Lately I find myself going out for dinner or lunches alot more with friends and family, more often then not at a local Pub/Tavern, as opposed to a fancy restaurant or cafe. I quite enjoy what most local taverns have to offer, as their prices are generally reasonable and you get a decent feed for it.

So I ask, who here regularly dines out? And do you prefer fancy restaurant/cafe or a local pub/tavern/bar? Maybe you prefer a home cooked meal.

I tend to avoid steaks whenever I go out as well, as they never cook it the way I order it, and I never order the daily special - it's the daily special for a reason.

Nothing better then a Parma when out at a pub for a gathering.

Otherwise, home cooked meals are the bomb. 'Fancy' restaurants and their inflated prices can get well & truly.

Ask me this when I'm at home with my parents, and I'd be torn.

Ask me the majority of the year when I'm living away from home, and it's definitely going out.

Perth is pretty expensive in terms of meals, as well. But this thread has made me hungry enough to kill a schooner and parma.

Depends on the pub. I’ve had some ****in horrid pub meals... far, far worse than the worst restaurant meals I’ve had. Some of them are cheap for a reason. Half-inch thick steak cooked to with an inch of its life... or a parma that consists of a frozen home brand schnitzel with burnt plastic cheese and bolognaise sauce.

But plenty of pubs are pretty good. Best place to eat if you’re genuinely hungry and want a big feed, pretty rare you get a small pub meal.

I’ve been to some expensive restaurants that have well and truly been worth it (and some that weren’t)... you can get a very good feed. I think the mistake many people make is they go along hungry and can’t see past that... they wolf down the meal (which is generally small) without enjoying it and then just whinge how hungry they still are.

If I’m going to an expensive restaurant, I never go along hungry (unless I know it’s going to be a big meal). They’re generally of quality, not quantity. If you’re not starving you can relax and enjoy it, often it’ll be really good, some restaurants have great reputations for a reason.
