Is it just me, or is Ben Cousins' influence on Dusty becoming more and more obvious with every year that passes? Obviously they're very different physical specimens, with Dusty posessing more explosive power vs Cousins elite endurance, but the way Dusty moves is becoming eerily similar to Cousins. Both mids who rotate through the forward line to really hit the scoreboard, and Dusty has recently started slicing through packs like Cuz used to. He's even picked up Cuz's knack of selling candy with fake handballs, I saw this a few times on the weekend.

We all saw how much Dusty looked up to Cuz in his first year, but I think he's been doing his homework on Cuz's old tapes. Anybody agree?

ironic u posted tyhis, i was watching him dodging players with ease yesterday thinking he's the new Cuz, or 1st Dusty as i'd put it! he looks such at ease,1 handball where he set up a.maric into space and waited for him to turn around b4 he did it, reminds me on one cuz did to i think cotch to set up a goal in our win v sydney in '10.
it may be just 1 handball, but it shows composure and spacial awarenesss that alot of players don't have.

I was trying to think who he reminded me of in the cats game the way he strolled thru players and cuz is hitting the nail on the head. While I still think the strength and don't argue will be there I think we will see less of the brute force this year and more cutting teams players apart with clever running.

dusty seems to have a 360 view on a contest to know the exact hole with which to run thru to evade players. absolute gold.

His rate of improvement is phenomenal, bold call but when he finishes his career he will be considered an all time great.

I remember early in the first when he handballed through traffic to Cotch to set up the quick kick goal, he got tackled by Kelly as he was handballing it off and you could see as cotch kicked the goal Kelly was latched onto Dustys hips just trying to tackle him to the ground and he just kept his feet and wasn't even budged out of position, his core strength is amazing.

I think Dusty is more Riccuito than Cuz.
Noticed watching the replay on the AFL website that one of the commentators (Gerard Healy maybe) compared him to Gary Ablett Jr in passing. Something along the lines of a classy mid who can drift/rest forward and hurt with 3 or 4 goals. Another pretty handy benchmark!

And on the topic of watching the replay... Dusty played a blinder. Just seems to have all the time and space in the world... like an adult playing against some U14's... and if anyone does get close enough to tackle (can't recall it happening today!) he's able to just fend 'em off! Freak. Very pleased to have him on our side! :D

Martin has been probably moving like he does on a footy field since U6s.

Born that way. An absolute gun of a kid.

Doubt Cousins had anything to do with it..

Must be going alright if people are comparing him to Cuz, Riccuito,G. Ablett jnr. I think some compared him last year to Lethal. Let's just hope he just continues to work hard & who knows what he could become !!?

cuz ha plenty of explosive power out of the blocks in his day, yeah there are some parallels for sure

If Martin can be close to the player Cousins was you would be very happy. If he can be as good as Cousins you would be over the moon. Time will tell, going to be exciting watching him play.

I reckon he will b better than cuz still think hes more like 60pc leigh matthews 30pc ricuito and 10pc cuz .

absolutely influenced by Cousins, i do not remember the game but i remember that feeling i got when i saw Martin go to the bench after a little mistake with Cousins already there waiting for him... the commentary even mentioned how great it was Cous pulled him aside and laid down some of his footy smarts... the shiver of the thought of a player with Martins potential with the footy smarts of Cousins? ill never forget

Thank God I read more than the first line.

I thought you were going to say Dusty had a substance problem.

Whew! (glad that's over)

This.

You can't teach this stuff, you've either got it or you don't. Thankfully for us Dusty has it in spades.
