It was a great honour to play at the Northampton Football Club to rally around a community still recovering from the devastating impact of Cyclone Seroja.
April 30 marked a historic occasion for the town, hosting its first ever WAFL /WAFLW matches on the refurbished oval with sights set on a $40,000 fundraising target.
We are proud to say the event raised $100,000 for the community, more than doubling expectations!
This is the result of a huge collaborative effort between the AFL Rams Community Support Fund, Northampton Senior Football Club, Shire Of Northampton, the West Australian Football Commission and East Fremantle Football Club, with the organising committee pouring its heart and soul into making the event a success.
More inspiring still was seeing local clubs – from juniors to the Great Northern Football League – sharing the stage alongside the professional teams, with fans attending in droves to celebrate a love of footy and the Northampton community spirit.

The Sharks are immensely proud to have played a part in this significant fundraising effort and we can’t wait to see how these funds will be used to support the resilient Northampton community after an extremely difficult year,” said EFFC CEO Todd Shimmon.

“The atmosphere on the day was electric – it was a huge win for the community and grass roots football in the Mid West, opening the door to future opportunities.”

We extend our gratitude to the key sponsors who made the event possible; the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Rio Tinto & TMS Technical Maintenance and Support.

Good win by EF, despite the absence of their two key forwards in Marsh and O'Reilly. Good spread of goal kickers, though inaccuracy kept Perth in the game, should of won by more with a score of 13.20. Good to see Murdock back on the park, definitely missed last year, hopefully Schoenfeld when he returns can have the same impact as well.

Be surprised if Teakle gets a mid season gig, hopefully for his sake he gets a chance, kind of think Goddard is the number 1 ruck at EF, with Teakle using his greater athleticism to chop out and be used as a KPF.....

After swapping Shark Park for the Lillee-Marsh Stand, East Fremantle are coming in off the long run as they seek to turn their home away from home into a fortress.

The Sharks begin their two-year sojourn at the WACA Ground when they host Subiaco on Saturday in their first WAFL game at the venue the 1994 qualifying final against West Perth.

With East Fremantle Oval preparing to go renovations, the Sharks’ temporary stomping ground is a world away from their spiritual home - not just geographically, but also dimensions-wise.

While the ground’s grass banks have been excavated to lengthen the field of play for football, the WACA is roughly 25m shorter than Shark Park, but also approximately 20m wider.

However, East Fremantle captain Matthew Jupp said the squad was excited to play at the historic venue and they were confident of adapting to the size.

“It’s quite a small oval, but it’s really fast and hard and firm underfoot. I think when when grounds tend to be firm and hard underfoot, you usually see a fast-paced and vibrant game,” Jupp said.

“Shark Park is a massive venue and I think it’s the biggest in the competition, whereas the WACA will probably be the smallest ground in the competition. They’re poles apart in terms of ground dimensions, and we’re prepared for that.

“It’s only two or three kicks to go the length of field, as opposed to probably most other grounds where you need four or five, so that’ll be a huge change and I think it’ll suit the way we play.”

After a barren few years, East Fremantle have won four on the trot and occupy second spot on the ladder, but Jupp insisted there was no complacency within the team, pointing out all four of their wins had come against teams outside the top five.

“I certainly think the competition’s evened out this year, there’s no dominant team in the competition,” he said.

“You’d be silly to say you’re not buoyed by the fact that you’re sitting 4-1 on the table, but you have to quickly check yourself.

“We’re not putting a dampener on things. We are super pumped about the way we have started, but there’s plenty of room for improvement and we’re going to face some really tough opponents.”

One such tough opponent is a Subiaco side who have won two on the trot after a slow start to the season and Jupp was wary of the wounded Lions.

“I’ve been at the at the mercy of the dominant Subi teams for a lot of my career, so it’s not lost on me that while we may be sitting ahead of them on the ladder, that doesn’t take away from the fact they are a super strong outfit,” he said.

Lester-smith out with COVID, sadly Baskerville had done his shoulder v Perth last week, out for a month at least. Great win, definitely great to see EF continue on with their good footy and win the game in a canter.

Great for Teakle....not so EF....lot of pressure on Goddard to stay fit....got nothing else in the cupboard ruck wise.....McGuire perhaps....but geez 3 talls taken in the space of 8 weeks with no compensation at all....gonna bite at some point for EF....

Close but no cigar, great game of footy and a great advertisement for the comp. Kudos to SF for fighting back after half time....EF had their chances but in the end fell short. TBH EF did well considering a few key players were out.....

I think you will probably see at the selection table this week, who came up short in the derby. Baskerville I think is a few weeks away, agree about Gorringe and hopefully English is back....not too sure about O'Reilly ongoing back issues....whilst Schoenfeld keeps extending his injury return....currently at 2 weeks away....

Yeah definitely thin on the ruckman front....it's amazing to think Goddard was reluctant to come to EF initially because he didn't want to be in a queue of rucks.....now he is the only senior one at the club. McGuire and Bailey can pinch hit, but if Goddard goes down then that will be blow. Losing Strnadica and Dixon last minute hurt, but losing Teakle in the MSD was the killer....more so if all 3 spend the rest on the season playing in the WAFL and SANFL.....

Saw a bit of last night's game. Teakle could be in for Port soon
