Great win by EF considering the players they have lost during the season.....besides that 2nd quarter fade out, EF outpointed their more fancied rivals, with inaccuracy allowing Peel to stay in touch.....11 more scoring shots for an 11 pt win, sums up EF nearly shot themselves in the foot.

Boekhorst and Murdock keep on keeping on, both are easily Lynn Medal top two.....the skipper keeping the dangerous ex EP forward quiet, whilst Aiken-Featherstone put the clamp on Tucker after half time. With Marsh kicking 2.3, good to see Jansen come to the party with his 3.2.....EF will need to keep finding different goal kickers each week, though heard that Bonomelli has gone to EP, with Eddie Simpson(199cm) coming in return.....hopefully.... I see Bonomelli is already on EP list, though Simpson not on EF as yet.

After the bye, Schoenfeld and Baskerville should be back, hopefully Smith is back....sadly Leggett is gone for the year with a nasty hammy tear.....geez isn't Goddard a god send....gave as good as he got v Meek....
Hello Freeze, finally found a place where being honest might not get me into much trouble, (oh I am still Grumpy but trying to be nicer) as for Simpson I am sorry but unless Monaghan is a great coach getting much out of him will be bloody hard work.

Gday Grump, great to have your input mate....I value your opinion mate, not even sure the swap has even happen....but with O'Reilly indefinite, no Teakle, Strnadica or Dixon....anyone over 196cm will be warmly welcomed in that EF forward line...though from memory Eddie has kicked a few v EF in the past....who knows....

East Fremantle veteran Sharon Wong will carry the title of being the league’s best player into Saturday’s WAFLW grand final after being crowned the 2022 Dhara Kerr medallist on Monday night.

Runner-up last season on 14 votes, Wong surged to the top of the leaderboard this year to claim her maiden league fairest and best.

Wong finished on 18 votes, four votes ahead of East Fremantle Ashleigh Gomes and reigning Dhara Kerr medallist Ella Smith who finished equal-second on 14 votes.

The undefeated Sharks dominated proceedings, taking out two other major awards.

First-year coach Matt Templeton was named the WAFLW Coach of the Year and Port Adelaide AFLW signing Julia Teakle won the Cath Boyce Rookie of the Year award after kicking 26 goals in her debut season.

Looks like you gave us two players for Simpson, Bonomelli and Davidson both similar in statistical value as Simpson.

Congrats to the skipper on his achievement, not many folk last long enough to play 150 WAFL games these days sadly. A true stalwart of the EFFC.

One played as a Key forward the other as a key back.....Davidson definitely talented just injury prone, son of ex EF premiership player Jeff Davidson.....Collie boy, so good to see him having another crack...and at EP. Good luck to both.....

WAFL Team of the Week – Round 10Tuesday, June 28, 2022 - 4:05 PM - by Chris Pike

HALF-BACK FLANK – RYAN LESTER-SMITH (East Fremantle)
It has been quite the remarkable resurgence as he continues to be a standout performer for the Sharks whether running off half-back or from the wing where he's using his running and kicking ability to aplomb. The 127-game veteran broke through the 20-possession barrier on Saturday for the first time since Round 15 last year and ended the win against Peel with 23 touches, nine inside 50s, seven marks, four tackles and a goal.

CENTRE – MILAN MURDOCK (East Fremantle)
He is becoming quite the crucial and consistent member of the East Fremantle midfield particularly holding down the fort in the absence of Kyle Baskerville and Josh Schoenfeld. Showing his equally important ability to win his own ball and apply great pressure, he finished Saturday's win over Peel with 29 touches, 12 tackles and four marks in his 38th career game.

HALF-FORWARD FLANK – BLAINE BOEKHORST (East Fremantle)
Playing his 50th game for East Fremantle and 94th overall in the WAFL to go with his 25 in the AFL with Carlton, never has he been in more damaging and consistent form than right now. Critical member of the East Fremantle team with the way he can run and carry the ball, and use it in such damaging fashion. Racked up 40 touches against Peel at the WACA Ground to go with 10 tackles, eight inside 50s, seven marks and a goal

FORWARD POCKET – JARRAD JANSEN (East Fremantle)
Has spent the majority of his 66-game WAFL career as a big-bodied midfielder, but given how decimated the East Fremantle forward-line has become without Dillon O'Reilly, Brynn Teakle, Cody Leggett, Hugh Dixon and Luke Strnadica on Saturday who they all envisioned being there coming into 2022, he was thrown forward on Saturday and came up huge. Kicked three crucial and clever goals to go with 14 touches and six kicks.

