Jake has to stand up tonight and show us he's going to be a genuine Carlton forward. I rate him but he hasn't taken his chances when given them in the senior team, whether it be in the premiership season or the NAB cup. Tonight he is in a team that is crying out for half forwards that need to present and take the pressure off Fevola. I've no doubt this is why he is in the team - and this is what he needs to do.

He is a talented player, no doubt. But is he up to AFL level? I'm not convinced.

Tonight he needs to make a statement, if not he becomes a genuine trade option.

I have grave concerns re Edwards as a fwd.

A) Cannot kick for goal at all
B) Not overly strong or tall
C) Not overly quick
D) Not a great contested mark

As such I cannot see how he will ever make it.

I would much prefer to see us trying Hartlett

To think Edwards is in the side ahead of Walker makes me cringe.

From my perspective I am hoping beyound hope he can somehow step up

Firstly, Edwards is very quick (stating the obvious) Secondly, and with more relevance lets hope his kicking will improve with confidence. Thirdly, he is still 20 and 192cm/82kg. Hopefully he will fill out a little without affecting his pace.

Deserves a go, a bit similar to fisher, his talents at this level are a bit unknown. Hartlett is probably more of a CHF type, at the moment it's hard to fit them both in or know which one to play. They both have had limited oppertunities.

Any forward, no matter a young forward, is going to have a hard time with the big Fev at FF. Fev takes up huge amounts of space and leads well so always gets first ball use. Edwards has done as much as Fisher the last few games. He is going well. I want to see Harts get 5 games though.

A) My ass. He's had jitters like any new forward in the competition, but he is a very good kick for goal when he gets into his groove.
B) He's a small forward, his pase makes up for it.
C) What? He's very, very fast.
D) Then it's our midfielders job to pick him out on the lead. :thumbsu:

watch the richmond game again, you will notice in the 2nd quarter he chased and almost cought Delideo from behind. Delideo isnt the slowest AFL player either...

Edwards is lightening

cause you clearly no whats best for the game tonight not the match comittee

These threads test one's patience.

Give the kid a bit of time for F's sake.

IMO he's shown he can get his hands on the ball. A bit of time in the side will lead to a bit more confidence and more productivity.

Half the blame for Edwards not having a breakout game yet goes to the midfielders who are always banging it to Fevola anyway even when he has 3 or 4 players on him. They need to get smarter and look for other options.

The same thing happened with Kennedy when he was here, the players would just not kick it to him and that's why it'll be hard for any Carlton young forward to have an impact unless the midfielders get smarter and deliver the ball to them rather than bang to Fev every opportunity.

If we do that again tonight, we will play right into the Saints' hands who'll easily run the ball away with Fisher chopping off Fevola. That's why I believe players like Fisher, Edwards, Kreuzer, Cloke are vital if we are to win tonight and we must get the ball into their hands often!

We'd get nothing for him anyway.
I would say two things though...

1. Needs to be given some consistent game time with Carlton to prove he can cut it at AFL level.

2. Bottom aged when he was drafted back in 2005. Give him another 12 months at least.

I think he's got potential from what I've seen so far, happy for him to spend some time in the seniors over the following weeks. Ideally he would be doing more at vfl level but you have to give him a chance.

You need to watch a bit closer!!

He set shots on goal needs work, but how many games has he played??

Not quick, are you for real, watch him against the Tigers again, and watch how many people he ran down to put pressure on, i think once was against Deledio.

Not a good pack mark...how many people in the AFL are, i think Jake has fantastic hands.

How tall do you want him to be???

Final thing, he has played 4 games!!! yes 4 games and is only 20 years old and been in the system for 2 years.

His disposal average is 10, which is pretty good for 4 games, playing a 3rd forward role, his mark average is 6.2, yes 6.2, and his average on gaols is 1, although we would love more, when a team goes to Fev 85% of the time what more can we expect.

Just another point...how do you rate Kreuzer?? if you check his averages he has even lower than Jake.....so can you ever see him making it??

Then if he's shit at all 4 of those things what does he have? Hartlett and Walker have been injured of late so I think it's only fair that they're allowed to get themselves right in the VFL. He's a good mark as far as what I've seen of him but not a great kick in front of goal. He's reasonably tall (192cms), I myself am not convinced of him yet but let's give him until the end of the year to see where he's at.

I can usually overlook and laugh but.......as many haveaid Jake is very very quick.Contested mark? His long suit without any shadow of a doubt.
You kick a ball up in a big pack at Carlton and only Fisher,Fev and Waite could beat him...for now.And to suggest about any player at all after 4 games needs to dominate or be traded is ridiculous.
