Recommitted Dylan Stephens [re-signed for two years]

Still building from a very slim draft age frame. As mentioned above, Sydney wouldn't be worried about his progress and when compared to our other midfielders he's a point of difference.

We'd be pretty filthy to lose him. Should be worth a pick around 10 but out of contract it's probably 20ish.

If Adelaide did make a move and Stephens could be convinced to come, no doubt Adelaide's first (Currently pick 4) would be off the table, hard to imagine Adelaide being too keen on giving up a future first either when there's the potential to possibly go after Rankine or Lukosious end of 2022.

My guess would be Adelaide's next pick (Currently 23) with a swap of a later or future pick as a sweetener would be the offer.

Band 3 for crouch. Nah.

you guys haven’t learnt have you
What does that mean?

Do you genuinely think a 25 year old All Australian and B+F winning midfielder is LESS than band 3?

I think we'll see more players leaving after their first contract.

I'm surprised McAsey didn't, tbh.

Stephens is probably getting frustrated that he's doing a lot in the VFL and not getting games in a rebuilding side - but the Swans have just been a lot better than anyone thought.

He’s 26 and won his sole bnf and all-aus spot back in 2017.

He hasn’t been able to stay on the park for a full season since 2017 also. He’s generally considered a crab and no team supporter has ever worried about coming up against him.

Have you read what your own board thinks of him? Many of you recognise him for the stats padder he is and have wanted to trade him for ages. Your board isn’t just resigned to losing him in free agency, you’re openly hoping he leaves.

He would be useful to a team that needs a b-grade contested ball winner. I don’t think demand will be that high.

Why though after the bullshit last year of having crows fans flood every draft and trading thread with “but we will have pick X when we get this for Brad crouch” do we have to go through that again? We don’t need threads derailed by crows supporters fantasies.. again.

Mods could probably move all these posts (including the initial we are gonna have pick x because of Matt post) to the crouch thread where it belongs.

So, he was All Australian and B+F in a Grand Final year - you're right, that's worth adding.

Look, people shit on Crouch. But he was our best player the last half a dozen games last year, when our form turned around. He's a guaranteed 26+ possessions a game, and they had genuine impact once he started playing Nicks gameplan.

Personally, I think he stays. The chances of getting a player better than Crouch at his compo pick are tiny.

This probably needs a bit more context, seeing that section isn't knocking Matt Crouch at all.

A section is hoping Matt Crouch leaves (well, a section of which I'm the junior vice president of) purely because we're in a rebuild, and we've resigned Laird for 5 years. Purely, it's just a "let's not be stuck with two midfielders in their prime on long contracts" comment without any care factor to the player quality in question. Had we resigned Matt instead of Laird in March, the conversation would be the exact same, just with the names being switched with Laird being the one who should be let go. Being aggressive, rebuilding properly and all of that.

30+ disposal average between 17-19, 5 + clearance average, and a bit of butcher, so not too dissimilar to Adam Treloar. He'll find a home at 5-600k, and probably be ok to good value to whoever. The only risk is the injury he's picked up this year, and that could spook some teams.

I agree Matt Crouch would be around a band 3 contract. Just not sure who would be after him?

Edit: actually just ignore me, this is the Dylan Stephens thread. Let's talk about him instead

Hopefully a pick In the mid 20s

Was dropped last week for having an absolute shocker and a squiding to over head marks

The guy is tracking fine. He'll get bigger and better. Wouldn't want to lose him. Has to be worth a pick in the teens if he does want to go

I could see how you'd want that, but I don't think that's what the market will offer.

I think you'll get a second rounder, and that's probably about right for a players outside your best 22.

I understand that point but it just means we must back him in. We've invested too much to accept such a junk pick. He'd be worth the same in 2 years time and his ceiling is likely higher than who we'd draft at the pick

Of course - we were the same with McAsey. But the issue will be if he does not sign on, then it will be a pick that is less than his real value or Sydney could make a statement by telling him to go in the PSD and the horror of ending up at North might sway him to sign on with Sydney
