Expectations for 09

I'm not so sure Hawthorn are the best side in the competition this year.
.

I agree that Geelong are contenders but commentators talk about last years GF like Hawthorn somehow stole it or it was an unexpected etc. I think Geelong have been at the top of the table for a while now and should start to run out of steam. Hawthorn on the other hand is quite young and Franklin could have kicked more than he did last year. Injuries aside I think he will break the 100 again.
Last year Hawthorn and Carlton were hoodoo teams for us. I think they were genuine losses and it was a sign of things to come this year. We need to finish better than those two teams to win the premiership.

We should be looking at a flag in 2009.

as much as i love our club i think its a pretty hard task this year..
i hope i am wrong and i can eat my words but we are another year off playing for the bbig one.. our kids have matured but just need ONE more season to develop and get everything right..

Personally i think a few of your are over rating carlton.

Us, geelong, hawthorn, bulldogs, north, saints will be the sides battling for the top 4

St. Kilda? Really? That means they have to be better than last year. Where are they going to get better? Actually don't answer that I don't care!! :)

St,kilda finished top 4 last year and then made the prelim.

North will probably fall but they are a better chance then carlton.

The dogs will find it harder this year, but once again better then carlton

Geelong and hawks are certainties, and we come up around st.kilda, north, Bulldogs preferably the first of the next bunch

Opti, you can't go by last year's results that much.

If there's anything that's a certainty, it's that one of the teams that missed the finals last year will make Top 4, and that one of the teams that made the Top 4 last year will miss the finals. That's happened every year since 1997, or something of the sort.

So you gotta pick one of each or your prediction is pretty damn sure to be incorrect.

Re: Expectation for 2009

We've literally rebuilt a side in 3 years without bottoming out.

We have the potential to make top 4, but we are still a young side. Inconsistency comes with youth. This year is important in the development stage as our side begins to gel together, and the youth take on more leadership roles.

But, we're still in development stage.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I see it too.

Agree with that. They have a very good midfield, but they're nowhere near as impressive at either end of the ground. Outside Hawthorn and Geelong, it looks pretty even, so I suppose Carlton could make top four. But I gotta say there are quite a few other teams that appeal more as top-four contenders.

For us, I see a Top 4 finish and a hard crack at the finals. Hawthorn will still pose a problem for us if we refuse to adapt our tactics and that's a coaching thing, not a playing thing.

I see a blinder of a season for Davis, with solid performances from Shaw, Dids, Pendles, Swan, and McCarthy. Cloke will continue to kick waywardly, but Thomas and Beams will continue to amaze.

Carlton will push into the 8, and Richmond and Essendon will continue to rise. North Melbourne will drop, as will the Saints. The Dogs will have a hit and miss year, as will the Lions and Sydney. The Cats and the Hawks will dominate but we won't be far behind.

Of course, only time will tell.
