If he goes to st kilda I dare say they will be glad to trade one of their firsts

He's a RFA dude

No trading needed

Tbh i think we are far more likely to get Dusty.
Kelly i hope so but could stay at GWS.

Strange. I reckon Kelly would be more suited to the Roos being 22 yrs old

It's not like they'll be playing finals in the near future and Dusty being 26 yrs old is and will be in his prime for probably only the next 3 to 4 years.

Yes you are probably correct.
I'd still love Dusty at the club though
I think we could push for finals sooner than ppl think.
Especially if we got a big fish.

We actually called our rebuild an aggressive reset rather than a Brisbane/Carlton esque rebuild.

Not really the thread for it but I think you are overestimating the strength of the competition and underestimating North's injury list. And probably totally ignoring our five defeats by less than a goal. Two of them by one point.

I think our biggest issue is class in the guts I also believe the club believes that. Hence the massive offers to Dusty & Kelly.

Martin would be nuts to leave Richmond;

- the club stuck by him with all his off-field flaws
- of all the suitors Richmond is the clearly the nearest to a premiership
- the club has a strong leadership group around him. Can you see Jack Steven or Jack Ziebell earning his respect as much as Cotchin or Rance?
- When he retires which coterie will afford him more financial opportunities? Seaford, Arden Street or Punt Road?
- And, if he stayed and delivered Punt Road a premiership he would go down as one of their greatest ever
- he may earn 200 or even 300 per year elsewhere, but his future earning capacity will be greater if he stays and delivers the tiger army a flag

All true, but gut feel says the latest offer is the tipping point.

Saints are focused on Kelly.
We have more cap space than anyone else.
Wouldn't bet on that. Especially now that Rooey has retired and if we don't offer Montagna a new contract (which we won't if we're able to jag both Kelly and Dusty).

Those two alone going off the books would free up close to a mil I imagine and we were still in the market for these big fish when both of those two could have been playing on.

(Earlier in the year the club said we had the cap space to go after two who were on $800K contracts (or more, so at least $1.6mil, and that was back when Roo and Joey could have been playing on).

Still awaiting on some 'proof' regarding this 'common knowledge'

Or are you just listening to the medias 'speculations'?
He was pretty bang on the money about Carlisle when everyone else thought he was off the Blues.

Not saying he's 100% accurate, but their is one example.

Few implies more than one. Who's the second and third at a minimum?

Vickery :D

Richmond would be in a position to ask for a draft pick rather than matching his price.

Compo for Dusty would be shite

I've posted this before, but the notion that Dustin is/was weighing up his decision on how the Tigers go this year is pure nonsense. Him and his team are motivated by money, plain and simple. He's already done this dance and shopped himself around, so the "Richmond stood by him through all his crap" means next to nothing too. The one that he should stay at a big club like Richmond for it's commercial/opportunity value to him beyond footy is even worse. Dustin has almost zero commercial value in almost all areas as he barely speaks to the media, has no form of education bar a PT course, has next to no profile apart from the tattoo'd guy from Richmond and to be blunt, is as dumb as dog shit. He at one stage was simply throwing mobile phones out when they stopped working (cut off) and went to other providers, more examples of this exist. The man has to be rationed money on an allowance even at this stage of his life.

Ralph Carr is doing precisely what Dustin needs in his life and that is to max out his value at practically the only thing he is good at, playing football. He will go where the biggest money is IMO and as far as I'm concerned, for someone like Martin, that is the very best decision.

Danger wanted to leave for personal reasons, even if the money was no different. If Dusty leaves it would solely be for the money, so if Richmond offered the same money as North he'd have no real reason to leave and would likely just accept our improved offer

How the feck can you lose, arguably the best or second best player in the league and only get pick 15 compensation is beyond ... Pick 19 for Buddy, pick 15 for Martin ... Pick 3 for Frawly surely shoes that system is not accurate.

I think it made some sense in the Buddy case and that proved to be right given Hawks won the next two flags anyway - ie the better you are the less you get.

Now the comp has equalised I think it is a brutal scenario for Richmond. They don't have the depth to cover his loss like the Hawks did. Maybe they pick a superstar out their ass with the compo pick and it is all ok. Or even better for them they use the cap space to lure Lynch. Otherwise they are getting reamed.

Maybe a good precursor to when all those GWS players are FAs.

Really enjoying reading more neutral supporters have their say in this thread instead of the North/Rich biased shitfight.

Carr can't guarantee him a flag but he can guarantee him millions of dollars

So many inaccuracies in here it's actually worth a repost for the laughs.
