Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

Where there banners that the teams ran through? What did the menus etc. look like?
Nah no banners. We were only playing single games so I can't speak for anything included in career mode. Once you selected teams and your kits, it went straight to the coin toss.

Menus were superb, as i said previous, pure eye candy, a lot better then FIFA IMO

Thanks, in AFL 2007 and other titles, the only way to kick the ball was forward and about 50m long, it was terrible unrealistic, is this different? How many possessions did it usually take until a score was achieved?

Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

i got 3 Questions.. sorry bout so many lol..

1) Was it clean, like no glitches that would effect the pace or vision of the game?

2) Was there a moment in the game that you are gonna dwell on like an amazing goal or mark or play until you actually get the game?

3) Was there at any point where you got frustrated with anything and wanted to rage quit?

1) I didn't pick up on many glitches. As a gamer i was actually looking for them. Big Ant have done a pretty good job to the put where I didn't notice anything, well nothing effecting the gameplay anyway

2) I was a pretty poor goalkicker on the run. I was playing a guy who was Carlton and at quarter time i was 2. 7 or something. Need to improve that i dare say. Took a couple of awesome speckies though with Lonergan and Welsh :)

3) Being pretty new to the controls everyone was pretty crap at the game. So everyone was having good fun and not getting frustrated. Once you master the controls the game will play very smooth.

Sorry got 2 more questions, one being about essendon..

1) Even though i'm a geelong supporter, i really like Michael Hurley, How is he in game?

2) Do you think being a major AFL fan to the point you live and breath it will give you an upperhand comparing to someone who supports a team but on the occasion watchs 1 or 2 games?

Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

Sounds great Espe :thumbsu:

My only concern is I've read a few reports of '60 metre torpedoes on the run', and I'm a little worried that this is too common??

Nah kicking is a lot more fun. At the start I kicking all over the place, but once I sorta got the hang of it I was nailing my team mates on the chest and also (which i loved) on the LEAD!. It's soooooort of like FIFA where the power you choose will reflect which player it goes to, also which way you point your stick.

Gone are the days where you simply grab the ball and boot it as hard as you can into your forward line. You really had to work it out of the middle. As i was playing Essendon I tried to use their speed which was fun. So i was playing a lot of link up handballs to move the ball forward.

Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

Did ya see who the highest rated Essendon player was?
Im guessing watson?
And if you did see some ratings, did any surprise you? eg. someone higher then you thought or lower.

Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

Could you tell who most of the players were while playing the game?

Not particularly with the default camera angle, but I guess it really depends on the player. I have pretty terrible vision but I was still able to spot Dale Thomas from a fair distance back. They're definitely recognizable when the camera gets a little closer to the action.

Yeah that is worrying, you don't see many torps at all these days.

Cut scenes, where there many of them? And when where they?

1 ) Kicked one goal with Hurley. Honestly didn't notice him that much as most of our games were midfield battles until we got the hang of it.

2) Yeh definetly. I can't wait to jump online and absolutely own some kid from New South Wales who has no idea what he's doing. We didn't see much of the custom tactics, but even in general play you will have the upper hand.

Sounds great Espe :thumbsu:

I didn't try any on the run. Tried a few from outside 50. Got one in, hit the post with another, and my third was an absolute shank.

Yeah i'm half and half worried about the torps, i just hope they aren't very accurate, mind you i like the idea, but if its easy to hit the goals from 60 on the run, then there is some worries.

Only cut scenes were when you scored, which showed the umpire and a replay of the goal from a few angles.

Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

Most of the ruck contests were hilarious as some people had no idea what they were doing.. the ball would just hit the deck as the players looked on. You basically just use the right analog stick at the balls highest point.

Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

I got more questions for you espe, seens as no one esle is asking and i want to know more lol...

1) Did you see anything about the create a team option? like salary cap? Jumper designs? anything?

