So poured quite a few hours into this and now at level 115 and just got to the Mountaintop of the Giants.
Build is basically a Sword Sage. Have the Sword of Night and Flame (level 9), secondary weapons are Moonveil (level 7) and the Black Knife (level 6).
I also have the Prince of Death Staff which I use for Loretta's Greatbow and Ancient Death Rancor.
Despite the nerf the Sword of Night and Flame still deals substantial damage as long as I can get the boss concentrating on my Mimic.
Following patch 1.03 I tried to respec and go for a blood/arcane build centering on weapons like Uchigatana and Eleonora's Poleblade, however, the build didn't feel right (and I was very squishy) so I respecked back to a sorcery build.
I've invested heavily in intelligence and added additional items (like the Twin Sage Glintstone Crown) to really buff out the magic damage I can inflict.
Suffice to say this build is OP as I killed Margit, Godrick and Morgott (to name a few) on the first try. Morgott didn't even affect my HP in our fight. I also had limited issues with Starscourge Radahn and Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon.
Some of the lesser bosses, however, where there is limited room to manoeuvre (say at the end of a dungeon) I really struggled with. The Fallingstar Beast, for instance, killed me many times before I lucked out with him. Ditto with the Black Knife Assassin (although that was a lot earlier in the piece).
Still wouldn't say I enjoy the game (in the conventional sense) but it is challenging at times and I'm willing to play it to the end and see if it is more enjoyable with a subsequent play through (limiting the farming for runes).
I will say that assistance from Youtube videos is imperative.
There is virtually no hand holding and the way to proceed is not always apparent, even after what appears to be a thorough investigation of areas and characters.

I assume that's just a catapult weapon done by one of the weaker AI's (if you can run up behind it you can take the guy out).

Level 60
And have unlocked the ability to purchase Smithing Stones 3 & 4 at the round table

Also killed that big dragon (that doesn't fight back) for 80,000 runes.... I was able to level up 4 times (thanks to already being at the near 20,000 threshold per level haha).

Confronted this dude and immediately thought he was from the Dark Souls III cover :p
Where is this dragon that doesn’t fight back?

What weapon did you use? I hacked at the dragon for 5 minutes and it did hardly any damage!

Just my +12 sword. It takes forever!!!

You also need to weigh up whether its best to kill the dragon and pocket the amount of runes it drops (it won't respawn).

I think its the same location I read about where the area is full of mini dragons worth 2-3,000 runes per kill. But if you kill the bigger dragon that's stationary... the smaller ones also vanish. So you lose a potential farming area.

Almost beat the Fire Giant got him to the tiniest bit of health left and died some how that 1 HP greed can gagf.

The bosses in this are the most broken shit ever in a video game.

Majority of them have no strategy involved and just spam attacks blindly that end up killing you like how are you supposed to learn the boss patterns when each fight is different to the previous one? I’m close to just giving up on this game

So far, these are the easiest bosses in any FromSoft game I have experienced.

Went Bell bearing hunting last night, it was a success and I've now upgraded my spirit summons further.

Working out what area to tackle next, I seem to be going OK (almost level 80... but now will be hovering around that as the required level for the next area). Have read others suggest that vitality be 50 as a minimum or preferably 60 by the end phase.

Would like an update on this when you reach the end game :P

Well, I do acknowledge that the variety of builds in this one can really change things for people which I love. I am already looking forward to my second play through!

The hardest bosses for me were Sekiro. But then, you had to play it the way the game wanted you to.

Yeah truth be told I've only struggled with Margit. Only took that boss down once I leveled up.... and even then it was probably just dumb luck (changed to a different summon Ash as well).

Took out Godrick and other sub bosses down with little trouble (the first dragon in the lake, the first tree sentinel I had to attempt a few times before I became victorious). Renalla was easy.

The path of the catacombs in some areas was HARDER than the bosses of those areas!!

I'm playing without a shield, but recently upgraded to a different outfit. I look much more snazzy now!!

More reminiscent of the older games. The overworld, I think, is a lot more fun and a bit easier. Especially with the horse!

Fashion souls baby.

Beat Beast Clergyman

His 2nd form was a crock of shit so many times I got him to 1 HP and he kills me but I eventually beat him.

According to my PS5 play log I’m 83% at completing the story I should have it finished in the next few days hopefully

Would like some recommendations on which attributes to level up

your stats look way too spread out in general

Are you strength based? If so, you could respec. Pump it all into strength and vigor.

Vice versa if you are spell based etc

For instance, I am a dex/arcane but mostly arcane. I have not levelled up faith, intelligence or strenght at all.

First real dive into a soulsbourne. Struggling heaps but have to say i just want to keep playing and exploring.
Around LVL 21 Samurai. Upgraded my urigatana a few times. Having no luck against any of the mini bosses or even those stupid red summons lol.
Should I keep farming and increasing my stats, or spend runes now on slightly better armour or a stronger weapon? Been putting most stats into Vigor and Dex.
Cheers legends.

Yeah Im strength based.

Only put the required points so I can use some incarnations and then the rest I’ll put into rest into strength and Vigor like you said

nah don't buy armour or a weapon, the uchi will serve you well for quite some time and armour does shit all in this game.

go on the hunt for grave sites - heaps of runes lying around all of them.

One thing that made the game way easier for me was leveling up summons. the dogs will help heaps with bosses.

I have the rivers of blood kitana +10 that thing shreds enemies and some bosses love the blood slash
man, that is a weapon I need!

But that scales with arcane. I reckon you should find a weapon that scales with strength. I think an easy one to get is the Sword of Morne!
