So hypothetically, if I have a $200,000 player X and I trade him for a $400,000 player Y, I'm now over budget?
Since you have 50k left; yes.
Right so if everyone wants to be like the non-Essendon AFL clubs they can screw Ashton over, refuse to trade with him and he's out! He's going to get bent over at the trade table!

Last time we all cooperated well at the trade table, and there are people like fodzilla who are close to filling their quota and are still under budget who I'm sure would be happy to help out.

Why?

Just because you can't list manage and want to break the budget it ****s over people like myself who have been stingy with their money.

I've managed my budget fine. But if I want to trade Toby Greene ($450,000) for a comparable player in Mitch Duncan ($465,000), I'm suddenly over-budget. Or to use a better example, if someone decides that they really want the best small forward in the competition, and offer me say Aaron Sandilands, I can't take it because I got Breust for an absolute bargain $560,000 whereas Sandi went for $875,000.

I don't see how trade is in any way related to the price. You wouldn't swap BJ for Scully even though they both cost the same pick.

If you've managed your budget fine then what is the problem?

Its like a real AFL club, you can't just trade in for stars if they don't fit your cap. Same rules apply here.

I don't have a problem. I'm quite comfortable with my team. I just think it's ludicrous that I can't trade for someone who was overpaid for or get value out of someone I got cheap.

And I think its ludicrous that you expect to be able to break the salary cap at any stage.

No one is trading you Sandilands.... :p

So Breust is only marginally more valuable than Grundy or Daniher. What a flawed system.

Dude you scored a bargain. Arguing that the salary cap that we've used as the basis for the game should be thrown at the window come trade time is ridiculous.

I for one plan on using my cap space come trade time.

If the original owner is happy to retain a portion of players salary then this could be a way to do it.
Eg trade Sandilands (bought for $875k) over for 600k and retain 275k of his salary. More work for ethdog but is an option?
