I'm not, it's just the way of all life-forms....There is an invisible life-force within & a physical manifestation without.

We, as human beings, have both a physical body & an invisible psyche....We grasp & apprehend the material world through our senses, but it is our invisible consciousness which 'makes sense' of it all....When that invisible life force departs the body, it rots, decays & dies.

Similarly, our sense of identity remains intact & steadfast (for the most-part), despite every cell in our bodies replacing themselves every 7 years or so....Our identity remains fixed, despite the fact that the entire material world around us, is in a constant state of flux, of change, movement & becoming....That's what makes us human Beings.

And no amount of science or evolution can ever explain away this ghost in the machine....Face it, life as such is a miracle, unable to be replicated or 'explained-away' by man, who is but one of it's manifestations....Science is incapable of dealing with the invisible, conscious, life-force....It is a metaphysical given & a scientific mystery & conundrum; as Dawkins is forced to admit himself.

Procrastinator raises a very valid issue. However I don't think we need the supernatural to explain consciousness, it's just an emergent phenomena from the most complex, interconnected system in the universe, our brilliant brains. The difference between 'higher' animals and humans is more of a large quantitative difference rather than a qualitative. See post about orangutans a bit earlier, they have been known to be tool users for many years. Indeed, there is a lot of recent research showing animals are cleverer than we think, a dog for example has learned more than a thousand commands, the birds cortex packs in 10-100x more neurons than a mammals brain (not surprising for a flier were weight is critical), and that enables these little bird brains to show very complex behaviours including tool use and even self recognition in mirrors (some magpies). Which suggests to me there is nothing unique about the nature of the human brain, rather it's the size and interconnectedness. And look what it can do, Einstein, Mozart, Picasso, and even Donald Trump.

While there is an awful lot to learn, and our understanding of consciousness at present really quite poor, I have a feeling this century we will finally see a science of 'consciousness', not a crap new age thing, rather a proper science.

the whole purpose of "fence sitting" LG is that you do not have confidence in a view on either side of a given argument, i do not have enough evidence or personal experience of the existence of a creator to jump off that fence. agnostic/fence sitter/somebody who doesn't know, any of those terms is fine with me when it comes to the god question.

on your assertion of "evidence of a god everywhere", would love you to go into more detail without using the god of the gaps or faith arguments. i have linked a couple of posts i made on the question a while ago in other threads.

agree with CM86 and chelseacarlton ie. the god of the gaps, the ancients didn't understand volcanos, earthquakes, the sun, the stars, lightning, death etc....................... that is why they invented lots of different gods. with the advent of modern science these previous mysteries have been solved and the last vestiges of organised religion/omnipresent, all knowing, to be worshiped creator is crumbling.

are not those ancient gods/aboriginal dream time deities just another "god of the gaps" argument that have been going on for thousands of years?

these civilizations did not have the scientific know how to explain (now explainable) natural world occurrences eg. the stars/moon, lightning/thunder, volcanos, flood, drought, earthquakes, diseases etc. so they came up with their own explanation with the available information and comprehension of the time.

one of these unexplainable events strikes a community and their response is- the gods must be angry with us, their solution- do a rain dance, human or animal sacrifice etc. this has spiraled into the greatest snowball and embellishment myth in human history that is carried on today but not in quite as dramatic a fashion as in the ancient past although there are small segments of society that murder/suicide bomb in the name of their god even today.

the human brain/mind is still very much a mystery to us, i am sure you would concede we do not know all there is to know re the brain/mind. some of your pondering here is interesting and i have pondered the same although it does not lead me to conclude that there is a singular creator.
