What on earth were the selectors thinking taking presti as a potential CHF first rounder?! Seriously guys give me a break the guy has no disposal skills what so ever...
I am a massive presti fan at FB, but seriously drafting him to play CHF what a joke...

It's a long time ago but i seem to recall he was a star key forward in the Vic Metro under-18s side for the national championships.

Irrelevent where he played as a junior, all that matters is that he's become a very good AFL player - if even 50% of all the players you drafted played 200 games, you'd be delighted.

was considered the best marking player of thet draft by most.

Only issue was his field kicking, thank spudd (frawley)for making him a Full back and telling him to never kick

Wouldnt be the first forward to become a defender.

Peter McCormack was a schoolboy champion full forward for Assumption before coming to Collingwood in the 70's and spending 90% of his career at full back.
I'm pretty sure Billy Picken was recruited as a forward too before he found his niche at centre half back.
And Jason McCartney failed at Collingwood playing mainly as a forward before he found a spot in defence at other clubs and had reasonable success as a backman.
And of course James Clement was a forward at Fremantle.

i don't mind if they drafted him as a bloody boot cleaner he has done an outstanding job at FB. Heaps of players play one position in juniors and as they develop will change positions.

Billy morrison was drafted to play a role in the team and never did!!!

Most good backmen where actually drafted as fowards, even Rutten IIRC played as a foward when drafted. Presti even started in the AFL as a foward for a couple of his first games when Sav was out.

Back then the first round draft thing wasn't as much of an exact science and not as much emphasis was placed on it. All that matters is that he had what it takes to make it in the AFL who cares where

Gee, I don't know, maybe they didn't see him as a forward at all. Maybe our recruiters saw him as a 200 game fullback?????

Why do you believe a player once drafted can only ever play in one position.

The 'poor thinking' here is not Collingwood's, its yours.

I wish Presti was our worst first round draft pick. Pick 10, 200 games - I'm gonna count that as a success :thumbsu:

If you want to pick on top 10 draft picks think Danny Roach, Chris Egan or perhaps Billy Morrison (am I right here, was he pick 10?)

I never said that he could only ever play one position, you really need to practice your comprehension of text!!

I can recall them saying that they picked up a highflying center half forward! Now if you take into account that CHF needs to be a good mark, good reader of play, good goal kicker and good passer of the ball it is fair to say they screwed up, because there is no way known presti could ever play that position. i never said that he couldnt play elsewhere...
The point im trying to make i guess is that our drafting used to be shocking, so bad that we picked up a fullback with no skills (albeit a very highly rated one) instead of a johnathon brown?

Does this mean mark mcgough is the missing link in the ruck?!

Love Presti.

Walk up starter in our best 22 when fit.

We need him on the field.

Perhaps they drafted him to become a full back because they saw abilities that would translate to that position. Who would know, perhaps if we persisted he'd be a pretty good CHF.

Perhaps he was a good kick when drafted.

I guess drafting Swan was a mistake because he was a forward pocket player.

was actually presti marking and leading ability that got him drafted as a chf, he was apparntly very good theer as a junior.

Swan really a forward pocket? i swore he was a back pocket when drafted

Perhaps he was a bit of both. Anyone remember Swan's red stripe hairstyle?
