I remember commenting before the start of the season that in one of EY's press conferences he seemed almost resigned to the fact that it's very hard to make a GF and that he gave of the vibe the Eagles missed out on a opportunity they may never get again. Whilst I understood he was being realistic I drew a parallel between Benny C's speech after we lost 05, where he quoted we'd be back next year and was generally inspiring.

Elliot Yeo seems to be playing in the same manner as that press conference. Looks like a shadow of the player he was at times last year. I was at the Dogs game and he was just so fumbly and I can barely remember the last time he took a contested mark.

Where is he at and what has happened to him?

Edit: Just disclosing I think he is gun and do think he'll regain form

EY is still very young and we need to be patient with him as whilst we have all seen a good sample of his best work , he has been up and down this season.

There is strong merit in giving him a sustained run in the one position as he is being thrown all over the shop this season.

I happen to think that he will, in time, become an outstanding wingman , in the Embley mould, where he can use his pace to advantage and also move into the forward line as another offensive weapon , but just as easily run back to assist the defence. Like Embley he plays taller than he is.

He is an emerging player who is yet to turn 23 ....his best is yet to come.

I don't doubt his aerial ability just his credentials as a midfielder
It was the same story last year - where should he be played? Does he need that consistency?

I flip-flop on his role so much. I think MID-FWD is my preference right now, though yesterday without Guv I could definitely see a case for down back. Let's not turn him into Staker shall we.

He's our one midfielder with aerial ability (Sheed does as well but he's out obv). Dropping him would be foolish.

I'm certainly not suggesting dropping him but I'm just curious as to why he his output and effectiveness has reduced so drastically. This time last year it seemed like he had to potential to be our best midfielder but now we the talk is can he actually play midfield.

I thought he was awful. Lacked defensive pressure, lacked second efforts, fumbled, fumbled some more.

I would drop him on that performance

So yeah - perspective....

Yeh was very poor. Got burned by Stringer in that contest where he lost his feet, though he won't be the only one to look silly coming up against Jake, but this time last year you'd have backed him to win that contest.

Looked pretty good against hawthorn in that prelim.

Hes Got the goods - he gets played all over the shop which doesnt help - his position is as a defensive mid

Yeh that's the thing, that game was quite a while ago now. Not saying he can't reproduce that form but clearly he's not playing at that standard anymore.

We always debate Priddis but I really think our drop off is more a result of Yeo, Redden and Hutchings + Sheed going backwards as opposed to Priddis having a poor year.

I think the whole midfield bar shuey has been off this season - priddis is coming back to 2015 form - the rest ...... Ew

Thing is - how many midfield minutes does yeo get - not a lot id say.

He was terrible, the effort in the last where he jogged after Bontompelli who is by no means quick, and he had an easy mark inside 50, sums him up perfectly. Will only go if its the easy option at the moment.

Yeh I agree completely. Personally I believe Priddis appears to be playing worse because last year he could share the load a lot more, but since our whole midfield as dropped off he can't distribute the ball to the greater impact players because they're not playing well.

I think Gaff has dropped of the most, still gets a lot of the pill and is tough as nails for an outside player but his foot skills have been poor for a while by his standards, and it really hurt us a few times yesterday. Having said that still love the guy.

Regarding Yeo's midfield minutes, don't think it's highly relevant just because this year in contested situations he is fumbly and losing his feet so I can understand why he wouldn't be given more minutes.

He's like Sheppard was. Inconsistent because he didn't have a set role.

Also he needs to put on some size. He seems very weak for a guy of his height and frame.

You can say that about pridd the last few games yesterday he was let down for sure - but earlier on in the year his disposal was wak - handpassing behind a running player is not the running players fault.

I bring up yeos midfield minutes when people say hes not getting enough of it - a ff/ fp isnt going to get the same touches as a mid.

I agree his form isnt demanding more minutes.

Maybe but he seemed to perform pretty well for the majority of last year being shuffled around. I understand he is not going to be consistent high possession winner but he seems to have lost his aerial impact this year and he is fumbly, none of which could have been said last year.

I don't really think Yeo is going to be a consistently high possession winner, but last year usually what he did he did well, this year not so much.

True about priddis regarding disposal but I think his overall performance drop has been more due to having to do more then he did last year because our midfield was sharing the load a lot more.

We may see him used as a midfielder more again after Simpson mentioned that the mids we have aren't doing enough. He did well there against Richmond.

Didn't he also play a lot more in the middle in that game due to Priddis being out? Coincidence...?
