You'd think that any player would look at the situation and say that while a premiership would be nice, having an extra couple of million dollars to invest is far more important.

No disrespect to Martin, but he will almost certainly never be in a position to earn this kind of money again in his life. You have to be sensible about it and not just factor in whether or not you will win a flag.

Plenty of players take unders to play in a premiership team (contender anyway - you never can tell). Also if he can add premiership player to Brownlow it might help him post career. Big call to win a premiership with a team that is just a contender, not a favourite. But GWS and Adelaide aren't putting up $1.5m per year.

Anyway, we'll see.

I don't claim to know and I'm not one of the pea brains that acts like they know better than 4 full time list managers with years worth of experience (not to mention the coach staff). Some in here wouldn't have any idea how to work a credit card let alone an entire list of players. But here we are...
So.... no?

So what are you basing your dismissal of their arguments on?

Maybe for the everyday lifestyle of the average person. Not for the lifestyle of a professional athlete who is earning a lot. They're not really comparable.

Really - surly he would have someone handling his fiances. He will be investing in houses and shares etc to ensure he is set for life.

I dont consider boyd a footballer.
Footballers usually play football.

I'm not writing goldy off at all, everyone at your club is though.
He's holding pruess back while collecting his 8-900k a year.

Oh and as for towelling up billy, that must have happened in the showers after the game i spose?
It certainly didn't happen on the field

Longer - 5 disposals 1 mark 33 hitouts 0 goals
Goldy - 15 disposals 7 marks 24 hit outs 1 goal

That's a hiding.

That full time professionals that manage the list of an AFL club know more about managing a salary cap than those who don't.

That those who know the contract status of an entire list know more than those who don't know anything other than contract length

That those who run an AFL clubs list know more than big footy posters. Posters that get their info from buffoons like sam mcclure and tony sheenan who have no idea and are purely throwing darts at a board.

So suggesting that offering a player 1.5 million will cripple a teams salary cap is pure guess work. Yes it is a forum so opinions are fine, but there is a difference between opinion and those that try and pass it off as fact.

Sooooooo

You don't know any better then those speculating therefore your derision of them speculating is based on the very thing your deriding them for doing?

Just clearing that up. :) Thanks.

Wow, you debate points at a 3rd grade level.

Poster A knows nothing vs. Poster B who know poster A knows nothing is different to:

Poster A knows nothing vs. 4x full time list managers that know their list inside and out.

Why do you keep bringing in list managers?

Where are they posting on the site?

You're mocking people who are making speculative posts based on your own speculations. Its hilarious. But keep spinning and trying to get away from the point.

You would think so but often it doesn't work like that.

There are plenty of stories of professional athletes in the US and in Soccer who earn 10 times the amount that Dusty might earn next year who go destitute after their career finished because their drop in wages post retirement can't match the lifestyle which they are used to and they've either made bad investments or no investments at all.

For the average person those wages would be excellent and naturally someone who does it tougher may be more frugal and careful with their spending. But the lifestyles of professional athletes and others in that wage bracket is in a completely different stratosphere.

I didn't make any speculations. I was criticising those that are accusing North of negligence and "stuffing up their cap for one player". That is a criticism of North's list managers.

That has nothing to do with me so I'm not sure where you got lost along the way.

Yes you did.

You're speculating their criticisms are wrong.

He's currently at Richmond so staying for a chance at a flag would be a bit funny.

Tom Harley has dismissed claims that the Sydney Swans are keen on Dustin Martin.

Reports emerged this week that the Swans were showing considerable interest in the Richmond superstar but Sydney’s Head of Football Harley has played down such suggestions.

Speaking on AFL Nation ahead of tonight’s clash with Hawthorn, Sydney’s next CEO said: “In regards to Dustin Martin, I can categorically deny that one.

“That’s scuttlebutt. He will not be playing with us next season.

We categorically denied the Buddy connection as well....

Off the field? It's not the 90s.

The only media attention I have seen about the Pies is about when will they sack Bucks. It's the only newsworthy story in 17.

Mayne trumps Anderson.

It matters post career but as noted elsewhere I don't see the pies as a destination club at the moment. I think Martin would be mad to leave Richmond for north because they are finals bound, have huge support and as a probable Brownlow medalist his future as a tiger gives him the gold ticket for life.

Swans are paying Buddy $1.4mill this year and next year and they've also signed all their stars to long term deals as well as re-signing Jones and Reid in the last couple of weeks.

On that basis North could well afford $1.5mill for Dusty as very few of their other players should be getting much, most certainly aren't in the same league as Kennedy, Parker, Hanneberry, Heeney etc

So if Dusty goes to North, it won't ruin their salary cap, they'll probably do like Swans and a few other teams and run with a main list of 38, not 40, that saves you a few $ to pay the Franklins and Martins.

I think he stays but if he leaves pick 16 wouldn't make many at Tigerland happy.

I think he goes. You can't ignore that type of offer if true. But, if he does accept, there's gonna be ramifications trying to keep your list together later on. It's a short sighted view (but that's only my opinion of course).

Never said I thought it would happen, but I floated it 'could' happen.

Then you said he's a free agent and that its not possible, I then proved to you that it absolutely is possible.

You tried to suggest I don't know the system and I quite clearly just proved it is you who has no idea.

The longer this drags on the more likely Dusty is going. If he does (I have no idea why he would by the way) there's every chance he's unhappy with something at Richmond, and that he gives his new club every chance to be successful via keeping their draft picks.

Again, your assertion is laughable.

They may have denied it but they didn't rule themselves out completely.

"He will not be playing with us next season.” Doesn't get more definite than that

What happens to players at big clubs after they finish? Mick Mcguane is a premiership player that had to coach Gisborne to earn a living. How good is Carey, Clarkson, Longmire and Simpson going?

This gold ticket for life you get from playing at a big club is a complete myth. For every big club player doing well in retirement I will give you one from a small club.

As is your knowledge of the free agency/draft systems.

At least what I have floated is possible, you've just embarrassed yourself by showing a complete lack of the rules and regulations.

These sky is falling posts are really funny. No one knows how we have structured our player payments. If we are in the game for both Dusty and Kelly we have a massive gap to fill. If GWS can manage their stable of stars I am sure we will be fine.

So losing Martin will not hurt the Tigers?

Of course it will. But not as much as paying the stupid sums north are offering would hurt.

It's bound to happen though, the money is the money, you can't exceed the cap. As young guys improve therefore improving the club performance the offers get larger. It's only logical if it happens to one club, it can happen to another.

While I agree with the gist of your post, Mick Mcguane? Really?
