its a coin toss really. I keep redden cause his a part of our future and hutch will always be depth. Also Hutch's strength is his inside work but redden still has him covered on the inside. Both are poor tho.
Disagree. What is your rational for making this statement about Redden being a part of the future and Hutch not? Redden is older than Hutchings and based on this seasons form Hutchings is the superior alternative in my opinion.

Redden was avery good player at the lions, he has had about 2 surgeries since joing us and missed basically all preseason and that a lone can be the reason for most players to struggle but redden has to also learn to play to a different game plan and to play with a different set of team mates. once fit redden will be a contributor. I agree he needs time At WAFL. Hutching on the other hand is 6 months younger but has never been a part of our best 22. even last year he was in and out for bits. His best is also average. Redden at his best sh*ts on hutchings at his best. But both are playing horrible footy.

very good game by Yeo. Did go missing a bit at times but i would say he him and shuey were our best mids today. Why doesnt simmo just chuck him into the middle often. I would rather have 20 yeo disposals than Hutchings redden( current form) and masto's 30 disposals. I would drop hutchings and play yeo in hutchings role TBH.

I'm pretty sure he does play mainly midfield, it's just that he's mostly invisible.

That's what I gathered from his heat maps that were posted the other day.

played mostly as HFF. Last two weeks his spend a lot of time in the middle. In the tigers game he dominated but only spent 53% or something in the middle.

Cant agree with that.

Hutchings improved out of sight last season, but alas he has regressed in 2016, YES I know he is by no means alone in that department.

Hutchings lacks poise and is very weak in the decision making stakes. Plus he is a momentum killer ( thats a consequence of making poor decisions) try hard he does , then again so does the man with a face like a dropped pie Chris Mayne, "trying hard" whilst admirable on its own is just not enough to cut it.

Both those two attributes unfortunately wont be areas where The Hutch is likely to improve.
Redden has certainly not hit the height that most would have expected, however he has shown glimpses of what he can bring to the team and they outshine Hutchings best by some margin.

Happy to have Hutchings as depth on the list, but as far as starting 22 goes ..........I think not.

I'm sorry but none of this answers my question, I'm not arguing that Hutchings is playing better than last season or if he's a super star. I'm arguing as of today, right now, he is in better form than Redden. Hutch completely shut down Rich from half time, what did Redden do against the worst team in the league today ? Not much.

Ps. On the topic of the thread. I like Yeo tickles me a lot, then disappoints. I think he will be a solid utility for us for a long time but will never be the premium A grade midfielder we all blew our load dreaming that he'd become.

Has hit the score board. Shut down role today on Rich. No better alternative in the 2s. He's safe.
That was good but I reckon Rich is one of the easiest players to shut down in the league. It's why he's never become close to elite.

Think he's been used a fair bit all over the shop which is probably why his form has suffered. Hasn't been allowed to settle. Also has been in and out a bit with groin injuries/soreness which may have had a bearing on his form overall.

You maybe right, and I like Hutchy, but reality is, no-one squeezes him out.

And if thats the case then thats a very sad indictment on both our list and any chances of us being a contender.
If no one is able to squeeze him out then sadly we go backwards.

Hutchings shut down role on Rich wasn't that special and if either Nelson or Cole were asked to do nothing but shut Rich down I reckon both would have been capable of doing so. Shit even McGinnity would have done that as well as Hutchings.

You may think I am harsh on Hutchings but when he has massive brain farts ,like he did today, when he played on from a mark at the fifty meter line and got run down .... I just ****en cringe and wonder what sort of awareness ( or lack there of ) does he have. The thing is he does this regularly. When he does the instinctive thing he is OK , however when he has time to think about what he does , he invariably coughs it up.

Hutchy plays well enough to get games because generally there's a few injuries here and there

I think he needs to learn ....see ball ...get ball ...get rid of ball and don't try to be a ****en hero ....ok

I'm staggered though Cripps isn't tries in the midfield......he has footy nous and good disposal ....reasonably quick and good overhead .....Why oh why

I thought they had tried Cripps in the fluctuating role of forward and midfield earlier in the year, without much success in the midfield? I stand to be corrected though as am not sure.

Elliot Yeo?

Or Mark Hutchings?

:)
Hybrid thread!

And yes he has been tried there. Stupid thought the old " oh he has some key attributes let's chuck him in there " same with Hurn .

wouldn't mind us dropping redden this week and giving Yeo his on ball spot. When yeo needs a break simmo should bringing some like duggan or nelson. Would love simmo to play him predominantly in the midfield and wing in the second half of the season and give a challenge to get around 23-25 disposals a game. You never know, he could end up taking a bit of the spot light away from shuey.

This. Our midfield looks dynamic with him in it. Hes not going to learn how to be a mid by playing hff

so after round 16 Yeo is averaging a goal a game, 18.15 disposals, 5.31 tackles, 4.38 inside 50's 2.62 clearances and 8.08 contested possessions. After spending majority of the first half of the season as a HFF/mid, Yeo seems to spending more time in the middle. statistically his goals, inside 50's and tackle numbers are very nice but i feel like he isnt getting his hand on the footy as much as he should. In the last 3 weeks he has basically been our third on baller and with the absence of NN, he is one player thats expected to lift. I have been really disappointed with his last 2 games, if it weren't for 2 really good final quarters against the bombers and North, Yeo would have had back to back bad games. Next 3 games are critical for him IMO, he needs to find some form going into our last 3 games against top 4 contenders and also the finals.

He is still finding his feet in the role and i just hope we continue to play him there as he is getting better.

I kinda wish they just recruited a natural midfielder and left Yeo on a flank, preferably half back.

He's strong overhead and we could do with his dash (a la Pittard) to set up rebounds. Sheppard, Butler and Hurn will rarely ever go for a run, but Yeo will at every opportunity, so it mixes things up a little. Wellingham is a bit in the middle but he tends to want to kick it rather than run and carry.

I liked the Yeo experiment for a while but I would rather we didn't use up an on-ball slot hoping that he'll finally click. He's better when he has more time to read the play and his overhead ability will form a strong combo with Barrass and Sheppard and allow us to move McGovern forward more.

I also think he gets way too goal hungry with the ball near the F50m arc and puts the blinkers on, usually ignoring any other options and going for the glory shot instead. Misses more often than not. He needs to realise he's no Shuey
