Ed Barlow could be our next KPD

The Swans have just delisted Ed Barlow. Barlow is 196cm and nearly 100kg.

I've seen Barlow play, he's strong, athletic and has a good footy brain. He simply lacks confidence because of a lack of game time.

He's a Melbourne boy, so i assume he would be happy to come home.

What do you think about picking him up in the pre season draft?

I strongly believe he could be a KPD

The hope is we'll draft several 18 year old 192cm+ players to replace Thornton, o'hAilpin and Fisher.

In the meantime, should they reform a discard such as Barlow or Spangher, or have faith in Austin? The other possibility is to grab a mature defender from the lesser leagues, as Fremantle did with A Silvagni.

If you've ever seen him play, you'd have realized 2 main things about Barlow:

1) He most definitely is not a key position defender. Yes, he's tall - but he's a utility. More a (very) poor man's Brennan than a KPD.
2) He's no good, and that's putting it lightly.

For those 2 reasons alone, if we go anywhere near him I'll be very disappointed.

also i know sydney didnt play him as a kpd, but that doesnt mean he couldnt be one. He's definitely got the body for it and his athletism is impressive. I dont know why everyone posting on this thread is so anti trying something a bit new.
IMO he would give a great deal of drive out of the backline.
He could be the big body we need

Agreed. Oversized athlete with no real football ability or instinct.

Besides, the Swans had a real issue with the KPDs this year (particularly after Bolton went down) and i don't recall them even giving Barlow a game let alone testing out any possible KPD credentials.

Carlton were very keen on Barlow in last years trade period so I would not be at all surprised to see him join in preseason training with the hope of being drafted as a mature age rookie

Hehehe. LRT is criminally underated, but I suppose that's not important. Yes he is worse than LRT and I would rather Henry Playfair than Ed Barlow and the coaches agree because Hank played many more games than Cheese.
