We'd be crazy not to go after him, he's a lot better then Adams

Maybe something like: Shaw + Thomas compo (Pick 11) > Shiel + Pick 20

Because whoever did reported it as Adams was in the last stages of finalizing his GWS contract

Nope... Club has said today that Shiel is going nowhere.

Melbourne have said that they are "highly likely" to trade pick 2 for senior players, but that Heath Shaw probably won't end up there.
If we don't have enough currency to get pick 1 then it looks highly likely that only 1 of these two scenarios will occur:

Shaw to GWS for Taylor Adams

Shaw stays at Collingwood.

That's about all. I think the pies will keep pick 10 and 11 now.

From what i have seen, i have preferred Shiel's game than Adams to date.

Both would be good gets but i have been more impressed with Shiel in his 2 seasons thus far, stats or not.

We always knew that there would be some talented players looking to return to their home states from the expansion teams. I think it throws a new angle on the draft and trade period. The teams that best play this angle will have a big advantage on the other teams. That could be getting a talented player or shrewdly opting out and avoiding a bidding war. I would like to see us look at both Shiel and Adams who are both quality and who are available during a shallow draft year. Plus we have the players to deal it seems.
 
The fact that GWS have said he is contracted and required may not be a sign that he won't be traded but instead be playing a negotiation game so any club interested must offer something substantial.

If it is true that he wants to come home they may listen to offers however they seem to hold the power in negotiation as they can easily say no.

I don't think it likely however it still is a possibility

GWS have categorically ruled out trading Shiels, which tells me we would have to offer something too good to refuse to get him.

Might as well chase pick 1.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread I read it last night on the GWS board, saw it all over social media and it was mentioned on SEN this morning.. try reading the entire thread before you post. This forum is full of innuendo and speculation I read/ heard something from several different places that interested me as a Collingwood supporter so I posted it. I never said 'Shiel was coming to the pies on a 3 year deal worth $420,000 a season because my mate is mates with Shiel's dog and he told him so.. bookmark it'. Instead of crying a river over the fact that there is no specific source, just be bummbed that it's not happening because he would have been a good one for the pies to chase.

If it was a rumour with no decent source why didn't you just put in the "Rumour Thread" rather than starting a whole new thread

Listen mate, if its good enough to be mentioned on trade radio and SEN its good enough to start a thread on BF. I'm guessing that all you have been doing since you joined on Monday is cooking peoples heads over things of this nature. Maybe come back to me when you realise that there is very rarely any credibility linked with a lot of posts around this time of the year. The idea of him wanting to come home had to of started from somewhere as it has forced GWS to come out and say that he is a required player, which doesn't mean he isn't wanting to come home.
