I think you can see the priority is building a core of youth through the draft. The plan is not to spend high draft picks on 28-year-olds.

1) Got the pick that Hawthorn 'took off the table' for Merrett by trading with Carlton for pick 9.
2) Called Richmonds bluff. Richmond wanted us to overpay and trade with them to secure Robey. Rosa understood that Richmond wanted Grlj more than Robey so didn't do the trade and we got Robey anyway.
3) Correctly understood Melbourne weren't interested in Sharp but wanted Farrow so he took Farrow with the pick instead and slid Sharp past Melbournes picks to pick 9.

That’s how we ended up with Melbourne 1st this year that was pick 6. Handy work.
