trying to push your view and destroying others is not intrinsic to religion, but it is intrinsic to those who corrupt religion to other ends. Preserving their power structure.

In the case of christianity though, there has been a substantial proportion promoting education which has undoubtedly assisted science throug the years.

have just read The Lucifer Principle by Howard Bloom, a great analytical and meticulous examination of societal evolution ie. groups small and large from small street gangs to nation states and the startling similarities between animal group behavior and human group behavior.

human history is profuse with barbarism and cruelty and still is in large portions of the world, is there a way out of this never ending cycle of conquest and subjugation? i think if we continue to evolve, yes, particularly if our empathetic nature comes more to the fore.

highly recommended read for those interested in evolution and how society has functioned through the millennia. when we are stripped back and the trappings of technology and hubris are discarded we are indeed not that much different on a base level from our animal cousins.

comes with 73 pages of referenced notes and 40 page bibliography.

we got there. i got it now, you are not a fan of Mr Bloom.

what you call god i call the universe. i can't bring myself to believe in an omnipresent, all knowing, all seeing singular creator.

i agree we are all connected, we are all made of the same stuff. i have a sense of awe and wonder when i see nature unfold before me. i just think we will get to this state of nirvana that a lot seek in a supposed after flesh and blood realm through a completely understood process ie. evolution, albeit i wont be around to see it.

i could be wrong though, that is why i call myself an agnostic.

i'm not a pauline hanson fan and i eat meat but i do know some atheists who are fantastic people.

i would prefer the phrase "i don't know" than fence sitter as i assume you meant that in a derogatory fashion?

why are people so averse to admitting they don't know something? i don't know if there is a god/creator/deity etc. do we all have to have a black or white opinion on everything, no shades of grey LG? if you can provide evidence of the existence of a god/creator/deity i will happily admit the error of my ways and "change my mind" i suppose i would then be classed as a flip flopper? i think that is supposed to be a derogatory term as well.