2) People are talking about the controls to master, on fifa the skills i found were hard to get the hang of, probably because i barely know anything about fifa, but will blind turns, dummies, and other evasion skills be hard to master?

3) Did players have special abilities like in the past AFL games?

4) When selecting the jumpers was it just home and away or was there clash, and past jumpers?

5) Dunno if you watched anyone else play but did you see anyone play as geelong? and if so how do they look in game? seens as the last AFL game was just before the geelong era and this is just at the end of it?

Haha, no worries, fire away!

1) We didn't go into any game modes other then single game.

2) Controls won't be too hard to master, but I'm pretty good at combinations at FIFA so it could be hard for others. Big Ant have done a good job though of making the buttons pretty logical on the controller

3) Not sure what you mean by special abilities. Didn't notice any. Just the usual such as some players were quick, like Davey, some were hard to tackle, Judd, and some were awesome at marking, Riewoldt. That's what i noticed anyway.

4) When selecting jumpers you can choose from:
- Home
- Away
- Clash
- Heritage

5) Didn't see Geelong play. I saw Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton, Melbourne, Hawthorn, St Kilda, Brisbane, Richmond, Gold Coast, Bulldogs.

Hey Espe any chance to get an answer for this mate

Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

Okay.

1) You seen hawthorn (my 2nd favourite team) play got some players i want to hear about..
i) Luke Hodge
ii) Buddy Franklin
iii) Cyril Rioli

2) Seeing as you played against most of the power forwards, which of them do you think would be the best to have in your team?
Nick Riewoldt, Buddy Franklin, Jack Riewoldt, and cant remember if you played brisbane but if you did, Jonathan Brown?

Didn't get to see player ratings. I know some of the other guys were looking through a few teams but I was more interested in the gameplay. I'd assume Watson is our best, played well for me ;) I was dominating with Davey and Monfries up forward however!

1) Didn't see Hodge, but i saw Rioli and Franklin. Both looked awesome. There was one point where this guy made a turnover coming out of his back 50 and Rioli swooped on it and kicked a goal, looked good!

2) Notcied Riewoldt alot. I was playing every game as Essendon, and I was getting the hang of the game after a while so the ball was mainly at my end, so I noticed Gumbleton more out of anyone else.

I only saw a few rating but Didak was 90 when Dane Swan was only 91, while i think Steele was in the 60s, which was generally used for first years.
Judd was 94 and Andy said something about him being the second best player
Team ratings are done the same as fifa with a star ratings and Collingwood, the Dogs and the a couple other were top at 4 1/2 while i think GC were he only 2 1/2

the game was bloody great though, a lot faster than expected.
we played 3 minutes quarters, and the scores and possesions were pretty low as in 40 - 35 or something with leading possession getter around 10, but i think with 5 min quarters and a bit more skill it will work fine.
Ross' son was trying to explain kick modifiers to us but really i didn't get round to any other than the set shot torp.
Doesn't have constant animations like old games either, there was a couple times i would try and snap the ball forward only to get tackled charging it up.
Great game though, you won't be disappointed

Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

Okay so i've asked this once but if anyone does look, how is geelong's rating, given the fact they were in 3 of the last 4 GF's and was 1 match off being in last years?

I 'THINK' I saw you guys as 4 and a half. Could be wrong, it might of been 5.

Only others i noticed were Essendon (3 and a half) Carlton (4) Collingwood (5) and Gold Coast (2 and a half)

Should of payed more attention to the ratings...

Re: EB Games - AFL Live demonstration dates and discussion

So I'm now home from Chadstone, I had a few games using Swans, Hawks and the Dees.
The game was very impressive everything flowed really well the ruck contests were done well and it was all down to the timing of your actions.

Goal kicking was one of the most impressive things for me there were some really good goals scored today I remember some guy kicked a beauty banana goal from the boundary.

Also a very big thank to Ross, Andy and the other three guys that were there I had a good chat to everyone and was very glad you guys shared some good insights into the game.
