - Melbourne are ecstatic securing Curnow, insisting they had him as No.2 on their draft board. They can't believe he was still available. When quizzed about Weitering they explain that they have not been in the hospitality industry for some time.
10. Wayne Milera (Carlton) - Wanting to check one last time regarding Weitering's fear of short people, Carlton deploy a former premiership player to represent them in these discussions. Matthew Hogg reports back that Weitering's status is unchanged. They take Milera.
11. Harley Balic (Adelaide) - Adelaide had every intention of drafting Weitering, but due to their emotional state as a result of losing Patrick Dangerfield, their draft notes were smudged with tears which caused them to read out the wrong number. Welcome Harley Balic.
12. Matthew Kennedy (GWS) - Carlton bids, GWS match. Their pride now overflowing after selecting another from their flourishing football nursery.
13. Jack Silvagni (Carlton) - Who else? Nepotism is part of the fabric at Carlton
14. Eric Hipwood (Brisbane) -
Richmond Bids, Brisbane match. Happy to have a home grown talent
15. Jade Gresham (Richmond) - Believed that Rance's shoulders are broad enough to continue to carry Richmond's backline all on his own, judged Weitering to be an unnecessary investment as a result.
16. Pass (Adelaide) - Commenced immediate therapy for their grief and loss issues. They will be absent for the remainder of the draft.
17. Kieran Collins (St Kilda) - Intended to draft Weitering but new free agent signing Jake Carlisle began to cry at the prospect of having to play forward again. Given their monetary investment in him, and his history of petulant behaviour when things aren't going his way, St Kilda thought it best to keep him happy and not take Weitering. They sneakily drafted another key defender in Collins, but Carlisle was too high at the time to notice.
18. Ben Keays (Brisbane) - Home grown talent, has the Lions happy as a pig in you know what
19. Jacob Weitering (Hawthorn) - Sitting in stunned amazement at what has just transpired, they almost forget to make a selection, but alas for the rest of the competition, they manage to spit out Weitering's number. Almost immediately, they begin planning their premiership celebrations

It could happen right?

;)
