By small, I mean not tall, not short, if that makes sense.
Underlined players are going to retire soon.
# means a rookie.
I only placed people in one category, and didn't count pinch-hitting.

Looks to be a pretty good spread.

Discuss.

And I suppose drafting Rich would've made that list look promising?

Bolded players are fantastic midfield prospects, just because they're not A graders now doesn't mean they will never become A graders.

Ablett, Corey and Bartel were nobodies at Geelong, now they're the most feared combo in the land.

Be patient and have faith.

Nope, one player doesnt make it really good which is what makes it ordinary.

Of those bolded players, 4 are wingers/flankers while one is a genuine engine room player(Lonergan). Lets not forget prismall was aided at geelong by the fact that he was so far down the pecking order in terms of the oppositions focus that he ran around with no opponant. While there is some talent there its hardly chock full of class.

Luckily we'll have enough talent up forward to mask an average midfield.

Nobodies? Hardly.

Ablett, Corey, Bartel, Selwood were some of the most coveted players out of their particular drafts.

Meh...I just think about those eight straight weeks where our injury toll wasn't so bad and we were playing great football with our current midfield who were predominantly 1st-3rd year players bar a couple and it makes me think that they'll be able to hold there own if they can stay fit. Good times ahead I think...

Once you're in the AFL system you're just another playing trying to make it.

Bartel, Corey and Ablett were under-performing and even their own supporters were questioning their ability at one stage.

That argument is flawed, you're working under the assumption that those players will stay in their positions for the rest of their careers.

Also, midfields aren't compromised of the starting 6 players, wingers and flankers are becoming more and more important whereby there can be as many as 10 players rotating through the middle

You do realise that for a wide range of reasons not every 18 year old can't step into a midfield role at AFL level straight away.
