Boys from West Coburg just to strong on the day. They had bigger bodies around the ball and just used it better when in possession and played the ground better.

Abers did have a lot more scoring shots however West Coburg was clearly the best side on the day. Abers very wasteful in the first and third quarters only scoring 1 goal which did not help the cause!!

For Abers Fitzpatrick, Mckee, Van Reit and Egan were good and for West Coburg big Hakim was great along with Kaakour and Power.

Agree that West Coburg were stronger around the footy and were clearly the better side. Abers got a few late to make it closer than it seemed.

Apart from McKee and maybe no.18 (who got a bit of it early) I thought Abers struggled. Not sure if Fitzpatrick was much good (was he no.2??) played 5 good minutes in last quarter and the same with Egan.

Abers came back a couple of times in a good game but West Coburg answered each time in an all round good team effort.

Number 18 is Adam Jacobs who kicked the winning goal in the Reserves match. Did you mean No.16 Adrian Romanyk (the red head)?

He isnt listed in the record as his real number is No.9 which is a duplicate that he wears in the two's. If he plays seniors he has to wear the alternate number to Assistant Coach Marcus Barham who is also No.9

Doutta marby game was scrappy early with both sides missing many opportunities.
Marby had the game in there keeping but doutta stepped up a gear and should of overran them in the end but marby held on.
Interesting final 5 seconds to the match which looked to be a free to a young stars forward 30 from goal, the umpire didn't see it or no guts to pay it close to goal, the ball was picked up and snapped for a goal but a second to late as the siren rang.
So close yet so far douttas.
Not great conditions meant for some bad skills, both sides need to improve going forward.
Some after game nonsense but that's local football, players happy to exchange hand shakes.

Great to hear West Coburg had a good win against Aberfeldie. Would love some feedback on the game from West or Aber supporters.

GO BURGERS!

Disappointing to hear that there was another racist taunt directed to an Abers player from the WC supporters this time...that's 2 weeks in a row! I'd love to see other EDFL people especially West Coburg and Craigieburn people come on here and absolutely condemn that sort of bullshit.
And to be fair, as an Aberfeldie supporter i was disappointed to hear a couple of racist things said from our supporters directed at Hoachur? I'd like to know what the EDFL has in place to stop racism b/c it really does make you feel sick to know that this sort of thing is still goes on.

West Coburg deserved the win, really disciplined on that rectangular dust bowl and used Hakim really well. Abers lacked big bodies and i don't think we actually held a tackle all day - not 1 holding the ball from memory. Disappointed to see one West Cobrug player kick out at other players and punch his opponent in the balls sevral times, anyone else see that shit. Not to mention driving the knees into opponents backs. Umpires needed to gain control! The same abers player got punched by no.16 and he didn;t even get reported!

Didn't hear any racist remarks from west coburg supporters but heard plenty of whingeing from abers crowd and some derogatory remarks directed at rabee. No place for racism in football anymore. Wasn't much in the other issues just a bit of niggle from where i was sitting (misdirected passion perhaps but nothing too nasty)

What an interesting Round.
Firstly, I was at the game. Unfortunately, I heard a few Wrong remarks from supporters from both clubs. Not good and it is not fair to both Abers or West Coburg that all their supporters should be judged by these few idiots. The days of crowd racism in our Comp should be a distant memory. It is "unacceptable" from uneducated idiots.
West Coburg were just to physical for our boys, but got a way with a lot of behind the play incidents. The umps just don't pick up enough. Credit must go to Kakoor who carved us, Haoucher and Hakim who kicked 9.

Doutta's seem to be the real deal with another great performance. Must of been a cracker against Marbo. Brodie Holland has been canned on here, but I think people must realise that these guy's coming from AFL just get scragged, hit all day, every game and eventually might crack to protect himself. Against us in Round 2 he was hard & fair and it is up to the umps to protect these Ex AFL guy's who help make our comp so high.
Avondale ??? They beat us Round 1 and have gone off the boil. Can't believe it. Legend09. About Glenroy, people are not bagging the players, they are criticising the club for disrespecting the honor of playing a top standard A Grade by not even preparing or recruiting!

EDFL Knowall.....I think you might be right. I think separate A and B Grade threads is a great idea. The last few A Grade related posts have been about racial vilification, behind the play sniping, ex-AFL players having to bash their way through games and criticism of umpires. To top all that off...Remus's little gem here about the HONOR of playing A Grade.....

I'll stick to B Grade where we just play and talk about the footy..

Went to watch doutta stars vs marby on saturday thinking the edfl is a pretty strong comp and how it compared to my local comp (gfl). Conditions were pretty ordinary which made for a scrappy game also did the cold weather keep people away or is that a standard crowd? Would hate to play senior footy in front of such small crowds each week. Has the councils around the north and west of melbourne ever heard of santa anna couch grass? Most grounds around the geelong region have had this grass put in over the past few years and all are in brilliant nick compared to the dust bowl i saw at douttas on the wknd.

I went to Craigieburn on Saturday and witnessed a cowardly act by the Craigieburn full back, no. 31. He whacked a young kid behind play for no apparent reason except that he was the smallest bloke on the ground. No wonder Craigieburn has such a bad reputation. The only six people not to see this incident were the umpires.

I'd like to know what the EDFL has in place to stop racism b/c it really does make you feel sick to know that this sort of thing is still goes on.

The EDFL has been proactive on this matter in recent years, and although complaints of racism are rare, they have come under fire for several incidents and rough play. I know they support calls to improve education about the problem but at the end of the day the clubs have to follow through with this support. The old age that 'What is said on the playing field, stays on the playing field' is just not acceptable anymore.

