Its not that iffy that im talking about. His kicking can be very speculative and if it doesn't come off it comes back the other way fast. This is the reason I say his D/M can be iffy. Having players on the same can help but you also have to take that into consideration as the kicker. This is also why I don't like him kicking out after a point.

His biggest problem is accessing the risk of his kick. He rarely misses a target he just misjudges an opponent cutting across and intercepting it. Especially those bullet passes where its easier for some one to mark it as it doesn't get the height to get over their heads.

Would be better if he stopped using the outside of his foot so much, he has beautiful left foot too. But nobody in the AFL is better with the outside of the foot.

Put it this way. If Dusty had Pendlebury's brain we'd be talking about him on the same level as Ablett - and Martin only just turned 23.

Exactly right, he isn't even close to his prime age yet. Just on potential alone he is worth 500k, add on all of his match winning abilities and strength, I think he could easily attract in excess of 650k from other clubs (as long as he stays on the straight and narrow) but for us we would need to offer him at least 600k due to him loving the place IMO.

Totally agree with the left foot call, as I reckon it is better than his right. use it dusty, use it!!!!!!!!

The difference between dusty and the players I listed is that I've seen each of those players win a game due to their individual efforts/brilliance. Dusty is good but I struggle to recall games that have been solely influenced by him even in a great year personally for him like this year.

I remember Brisbane and North Melbourne games where he's kicked 5 and had 30 touches.

He was that good today! Consistency is very apparent this season, very rarely out of the bests. His value to this team is immeasurable.

The club made a great call in paying Martin below the Market price.... for a player that had a lot of off field risk.
The club now need to revisit that call. And amend his contract with Large bonus clauses in it... Just wack on 200K a season with certain performance triggers.

Agree. Revisit his contract end of season, straight after he wins the JD Medal.

One thing I will say aswell is he was really into it yesterday, everytime anyone kicked a goal he was first to get over to them. And towards the end it look like he was a seriously happy man to get the win. Seems more invested in the club now. Good to see

As Cotch said, he's really matured as a footballer. In previous years if he didn't start hot then you could basically count him out of the game in terms of impact, except for the occasional goal. This year a few times he's started slowly, but then worked his way into the game and become one of the best players on the ground. 8 out of the 16 games he's had more SC points in the second half (only stat I could find that recorded Quarter by Quarter) with a few others where it's almost about a 50/50 spread.

Dusty has put his money where his mouth is- signing a two year deal was a statement that he is worth more and if he could perform better he'd get a pay rise.

He is now comfortably our best player. I think next contracts negotiations will go for about 30 seconds.

Think Cotchin is still better, but not much in it. Dusty is better at creating scores and been better this year but not at 2012 Cotchin level which has been on show the last month with Miles helping him out. Rance is sitting just behind them.

Yeah I probably could be persuaded but I value Dusty's efficiency and explosiveness ahead of Cochin's amazing ball winning and consistency. Could also be that I'm a bit desensitized to Cochin's brilliance.

Anyway I reckon Dusty's overtaken him- but really just glad they are both on our side!

Miles allows Cotchin to be more attacking. Dustin is a freak. Rance is orgasmic. I love Jack. And Lids taking strong grabs and slotting goals from 50 is a sight for sore eyes.

Definately wait till the end of the season, after all the dramas of the offseason, for us to jump all over him mid way through a terrible season seems a bit desperate, the hit his ego would have taken knowing not one other club wanted him would have been one of them major reasons for this seasons turnarounds. Dont think we need to feed his ego by rushing in, giving him what he wants then risk him resting on his lorrels. Wont hurt us to do it early next season, if he truly wants to stay, then he'll stay, regardless of when we put a contract infront of him.

agree there, i wouldn't be signing anyone up during this season given the way it's gone
