...and Grizzly Adams had a beard.

:thumbsu: "I can go eat some hay by the bay, what do you say?"

Also, Shaw is a muppet. I personally would be stoked beyond belief if we made it to a Semi, but the flag? I don't think so.

This was a strange article to catch on a Monday morning.

I agree with fish; we should continue to develop our list with youth. The Collywobbles topped up with Ball and Jolly to push to the final stage, and when we are within striking range, that's when we can trade for what we need. I think Winderlich through the midfield could have filled a gap this year...

I can't even think of a decent mid we could trade for without giving away some young talent.

Hopefully, we can give the WC a good run this week and put it all out there at Subi. A win over there at this stage would be a massive step in team development and would give us a healthy away record for the first time in a long time.

Probably not a flag this year though!

We played 3, 3, 2, 0, 3, 2 and 2 quarters worth - respectively - of good/winning football vs the top sides this year. (Blues rd 2, Anzac day, WCE, Hawks, Cats, Blues mk II & Pies mk II).
For 2 wins and a draw.
From 7 attempts.
Those quarters are good enough.
The rest is not. And 'the rest' is a regular enough occurrence when there's a hard running, committed opposition.
That is where we are at.

Hurley to kick 11 in the prelim me hope.

Don't you mean the GF? ;)

Anyway, who listens to what that little Collingwood &*$# thinks. He changes his mind more than a Port defender. How he won the 1990 Norm Smith still baffles me.

We are still a fair way off the top 3 this year, so no flag in 2011. Hirdy will weed out those who aren't serious at season's end, and with at least 2 spots gone on the list already (Williams, Daniher), will draft or trade for what we need. The development of the team has exceeded all expectations this year - we just need more consistency next season.

Bring on 2012.

See two of you said this. However, I'd rather we go to the draft and continue to build this list. I don't want to look for the trade until we're a top 4 team that can't go that extra step like Collingwood and the Bulldogs were up till last year.

Heppell, Melksham, Jetta and Zaka will be these players. Instead of giving away draft picks, and our future, just keep putting in the effort to build up their size and tank.

U have to realise that this years draft is going to be pretty weak, the analysts have suggested that many clubs will struggle to get quality after the 1st round, that most clubs might only take 2 draft picks, elevate a rookie (Crameri) and leave one pick for PSD.

As our first pick wont be to pick 20ish I think a trade acquistion is the best bet for added depth next year.

we'll see what happens.

We should tell Richmond to give Houli back. :(

I wouldnt pay too much attention to what Tony Shaw says, he's a ****ing idiot.

We will not win the Premiership this year, stop wanking over something which isnt there guys.

Go ahead and shoot me down for saying this, but be realistic we cant win the flag this year.

2013-2014 window imo.

We cant win the flag, to win a final would be mroe than we could have ever hoped for. Comparing to collingwood player for player you can see why we still have a long way to go. I think the front and back 6 match up fairly well, and rucks we break even. They are a class ahead in the midfield, matching up the best 7 you would have.

Swan - Stanton
Pendles - Watson
Thomas - Zaharakis
Ball - Hocking
Wellingham - Winders (when fit)
Sidebottom - Howlett
Beams - Melksham

Tried to match up similar players, and right now I reckon only hocking and winders are as good as the collingwood player. Zaharakis and Melksham still have a lot of improvement in them and if Heppel can become and elite midfielder next season then I think we can challenge the top 4. Howlett is a goer but i think is limited and probably battles with lonergan for a spot.

There is no point trading unless that person is going to really make a difference or we are getting a good deal on a player coming home, eg salopek, or a young player with improvement in them.

Post was directed at those Essendon supporters whgo think we can, IE classing Swan and Stanton at the same level and influence.

I do understand the majority of our supporters think rationally. :thumbsu:

You should go ahead and re-read the post then, pay attention to

They are a class ahead in the midfield, matching up the best 7 you would have.
in particular, no one said stanton is at the same level and influence as swan, infact, they said swan was a class ahead.

i hope he is right, and will give him due credit if he is.

but i think i will be right in saying it wont happen this year..

Saw he racked up the stats/sc points on the weekend but didn't see the game - anybody able to comment on what kind of impact he actually had?

I watched the game on TV, and Houli was the inspiration and focus of attack of The Tigers. He was sensational. He was into everything; like tackle and then get up and take part in the following play. The commentator said at one stage :"Here's that man again". I think this was the best game he's ever played.

If I remember correctly, there were 5 guys who wanted to leave us at the end of last year. Hird spoke to them and 4 of them decided to stay with us. Jimmy spoke to Houli a second time but could not convince Houli to stay; rumor was that Houli wanted some sort of indication that he would be a regular player, and Jimmy was not going to offer that to anyone. Of course, as rumors go here, there is no guarantee that any of that is correct.

But I will go on to say that whatever Jimmy decides, that's more than good enough for me; I'm 100% behind Jimmy. Except for the part when he wants to walk on Albert Park Lake - that might scare the Black Swans.
