EDFL Div 1 Discussion 2025

Game deemed a draw as it was before half time. Game had not long started in this case. Fiery start to the game young lads being exactly that and a few scuffles had broken out. Absolutely nothing to warrant a parent running on the field! After being screamed at by many to get off the field the woman jumped straight in her car and fled the scene.
Ummm fiery start and game not long started doesn’t sound great does it? Once again I say who encourages this stuff. Pull it up early and coaches/runners must act to defuse the situation even if it means dragging kids.
I assume both clubs will get fined and final warnings as per league protocols.

Why would Craigieburn get same penalty as Oak Park? Think this is 3rd time Oak Parks crowds have been involved in on field scuffles.

Unless the club has evidence they were in no way at fault at challenge it then both clubs get fined and put on a final warning when games are called off.
When were the other times OP were involved in melees as they would usually be fined for melees mate?

I was told that a Craigieburn player was reported twice from the melee and a different player was sent off earlier.

It’s a melee both at fault

Not this season, but the woman’s finals. And pretty sure they had a thirds game called off a few years back. Where the club umpire was attacked.

So now it’s making some sense as probably the reason the mum stepped onto the field. Gee it would be good to get the whole story as unlike a mum to just run on due to a bit of push & shove.

That’s a lot of issues and didn’t the original poster say it was only early into the game. Not great..

The umpires are there to umpire the game of footy and adjudicate on decisions NOT there to break up melees and supervise off the ball due to idiots playing for the wrong reasons and officials not taking action to rectify the situation..

More info coming through - 2 x Craigieburn boys were Red carded, 1 was Yellow carded.
It’s unacceptable behaviour to start with but of all the rounds… if the club is serious they should sanction those boys ontop of the EDFL

Can’t wait to hear the response from Pesutto & PortVic.
Pat Cronin stop the coward punch round..

If them details are correct then yes they do deserve a fine. The majority of them CB boys would have sat through the Pat Cronin presentation last season, so the message hasn’t got through. Can’t be as much as the Hillside vs St Albans fine's.

No definitely not that much, but usually games called off attract a set fine for each club and final warning if I’m correct. Unfortunately just another incident for the EDFL which must be a concern.

Let’s move on

Some interesting results on the weekend

Taylors Lakes only going down by 19 points to St Albans
Hillside and TM back on the winners list
CB upsetting OP

Wide open division this year anyone can beat any on their day

Yes , Very even comp , any team would think they'd be a chance each week. Is there a club capable of going up and being competitive in Premier? In reality, apart from the joy of winning a flag and celebrating for a few days, I'd think only 1 club would want to win it and go up to Premier next season(St Albans), and I'd reckon they'd struggle but at least they are set up(facilities, strong off field support). others:
WC - Just not up to competing in Premier
Oak Park - no where near the playing list to compete in Premier
TL, Avo, Crazy, Tulla - Happy to compete in Div 1 at the moment, they know they are miles off Premier but understand that and plan on building over the next 2-4 years.
Roxy , MV - Busy holding onto Div 1 spot

Div 1 has been and continues to be the best Div in the EDFL

They should put St Alban straight up now. Free hit as no relegation and move EK down. St Albans the only club than can compete in Premier from all above due to their set up with Pokies etc

EK did, so why not
EK finished on top when the season was called. You are delusional if you think anyone at St Albans would want to be promoted now and not take their shot at a flag. It’s a ridiculous conversation. EK need to sort their sh1t out and cop their hard times, couldn’t shut them up on here a few years ago!

Well said

Let’s keep the EK sh*t on the premier division forum

I would say your not giving some of the other teams in DIV1 any credit, remember WC were undefeated last year and have been a tip for many to win the GF and then they don't, St Albans could falter on the big day!

Agree, Saints were just used as an example. Division is wide open, should be a good finals series. Will be won by the team who hits best form and has luck with injuries. Relegation battle is interesting too, great division

Don't get me wrong , I think any of about 5 teams could win the Flag this season. My point is no club is ready for Premier(other than possibly St Albans) who would struggle to be competitive but at least they are strong off field and have good facilities.

Fair points you make plus the recruitment of Townsend and the Port listed player probably shows they could have a plan for the future. To my knowledge no other club has recruited players of this calibre or the odd vfl aligned player. The issue with St Albans is they predominantly don’t have strong juniors due to demographics so will need to have a strategy for that. I also think clubs being promoted should have 50 points like what occurred in the WRFL to give them options to recruit an extra player. However they do have strong support and excellent off field facilities.
They probably need to follow the keilor/EDFL model and appoint an off field person to scope the juniors in the area and try and recruit them over 🤫 but that’s a 3-4 year plan. But from past experiences they have the funds and facilities to do it.
