Went down to the TAC game today, Ranges vs Rebels. For those interested, Free absolutely gunned it in a fairly one-sided match. Rebels flogged them by 67, IIRC 16.14 110 to 6.7 43. Due to the state matches, there wasn't as many draft hopefuls, but Free stood out as a good player. Not "classy" I wouldn't say, but finds the ball a shitload. Reminds me of Foley without the blistering burst of pace. Had the ball on a string at this level, but wouldn't wanna give up more than a 4th rounder for him going off the two games I've seen. Went down to the rooms with my mate to see his bro too, and Free looks quite the leader too, which could come into account.

firstly good news about free, you would think we would take him with one of our last picks.

secondly if we dont get rid of atleast 5 or 6 players then we have wasted another draft. i know everyone has said its not going to be as strong, but with our new coach, we might actually be able to develop players into something.

id like to see us take 5 players and josh under the f/s at the end of the year.
so maybe delist 8, upgrade nahas and browne, and also delist silvester, keep gilligan and draft 3 rookies. doubt we will though, we will end up cutting less players then we think and only draft 4 players.

last year we stuffed up, trading a 3rd rounder for thomson in what was supposed to be a strong draft, so lets hope this year they pull their heads in and actually take 5 or so players.

i dont think we will finish last, melbourne will get 1 and 2 and take the obvious 2 players in scully and butcher.

if im wrong and we get pick 2, we will be left with butcher, which will be a great addition. second round pick we should take a midfielder with skill, if we can win 4 or less we will have 18/19 and 19/20 id like to see us take an aboriginal foward.

with the other picks id like to see us pick up free, a ruckmen and a tall foward.

the problem with the tall guys we pick, apart from rance, they all come to the club without size, they need to put alot of size on and it never seems to happen.

i wanna see us draft a foward who is stocky and strong, but who also works hard.

richo should be the only over 30 kept on the list, cousins if he makes it through the rest of the season should also be held onto.

id like to see petts,JON, johnson, brown, simmonds(although if he was kept on i wouldnt be completely against it), bowden, silvester, hislop and schulz moved on.

if we can get a 3rd or 4th rounder for any of those players then take it, better then using our 5th or 6th round picks.

Kyle Hartigan sounds like a promising prospect. 194cm 84kg KPD from Western played with Post last year, very good defensively and takes plenty of marks from opposition kicks.

Goal to goal line would be looking pretty good with Thursfield FB, Hartigan CHB, Cotchin C & Post CHF. All we would need then is a solid FF option. This would then allow us to play Jack and Moore as 3rd talls. Gee imagine having a side with a decent big man structure for once.

It was encouraging to read on PRE a report from the sponsors dinner that Cotchin really rates Putt. Talent knows talent and if TC has seen what some of us have seen in Putt we could have a beauty on our hands. Just needs the belief according to TC. And the body size of course. You have to be patient with a kid like that, who comes to the club at 202cm and 85kg. When he weighs 100kg and still moves the way he does, look out.

I don't subscribe to the theory that we are set for midfielders. We definitely need another star coming through. Since 2005 we've added Hughes, Riewoldt, Polak, Putt, Vickery and Post as KP/talls, and Edwards, Collins, Connors, Cotchin, Thomson, Hislop as mids. Fact is we need a few more class mids, a stand-out key forward and a tall, big-bodied backman. Post might be that backman. If we get a shot at Butcher we should probably take him, then go mids for the rest of this draft and with our first pick next year as well. Late picks should be used on solid kids with deep voices, hairy chests and good kicks.

I hope we don't end up giving up to much in getting Josh Free.
Manages consecutive BOG's for the rebels but VIC Country cut him from a 40 man squad? This draft will be very important to us so we can't give any concessions.

Free won the club's best first-year player in 2008 and was recently selected to trial with the Victorian Country squad.
Free missed out when the squad was pruned to 40 during the week.
Partington said the Rebels were impressed with Free's team ethic and courage.

Tiges yearn for Josh Free

we need to bite the bullet with post.play him at coburg seniors at FF or roving the HFF and kicking them from 45 meters out. and if he plays good give him a game at richmond, he is also a good size.

FWIW before we start talking about who we should draft we need to ensure we have the right people in the position of selecting the players in the first place.

Most people agree that Francis Jackson is a massive improvement on his predecessor but having one good talent scout is nowhere near enough.

Older BF bloggers would remember Weaver. He was a Richmond mod and had a great knowledge of junior footy putting up his annual mock draft. If memory serves me correctly he is scouting for a club now. If its not us, why not he is a Tiger man.

With all the talk of players to draft Jake Melksham is one not to forget from the Calder Cannons will be a first round choice this year IMO.

Free has been improving of late , probably with more opportunity with some players out with Vic Country etc.. but has come on though.

Not sure he is the most talented player at the rebels think there are a few ahead of him.

Going to be a big call for the club.
Think at this stage he is probably worth a fourth round pick at best, just due to his size , and Richmond probably will look for talls with their earlier picks you would think.

Dont think another club will bid on him , or they may just to call our bluff as the Saints did with Cordy.

Shapes as a massive call for the club , do hope they can get him but hope it doesnt cost too much , Size matters.

can someone shed some light on this 'butcher' kid?

any youtube video's of him? who does he play for
what possie etc

this might seem like mission impossable but if the tigers got ken hinkley as coach next year and simmo, brown, johnson and browden are told they are no longer required, from removing these players , wouldnt we have around 1.7 million, why dont be offer ablett 1.5 million a year?his out of contract this year and has done everythink at geelong, this may seen a good challange for him and hinkley

no. would cost us to much to get him over. and properly won't want to leave.

i think Gold coast have their eye on Joel selwood as a possible marquee player.. They would be able to offer a lot more im sure.

As good as he'd be with lids, cotchin, foley I think we are in need of a key forward a lot more than a midfielder.

i was thinking we could trade some quality for some quality. so maybe a good hard at it mid or KPB for a decent KPF. or we can just stick with vickery, putt, post. anyone of those 3 could come on.

I still think we need a couple of quality HBF, not just possession acculmulators but quality kickers of the ball 'ala" Drummond, Gilbee.

In saying that a MASS Forward is a must and should be the priority.

if we decide to draft a HBF we need to draft one not get a quike fix, unless they are 20 and can play.

I have a question.
With the GC being able to pick up an uncontracted player from a club (max 1 per club). When the compensatory draft pick is allocated, does this draft pick come from the GC allocation or do the AFL allocate the compensatory draft pick from themselves?
(sounds a bit double dutch, but I hope you can get the gist of what I'm asking)
