Engineering at Melbourne Uni

I need some information re Engineering at Melb Uni. Are there any engineering students on this board? What are your opinions of engineering and specially chemical engineering at Melbourne Uni. Does it compare with Monash and RMIT? What are the problems, hints, tips that a new student should know. Is the Chemeng dept vibrant, up-to-date and do they run an enriching course? Any informal info would be gratefully received.

I am not an Engineering student, but I do know that at Melbourne you have to choose your stream (eg. chemical, electrical, mechanical etc.) as of first semester, first year. You can change later on, but it means you may have wasted some earlier time. At monash, I am pretty sure first year is more general and gives you an idea about all the types of engineering, and then you make a decision later.

Another thing, the Eng departments at Melbourne are situated in ugly buildings with hot, uncomfortable lecture theatres inside that are in real need of refurbishment.

If I had to choose between Melbourne and Monash on what little I know, I would go for Monash.
