HE continues to beat them off with a stick -- or should that be a chunk of plaster? A broken arm and 12 weeks out of the game couldn't stop Shane Crawford being voted the sexiest man in football.

The Hawks skipper and would-be actor won 23 per cent of the 8000-plus vote in the Herald Sun Footy Fans survey.
Half the Hawthorn supporters named their boy as the ultimate AFL pin-up.

More Hawk men (23 per cent) gave him the nod than women (22 per cent).

Crawford also won hearts in the city of churches, with almost one in three Adelaide fans saying he's the one who rings their bell.

The Hawthorn hunk has led the sexy stakes since the question was first introduced in the survey six years ago.

"It's a great surprise considering I have missed so much of the season," Crawford said.

Waiting in the wings is glamour forward Chris Tarrant with 4 per cent.

The Collingwood star, 23, has seven years on Crawford (who turns 30 next Thursday), so there's a good chance he'll get to No. 1 before he retires.

Footy fan Karen Booth said Crawford's sex appeal stemmed from the fact he was simply a good bloke.

"He was standing beside me at Flemington earlier this year all suited up and I was dying to say hello but I didn't," she said. "He just seemed like the nicest person. He's gorgeous."

The poll also reveals:

WEST COAST favourite Ben Cousins leapt to an equal personal best position of fourth after a disappointing seventh last year.

TIGER funnyman Nathan Brown, who may have caught the male eye in his brief role as gay Dr Pink on comedy soap Hank Bulger MD, is sixth.

very true but that 'date' of his was a complete stranger which he admitted, almost forgot her name in the red carpet special, lol!

He found her on the weekend before the grandfinal and he had his sister ready to go with him again if he couldn't find someone the weekend before the brownlow.

So even famous footballers earning a fortune can find it hard finding a hot date? Well not that many, probably just Ling and Whitnall!

My partner's little brother knew the American chick Lingy was dating until mid-year - apparently he liked her 'cause she had no idea about football. Or about good looks, I think.
