Mike Sheahan of the Herlad Sun today announced his version of the 2007 All_Australian team to be announced tonight....

he obviously had Macca in the backlines but had Tyson Edwards in for a spot on the bench....

very interseting selection considering if he had any idea he would know that Scott Thompson and Simon Goodwin has substantially better years than Tys.....

in our very own forum, Tys was good enough for an equal 6th placed finish the the POY award...

surely journalist of mike's (supposed) ilk should not be selceting players in AA teams on reputation...for mine Thommo would have been massively more deserving of a spot on that bench

After years and years of getting screwed for AA selection he should get a freebie in the actual team.

But yes, I agree, Tyson has had a pretty ordinary season by his high standards.

Sheahan is a nunce.

Edwards probably got that spot on the basis that his end of the year was pretty good AND that he is often considered the comp's most under-rated player, so Sheahan wanted to seem 'smart' by picking him.

Edwards? A liablity eh? Crikey, what does that make the rest of the side, opposition players. Granted he wasn't as good as last year, but hey, I reckon there would be very few crows players who did. The bloke managed 580 possessions, equal 5th in the AFL, same as thomson, ranked a clear 4th in the AFC website best player voting, ranked 2nd in tackles, 3rd in marks for the crows. Clearly not pulling his weight, or maybe its just the same old reason he is the most under-rated player in the AFL, most of his hard work goes unnoticed.

I agree he shouldn't be all-australian, but please, he is still in our top 3 players. I would say has atleast 3 years in him, could do a Harvey, would like to see him spend a little more time up forward could be very dangerous up there, give us that smaller forward we need and allow some of the younger blokes to have an opportunity in the middle, as they are our future.

As the old saying goes "It's not quantity, but quality that is important". If you can get the ball 1000 times and stuff up 60% of them, you aren't much good are you? Not saying that these are the percentages that Edwards (or Thommo for that matter) stuff up, but they DO stuff up. I'd rather them get the ball 500 times and have 100% effectiveness.

Let's hope in our pre-season, the focus is on basic skills and fundamental decision making!

I agree, but Edwards doesn't make these mistakes, he is one of our most reliable kicks under pressure and one of our best decision makers. Thomson does, Burton does, Knights does, Goodwin buggers it up more than Edwards.

THat's absolute b/s! Edwards has made more clangers this year, and for half of last year, than Ive ever seen him make. I don't know what game you watch, but clearly you need to take your Edwards coloured glasses off!

I agree, Edwards, IMO had an average year. I understand he racked up possessions at times, but I agree with one of the previous posters in that its quality and not quantity.

At the end of some matches this year, the commentator would summarize the top possession getters and I would see Edwards name up there with like 30 possessions and I would be totally surprised thinking I hardly saw him throughout the game. So I think he may get quite a few possessions but his possessions don't seem to have a great impact on the game.

I think we have to consider for 2008 whether Edwards is best used in the midfield (I don't think he is). I think maybe try Edwards off the bench or possibly forward pocket and through a youngster into that midfield rotation in his place (possibly Douglas).

How about Edwards (and Goodie) in the back pocket/flank and release Bunji and Stiffy forward (with some time on the ball).

I quite like that idea actually.... doubt it would happen. Craig loves having McLeod at half back giving us that drive from defense. I'm one of those people that thinks his game should played a bit further up the ground where he can actually get a few chances at goal.