UNLUCKY BUNCH

There were plenty of players who delivered tremendous performances across Round 10 but couldn’t quite fit into the Team of the Round, including:

East Fremantle's Luke English and Michael Tassone.

Cheers mate, though he is still sitting on EP playing list at 41.....bit so is Simpson at 33....so who knows what is the deal here.....if any?

East Fremantle are pleased to announce the signing of Eddie Simpson for the 2022 WAFL Season.

Originally from the Swanbourne JFC, Eddie joins East Fremantle from the East Perth Football Club in a straight swap for Nic Bonomelli and Cam Davidson. Simpson has played 53 WAFL games for Claremont and the Royals in the WAFL, leading the goal-kicking for East Perth in 2020 and 2021.

The 199cm marking key forward offers Bill Monaghan and coaching staff another tall option up forward following the loss of Brynn Teakle in the mid-season AFL draft and long term injury of Cody Leggett. He can also provide ruck support for Jeremy Goddard and Reuben McGuire.

Simpson, who began training with the team late last week, is excited about the opportunity to join the Sharks.

“Watching from a distance, the Sharks have been building over the past few seasons and have played some great football this season. They have the ability to score quickly and that’s certainly exciting as a forward.”
“I feel like I’m more useful down forward and I feel like it’s better for the team when I’m down there playing that role.

“I think that my strength is in contested marking, being able to make a contest and bring the ball to ground for our smaller forwards

There is also a link to the Sharks through the late Percy Johnson.

“I did a lot or work with Percy during my time at Claremont and I reckon he would’ve been pretty excited that I was donning the Blue and White. I’m looking forward to coming in and providing a strong marking option who finished off his work. I’m a pretty approachable person and I’m looking at earning the trust of the coaches, staff and team mates and contributing to the season positively”.

Eddie Simpson will be available to play in our next clash with Subiaco at Leederville on July 9th

Nice work by the club to be able to find a replacement for our dwindling supply of KPFs

Touch wood the Simpson signing is as astute as the Goddard signing. Even having another tall option up forward, might free up Marsh to come up the ground more. Looks like O'Reilly is listed as 5 weeks away....so getting Simpson on board may help get EF through that period...

Good luck to the EF ladies as well in the GF this weekend....getting all 3 grades through is a fantastic achievement.....

MID SEASON REPORT WITH FOOTBALL MANAGER BRAD DODD

June 30 has ticked over and the club has managed to add some late additions to the squad in Kyle White and Eddie Simpson. Tell us a little about them and how the moves came about?

BD: It’s well known that our big man department took a bit of a hit, and when Brynn Teakle was drafted to Port Adelaide we felt we needed reinforcements.

We looked high and low for players we thought could provide some cover for Jeremy Goddard and Reuben McGuire and were lucky enough to bring in Kyle and Eddie. Kyle is a developing ruckman, who will get plenty of opportunities to lead the ruck in the Reserves. He had stagnated at Peel and was looking for a fresh start. He is a more long term prospect but he’s settled in really well. He still has some way to go but has impressed with his competitiveness so far.

The opportunity to add Eddie came about through some open dialogue with East Perth. They were also keen to add some players and had spoken to a couple of our listed players in Nic Bonomelli and Cam Davidson. Once they were keen to explore their opportunities at the Royals, we asked the question about Eddie and the deal was done pretty quickly. Eddie has fitted in really well and will add a different look to our forward line.

Can't remember the last time EF had 3 consecutive wins v Subi.....surely not since the early 80s? Good chance key mids in Baskerville & Schoenfeld are back, not sure who makes way though after that Peel win. Leederville doesn't handle the wet too well from memory, so will be a bit of a slog if the wet weather sets in.

Reckon Simpson may have to kick a few in the reserves before getting his EF league debut, hasn't been setting the world on fire at EP before his tsf.....would like to see Cody Smith come back in, he is a big body 193 cm sort, like Jansen, who could help Jono Marsh up front....Subi themselves might get a few handy sorts back in Braut and Harry Marsh....EF defence need to keep a close rein on the likes of Matera, Sokol and Borchet on Sat...all 3 know where the goals are.

East Fremantle is the most potent team in the competition over the first 10 rounds having averaged 92.8 points a game. They are ranked fifth defensively at 75.3 points.

Subiaco is ranked eighth both in attack and defence having scored just 69.4 points a game while conceding 79.2.

