Why would we waste Jetta and Colyer in the forward pockets? They've both shown they're damaging as mids.

I have them as HFF. Actualy i forgot Monfries.

FF - Williams - Hurley - Resting ruck

HF - Monfries - Gumbleton - Jetta/Colyer

Hurley is very capable of playing forward and could be a gun power forward. Hes very good down back aswell, but no needed next year when we have Fletcher, Hooker and Pears.

Of course we should! The point I'm trying (and outstandingly failing to do) is that the next-to-nothing pick offer for Houli- The pick that people were upset about us not taking when we didn't predict the future- Wouldn't exactly put us in a much better position that we are now, simply because at that level of the draft it's an utter crap shoot.

We've got our dice- let's roll them and see what we got instead of lamenting the fact that we could have been rolling the green dice instead of the red ones...

Looks like we agree in a roundabout way.

I am a positive thinker and think that pick 65, doesnt have to be much good to be an upgrade on Atkinson or Neagle.

Also picking players that low in the draft - means that you hope to select role players - players who may be rated between 16 and 22 in a Premiership team.

Dunno what your trying to say cuz?

I am supporting your argument that you can find decent players later in the draft. Even if you pick up role players who are rated 16-22 in a Premiership team - You have done well. We dont expect to find outright superstars.

I provided info about all rucks selected between picks 6 and 30 in the ND ( seeing that EFC has pick 8 and 31 in the ND ) to show that there are few gun rucks picked in this part of the draft - As part of the reason why we shouldn't select Gorringe. But some said my stats were irrelevant.

Anyway your stats showed that nuggets appear in the later stages of the draft.

I often read - that should be - always read that - our midfield stocks are low and need to be upgraded.

Ideally we wish to get players like Welsh, Prismall, Dyson out of the midfield and reduce the importance of players like Stanton and Winderlich.

Don't see that recruiting Gorringe is going to achieve these aims.

It all depends on where we see ourselves challenging.

I would say it would be in the vicinity of 2016, therefore it's imperative that we get our bigs sorted out now so they'll have time to develop and mature. After the compromised drafts are over, we can then take the real top-line 17 year olds.

If we think we're challenging in the next 2-3 years, then, by all means, take the midfielders. Prestia and another like Conca would be very handy in that respect.

You guys might find this interesting. Looks like he might be headed your way, if Hirdy gets him.

Pros: Great kid, excellent athlete, good footy brain.
Cons: Not the best kick. Not real big.

Cheers rasta. How tall is he? We took Colyer on the premise he could do everything a top 10 draftee midfielder could do just he was short.
189cm mid... I'm not too concerned about his height!
Perhaps Rasta was referring to how solid he is? But he ain't no Melky bar kid either

Cheers for that. But bit worried about what you said regarding his kicking? Ive heard good things about him (just from reading the boards) but yer you got me abit paranoid now... Pendlebury-like kicking skills is an absolutely crucial attribute I would have thought for our next mid..

kicking isnt terrible by any means and certainly something that he can improve upon. Good to see we are looking at him and a midfielder there. Although i wouldve thought Hirdy wouldve spent time with plenty of other players. It seem its between Atley and Gorringe who i suspect Hirdy went and saw when he went to SA. This has always been the case, but we just dont know if well go tall or small.

As has been said elsewhere, Atley's basically a Judd-like model:

Fast, evasive, wins plenty of it, unreliable kick.

If we got a player 80% of the Judd before he was Carltonised, I'd be stoked.

I would be rapt if Atley is 50% of JUDD.