The State Government produced a great video titled "Bouncing Racism out of Sport" (BROOS) which was distributed to local clubs by the EDFL via AFL Victoria last year and again this season.

Perhaps its time to pull it out and give it another airing for all to watch.

cmon phantom we all seen what happened, He was not to know that he was a young player, sometimes a young player will start their career and think they can get away with things that they might have in the juniors, He just needs to realise if you throw punches then you need to connect and unfortunatly for him he didnt connect so he was tapped on the button. what this young fella needs to do now is to either learn how to fight or dont throw punches and just play football. I think after watching his inadequite fighting ability that he should just concentrate on playing football.
ps If you want to run with the big dogs then dont
p iss like a puppy

Was there at Crazy too and saw the incident. Here's what everyone else saw. A bit of niggle between a few players followed by the young fella from the mores getting in the cragiburn players face being pretty physical. Afraid he bit off a lot more than he could chew cause he was pretty crook moments later.
Granted the player was young and got caught sweet but hopefully he will aproach the situation better next time. Seen far worse in my travels.
On another note a young spirited Strathmore led by Winter Harvey and Reynolds are far from a spent force running all over a disappointing cragiburn side.

Agree - clearly the 2nd best side in B grade?? I don't think so.

I hear you loud and clear, I did put a $50 on them last week, starting to think it was a bad idea

I still think they have enough quality, guess its just a matter of getting it together on the park

They will playt finals def with their fixture.... hoping they go alright once they get there

agreed. i wouldnt be prepared to right them off. haddy will cause a few upsets this year. they play as a team very well.noticed Pacco were also missing quite a few players. they will be better for the loss, theres no doubt this loss should kick em into gear

We had 16,17,18 year old MEN go to war and fight for this country, if a young bloke want's to start throwing cut lunch's at blokes, what do you expect the bloke to do ? ask his age? sit him on his arse and next time he might think twice! i would hate to see some of these young hero's of today go to war! we would lose for sure! their mums would have to go with them!!

The young bloke didn't throw a punch at all but he was one of a group who were wrestling but the thug from Craigieburn threw a haymaker. Is that the Craigieburn way, can't win the ball or the game then take someone out?

90% off you blokes are just a pack of whingers! Not to mention laggers!

Blokes being belted behind play or being sneakgoe'd have been and always will be a part of our great game. While i dont condone it, it is part and parcel of what happens out there. There is a lot of hero talk out there, and that can lead to ugly incidents. From what i have read on here, no one was seriously injured, so lets get on with the game!!!!!!!

Now you moralistic morons will get on here and say " but what happens when someone does get injured ", and while that is a fair argument, will we have the same argument when a player is KOéd because of a brilliant sheperd when he had eyes on the footy and never saw it coming?

It doesnt happen very often in this comp, and when it does you germs get on here and trump it up alot more than it should be. Let it go and talk about the comp and how good it is!

And as for the Holland incident, , im surprised it took Holland that long to belt the bloke. The bloke was giving it to Holland all day. Everyone has their breaking point.

Did i even say anything about people bagging the players ? and like people have said a lot of times on this thread , glenroy are getting new rooms built they cant afford to pay top dollar for average players. But who is the blame for not recruiting , the coach or the committee ?

If someone gets injured from a sheperd that is legal it matters not if they saw it coming. However getting whacked behind play is totally different. If I get KO'ed from a fair bump then I would have no problems. If I was to get a dirty low whack off the ball it is a different story all together.

not much in other issues? what game were you watching. all i hear about houcher is how fair he is. he hit a bloke half his size in the balls three times off the play. about as low as you can get.

then when abers put someone bigger on him he did nothing.

most pleasing thing was not matter how many times he hit carland in the balls he kept coming back.

I crawled out from under my rock long enough on Saturday to wander down to West Coburg’s ground as they hosted Aberfeldie for round 5 of the EDFL season, and boy was it a shock to the system. At a ground that must be located within some suburban Bermuda Triangle that rivals the Antarctic for weather conditions, and a bit like Matthew Johns, it did not fail to deliver.

But let’s be fair, everyone played in windy conditions on the weekend, however what no one else was faced with is a ground that seems to resemble an ice hockey rink. A ground that is so narrow Philippe Petit has planned his next tight-rope stunt on the western wing. But all of this seemed to fade into the background once the players had taken their position and the ball was bounced.

Now as we are all aware local footy isn’t the best place for lets say above par conversation, but it must be said on this particular day it was appalling. Most comments were bad (as usual), but some particularly coming from the home team’s supporter base were really bad. Also for future reference, as I’m sure ill get banned again for this post, anyone involved in racial comments in the EDFL and anywhere for that matter, get educated you F&$KIN REDNECKS! Safe to say at one stage the supporters made Christian Bale’s little rant seem like a potential candidate for the new sesame street theme song.

Moving along, it was tough going for both teams for the whole game, Aberfeldie shooting themselves in the foot time after time missing gettable goals, especially in the first quarter. WC prevailed with bigger bodies and clearance after clearance at the stoppages throughout the entire game. However as the game wore on there was a slightly disturbing theme that started to gain momentum in the WC game plan, and it wasn’t defensive flooding.

It seemed they were more interested in sniping players behind the play and ensuring an already grounded player stayed like that by way of two very late knees to the head. Fairly poor effort considering they were leading all day, but then again I didn’t expect much more.
