Where have you heard this? All I've heard is that he's at the club a couple of times a week to rehab his knee. And this arrangement would have started much earlier in the year when St Kilda would have been expecting to push for the finals and thus not have a draft pick high enough to take King.

Maybe they just entered into this arrangement to create a relationship with the club and give us an advantage to lure him to St Kilda in a couple of years after being drafted by an interstate team.

I certainly think we'd bring it up. I'd be saying to Port that we're going to take Rankine or if they want him they can trade 5 and 15 to us for 4 and 36.

I also think too much has been made of the fact that King has done his rehab at St Kilda. Membrey has a spot locked in as a marking forward so that leaves only 2 spots in our 22 available for Bruce, McCartin, Marshall and Battle so I don't see why we would be going after another tall to add to the list. Our midfield stocks on the other hand are seriously lacking. Rankine or Smith please.

5 and 15 is a huge win on 4 and 36.
Picks 1 - 3 are vital to saints leverage.

not sure why you appear to be upset - Max King was tipped to go at 1 before he did his knee and looks to have all the attributes to be a top player. Bizarre that the king twins should not be getting huge love from the supporters of clubs with the picks to get them

Because we already have Bruce, Membrey, McCartin, Battle and Marshall on the list who are all marking forwards. Yet we are thinking of using our first pick in the draft on another one while severely lack any semblance of class in the midfield

And this is the exact problem St Kilda have as they don't have enough draft picks to go after all the players they need to address team balance. They don't just need 1 top kid whoever it is, then need a number of them. But you can generally pick up good mids most years - top key forwards don't come along often and Max King with his attributes could easily be better than any you currently have. Although somehow I think that a pick swap may happen with most likely the crows on draft night and you will get the chance to draft 2 top mids despite any noise coming out of both clubs

Have to say if that's the class of your talls there you seriously need to go to the draft for some "real" class in that department, not one of those mentioned is close to an A grader apart from Bruce who had a poor season this year.
Hunter Clark really impressed me in his last year of TAC especially in the back half of the year when he moved into the midfield, if he doesn't turn out to be an A grade mid I'll be very, very surprised. Hard as a cat's head with a thirst for the contest.

Membrey is already a very good player and will only get better. Bruce didn't have a poor season - he was injured all year. When fit he is an athletic workhorse who kicks plenty of goals. Marshall and Battle are both very raw but have shown plenty and on form are ahead of McCartin who looks like a long shot. I'm confident that 4 of those guys will make the grade and the last two grand finals have featured Richmond who only had Riewoldt as a quality key forward and Collingwood without any established high level key forwards. Midfields win games and ours is pretty bad. Agree that Clark should be a gun but we need more than him

You must understand my reluctance about taking another key forward early in the draft having seen the likes of McCartin, Boyd, Patton, Schache, Vickery, Butcher, Gumbleton, Thorp, Dowler etc all taken with very high picks and fail to live up to expectations though. And this one is coming off an ACL and is a poor kick for goal

How did Collingwood end up matching Qaynor at 26 without loosing pick 30. Also how did Collingwood end up with pick 30 anyhow and yes compensation picks have to be used for matching bids if one comes prior.

Pick 30 is matching a bid by Gold Coast on Collingwood father son prospect, Will Kelly.

Sydney have 39 and 40 (or whatever they are post-bidding) as well as the three picks you used to match Blakey's bid, yet I only see the Blakey bid. Surely there weren't that many Academy/F/S picks that they aren't up yet?

I did a quick count and I am sure we still have around pick 43 & 44.

Some of the bids we drop one position because the bidding team gets that pick but trades later picks than what we have to match.

Some of the bids we stay even, as a pick in front of ours is used neutralising the movement (ie. lose a place for the bid, but gain a place for the match pick being before ours).

In our own example, we moved picks 26, 33 and 38. So the 39 and 40 actually gain two spots as we used two other picks that were ahead of our later 2 picks bringing them forward net 2 places as we turned three picks into one selection in the draft order.