East Fremantle is the second best ball winning team with 347 possessions a game while they concede the fewest against them at 296. Subiaco, meanwhile, gathered just 309 touches themselves and gives up the most at 342.

East Fremantle has generally been better early in games as the second best first quarter team outscoring their opposition by 94 points. They ranked fourth in second quarters and third for third terms, but they struggle in last quarters having been outscored by 38 points.

Subiaco also starts well ranked third in first quarters outscoring their opponents by 45 points but then they are ranked eighth in both second and third terms, and seventh in fourth quarters.

Fast start in the first definitely helped EF build a match winning lead, then the rain set in and the hard slog began. Think the rain kept the losing margin respectable for Subi, good spread of goalkickers again.

Boekhorst keeps his stellar season going, definitely a smokey for the Sandover I reckon. Juppy and his defence once again stayed tight, whilst the return of Baskerville and Schoenfeld to the midfield, definitely gives EF variety and quality around the ground.

Great Naidoc jumper design by Reuben McGuire and kicking 2 goals helped cap off a stellar day for the young fella.

Round 12

PLAYER OF THE ROUND – BLAINE BOEKHORST (EAST FREMANTLE)

He is 95 games into his WAFL career and playing the best football of his life as he chases some elusive success with Blaine Boekhorst delivering another best on ground performance for East Fremantle on Saturday.

East Fremantle has had plenty of obstacles thrown in their way so far in 2022 with the loss of Tom Joyce, Hugh Dixon and Luke Strnadica before the season even started, then losing Brynn Teakle in the mid-season draft and they've had plenty of injuries to deal with on top of that.

Despite that, this East Fremantle team of 2022 wasn’t going to let any obstacles given them excuses for another down season.

Clearly tired of struggling having not played finals since 2014, with coach Bill Monaghan leading the charge, the group of experienced players remained are largely in career-best form with a good batch of emerging players beneath them, and Boekhorst is a shining example.

He's not shy on experience having played 44 matches with Swan Districts before being drafted to Carlton at the end of 2014 to end up playing 25 AFL matches over the next three seasons.

Upon returning to Western Australia, he joined East Fremantle but his 2018 season was over before it started when he ruptured his ACL and required a knee reconstruction.

He returned in 2019 and has played some good football since including a standout 2021 season which saw him named to the WAFL Team of the Year, and he's gone up another level again in 2022.

Whether it's him who is a big reason for East Fremantle's rise or playing in a better team is helping bring out the best of him, whatever the case but he is in a brilliant vein of form and he could very well be the most damaging player in the WAFL right now.

His outside game has always been his strong suit with his ability to run and carry the ball, and to also use his long-kicking skills to a treat, but he's also winning plenty of his own ball so far this season.

He continued his brilliant form with another best on ground performance on Saturday in East Fremantle's win against Subiaco with 37 possessions, seven inside-50 entries, four marks and two tackles.

More importantly for Boekhorst, he's helping the Sharks sit in second position on the WAFL ladder after 12 rounds as he attempts to play finals this year for just the second time in his career. His only other WAFL final was a first semi-final loss to East Perth when at Swan Districts back in 2013.

Definitely a smokey for the Sandover.....Boehorst, Murdock and Eardley would be top 3 in the Lynn Medal right now, with skipper not too far behind them.

Another good spread of goal kickers, this time Cody Smith leading the way. Another 4 points banked with some percentage. Though kicking 1.7 in the 3rd, definitely prevented EF from winning by 15 goals.....

Touch wood Baskerville and Murdock are back for the derby, definitely will need them and big Jono Marsh firing too.....been a quiet few weeks for the fella in front of goals...

The Sharks notched up another percentage-boosting win over West Coast on Saturday, defeating the Eagles by 62 points at Mineral Resources Park.

“It’s always nice to win by a fair margin, especially at the pointy end of the season,” Boekhorst said.

“Getting towards finals, it’s pretty close, the top five. So every little bit helps.”

Boekhorst, who stepped up with 33 disposals after the side lost key midfielders Milan Murdock and Kyle Baskerville to illness, said it was a testament to the Sharks’ improved depth that the unit performed well in their absences.

“That’s something we’ve struggled with over the last three years but we’ve recruited well, we’ve got more experienced players now coming through the midfield, so our mix is quite deep through there,” he said.

“We can fill holes now when we’ve got injuries or illness, so it’s going great for us.”

East Fremantle could be without Jeremy Goddard after the ruckman was reported for striking West Coast’s Greg Clark, with the Eagles midfielder forced off the ground with a broken nose after an incident in the third quarter.
